The appraiser looked at each ring, wrote up her assessment, photographed each ring, had a second appraiser review the rings and assessment to see if they agreed, and then provided an appraisal. During the entire time, I was in view of each ring and the entire process. The amount they appraised each ring for was a bit better than I expected. While on-site, they provided a hand written copy of the appraisal, with the certified copy coming in the mail within two weeks. The appraiser was quite professional, and fully explained how she come up with the appraisal amount. I had a certificate from when purchasing the rings, and the information in the IGI appraisal was similar to the certificate I received when purchasing the rings. The appraiser said that if I want an update to the appraisal in the future, via their website I can pay $25 and receive an update. I was quite happy with the entire process.

Their location may not be the easiest to find, since it is on the second floor, but it is close enough to the edge of the Diamond District that you won't have to bob and weave past all the people trying to sell or buy jewelry before getting to the building. Pro-Tip: they have a camera trained at the door to the office, just go to the door and they'll buzz you in. I stood outside for two minutes and double-checked the address before opening the door into an office that is much nicer than the hallway and staircase just outside. I was a walk-in and was helped immediately. He looked over the item and I walked out 10 minutes later with the certificate, printed and laminated on the spot. I was able to download a digital copy for my insurance company the next day using the appraisal number on their site. Painless.
