Nick at Five Cities Computer was my first choice based on his in-home service and consistently top comments. To be sure I reached him, I called AND sent an e-mail using the form on his website. Nick called back and we scheduled an appointment for the following week. He might have been available sooner, but I wasn't quite ready for the process to start. Nick arrived on time fully masked for Covid-19 and within 15 minutes I knew he was friendly, knowledgeable and talented. He even voluntarily took his shoes off due to some brief morning rain. Nick clearly explained the situation from his viewpoint, answered all my questions and offered reasonable reassurance when I wondered why certain things seemed to be happening. By the time Nick left, everything was transferred to my satisfaction and ready to go. He even took a look at our 2 year old 65 inch OLED TV with an image burnt into the screen and offered some advice. For the 2 hours spent in our house...which could have been a bit less if we weren't swapping stories...Nick only charged $80. A good deal indeed. Based on this visit with Nick, we'd have to give him 5 stars. The power source on my old Dell XPS went out. Until this occurred, I've done the maintenance and repairs on my Computers since I bought a Compaq portable in 1984. 640k Ram with a 10 Meg HD which people told me was too much and too big. So I'm very knowledgeable in the area. We have the Dell PC, Apple laptops, IPads and iPhones. Fast Forward. I spoke with 6 computer repair places in the local area regarding availability and service cost as distinct from the Power Supply. Several of the businesses I spoke with had many "depends" on conversations and two spoke down to me when I told them my assessment of the Computer issue. Prices were all over the place. I contacted Nick on a Wednesday asking that he enable connecting one of my computers to my local area network. He got back with me within the hour and arranged to meet at my house the following day. Nick arrived when he said he would and tried a variety of solutions to fix the problem; A thorny issue connecting this particular computer to my local area network. When none of them worked, he reinstalled the operating system. Though this may sound like an extreme solution I had back ups of all my data files and copies of the program files. The reinstall went smoothly allowing this recalcitrant computer to connect to the many other computers on my local area network. Nick made sure that everything was running properly before he left. Not the computer nerd I thought I would get to evaluate our in house network, diagnose a very slow15 yr old IBM desktop and optimize a Dell laptop that seemed to take forever to download MicroSft updates. He even tuned up my son's laptop before he left. He fixed some settings on the laptop to facilitate updates and explained things to me as he proceeded to allay my fears that the computers were acting weird due to malware or virus attacks, or worse. Turns out the hard drive of the desk top may be on its last leg, thus it's occasional slow responses.
