I thought I was enjoying my shopping experience with my younger brother until we were randomly told by a security guard that we were trespassing and that we needed leave immediately. If we decided to not cooperate he was going to call for back up. Mind you, we were just shopping, there was no explanation whatsoever. Complying, we followed the security guard in hopes of getting some answers. We were met face to face with the manager and his employee. The manager started going off about how his employee allegedly saw us opening merchandise, which is not true. There were handful of times that we would find ALREADY opened merchandise. We would put it back where it was found and continue shopping. On top of that this is MESSIEST five below I've ever been to. Most of the aisles were filled with empty boxes, bags, and merchandise without packaging EVERYWHERE. They claimed that they had also checked the security cameras but their only explanation was that they would see us holding unopened merchandise. Not that we opened it, not that we stole it, but that we were holding unopened merchandise. So I don't know exactly what they're trying to get at. With all three of the people involved their stories DO NOT ADD UP. There's unopened merchandise all over the store is what I pointed out to the manager. He told me that I should have reported it to them instead of continue to keep shopping. First of all I've been to multiple five belows. There's always unopened merchandise. Is it my job to make sure people don't steal?! Is it my job to let you know there's unopened merchandise when that's what more than half of your store is?! I could also tell that their young employees look overwhelmed with the situation and it's nothing new to them. Why is it that only my brother and I are being held accountable for other people's actions?! Not to mention the manager admitted to the security guard that there were at least 3 groups of kids NOT including my brother and I, that had stolen a plethora of stuff and they didn't decide to stop them. Even the security guard started to become frustrated with the manager because he only pointed us out of all the other chaos that was going on and that we weren't the people he should have been targeting. The security also mentioned that he wasn't given a reason for us "trespassing" and that the manager just pointed us without explanation. He grew frustrated and told the manager that trespassing is a SERIOUS thing and he cannot just pin that on just ANYONE. I just think it's crazy that employee said he saw us opening their merchandise but I vividly remember being in an aisle with my brother right next to him. We found opened merchandise, put it back and tried to find the items we wanted UNOPENED. Mind you I had a cart full of stuff that totaled to around $100. Why would it be that we would want to take ANYTHING without paying for it?! The manager was "apologetic", but claimed he didn't even "know" he didn't "see" anything?! He continued to say I'll give you guys one last chance to shop around and if we find out you guys do it again you're out. I had to stop him in his tracks because #1 I just want to check out and LEAVE after the treatment we received. #2 one more chance?! As if we did anything wrong?! I completely understand that there are certain precautions they have to take and they're just doing their jobs. I fully understand that, but the manager just kept pinning his issues on to us although we were not in the wrong. He said how they were under investigation, that corporate would be coming in a week to review their store, that $12,000 in merchandise had been stolen, that he could lose his job... blah blah I don't care. Your lack of work as a manager doesn't reflect how I am as a CUSTOMER. Especially when there were large groups of kids that they knew STOLE from them and let them go because they were so focused on my brother and I. They embarrassed us in front of all the other shoppers and honestly spoiled our fun that we were having. When we had checked out I politely asked the younger lady to ring me out herself at self check out because I didn't want to have anymore issues or be accused of anything else. She kindly rung me out and apologized for her managers behavior. Most of his employees definitely looked under the age of 18. I told her she should not have to apologize on his behalf (because a GROWN adult) and that she's doing great at her position. I feel awful for anyone who may have the same experience of my brother and I or to young employees under that pos manager who doesn't seem to know how to do his JOB. read more
