It's a small fitness center but the facility is clean and well maintained. Anytime I've had an issue with anything Tom has taken care of it right away. I've been a member there since it opened up. I did have an issue with Jodie the original owner but she was not a very nice person and took issue we me because I made her pay for some advertising she chose to do, she didn't want for it, so she denied my membership. I recently joined Five Points Fitness Novato. The gym is beautiful. The classes are great. The equipment is top notch. The owner Tom and Elena a trainer at Five Points were so nice, and showed me how to use the equipment. I had the pleasure of training with Elena. She is an incredible trainer. In just days, she intuitively picked up on a small habit I have while sitting at my desk at work that has had a significant impact in creating imbalance in my hips and has created chronic back pain for me. I cross my legs at my desk when I work. My hip imbalance causes me to lean into one side more, which over time created a really strong side of my core and glutes and a really weak side, she actually showed me in the mirror how I lean into my strong side, and asked...do you cross your legs when you work.... oh my gosh YES I DO! What an AHA moment! I have been wondering for the longest time, why one side is stronger than the other. She also introduced me the Miha Bodytec full body training system. This stimulated all the muscles in my body even the weak side, getting that brain/body connection firing, so my weaker side could actually activate. When you lean into your strong side for years in workouts, your other side relies on the strong side and kind of takes a back seat, so when its stimulated with an electrode...and activated, your brain gets the signal....okay we are going to use that side too now. Absolutely love this gym and Elena. Such a gem, so glad I found Five Points Fitness. read more

I have been a member of Five Points Fitness for a long time but thinking about leaving. I agree with the person who said there are lots of young people in the gym who are not conscious of using the equipment and occupy the equipment while using their phones. Also frequently broken equipment that can't be used, very few cycling bikes available, they often skimp on the fans and air conditioning in the summer. And its a small gym. Its about $20/month cheaper than a gym closer to my home so I have stuck with it but not sure I can much longer. Staff are terrific, however and trainers are very attentive. Clean gym and hard-working cleaning person who is around and visible. read more

Five points is a really solid gym for the area. Not huge, but not too small. I've liked all the employees I've interacted with, and people mostly leave you alone. The people who lift there are generally polite. They have a good mix of machines if that's what you like. As a word of warning, there isn't much of a powerlifting emphasis. Only one dedicated squat rack, which is a bummer, but they also have an area where you can squat on turf if you're into that. Two bench presses, one incline bench. In general they're not crazy busy, and you can normally get in pretty quickly. Also, it's not super cheap. read more

I love my trainer at the Novato gym - Megan Smith. She is mindful of my bad knees and when the last time I had a workout to get my body ready for the next. Mixes up my workouts and challenges me and I am stronger due to her. The gym is clean and does not have rows of workout machines. They offer many alternate workout classes. Its a pleasant environment to workout in. I hear Megan will have days in the other location. If you want a personal trainer - Megan Smith is the best I have trained with. read more

Very clean gym with all the necessary equipment. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They even having a charging station for your iPhone should you find yourself in need. The only drawback, which I believe to be a major one, is the excessive amount of teens that use this gym. They come in groups of 3-6 and occupy machines for excessive amounts of time. These teens need to be educated on gym etiquette. I worked out on machines and weights for 45 minutes and not once during that time could anyone access my final exercise because a group of teens were on that machine prior to my arrival and for the following 45 minutes I was there. I left without doing my final exercise. This is one of at least a dozen times over the past six months that a similar situation has occurred. The teens occupy/take over the gym after school until about 7pm so if you are looking to workout on your way home, be patient because most afternoons you will be waiting, a lot. The worst part is they are joking around so much that there is a lot of down time where the machines are not being used. It's getting to the point where I may need to look to another gym if these teens can not be educated about proper gym etiquette. This is not their private gym to hog equipment to use as their social club. Some of us are serious about our workout and the need to keep in shape. I think we can all use this gym together if we are ALL respectful of the needs of others at this public gym. read more

Joined this gym after the Novato YMCA closed a couple of months ago. This is a great backup place for exercise. Friendly staff, good equipment, many diverse classes, individual teachers who care and a convenient location off 101 near Ignacio Blvd. I'm glad I found this place like many who were also regulars at my former gym. Worst gym ever! It is a big deal when it comes on canceling your membership. If you are moving, you need to bring copies of your new address or lease in order for them to accept the cancellation. You have to give them 61 days notice or they will keep charging your credit card. I do not recommend this gym! read more

Worst gym I have ever joined and a scam to boot! After coming to terms with the ridiculously overpriced contract for the sake of supporting a local business, I soon regretted it as there was not enough equipment to avoid a waiting time, their hours make it impossible to exercise after work, and the staff refused to turn on the AC/ventilation until it was over 78 degrees and the facility saturated with BO. I cancelled my membership by speaking to a rep who assured my "contract" was closed, then discovered a few months later I was still being charged since apparently I had cancelled my "contract" but not my "account" (the latter being a device that takes your money independently of any services rendered). read more

Pros: never a wait for machines, good overhead music and a variety of TV shows for those on the treadmill or elliptical, friendly staff remembers you, free initial health session with the owner, a variety of classes included with your membership, a mobile app. Cons: paper towels to wipe off machines (reusable washable towels would be more green-friendly, though it would mean a washer and dryer would be needed), hours (5:30-10 weekdays, 7-7 weekends - not 24 hours), no pool or childcare. If I could ask for anything to be added, it would be childcare (like maybe for few hours in the evening, between 5-8, for a parent to drop their kid off for an hour). Then it would allow me to go more frequently. read more

My husband and I have been members of this gym for over a year following similar amounts of time at both the Marin YMCA and the Osher JCC. I am happy to say that we have found our new home in Healthworks Novato. Over the past year I have tried to take advantage of everything the club offers including Yoga classes offered five days a week(!!), Zumba, Pilates and, the latest addition to my workout regime, Personal Training. I am continually happy with the welcoming environment which Healthworks has provided us- we even get greeted by first name BEFORE we swipe our cards. The staff love their jobs, and it's obvious in the care and personal approach they provide their members. Healthwork's provided services are awesome- from high quality classes which run all day long and have plenty of space, to the A+ quality personal training which I have recently been using. This is not a gym full of young 20-somethings in sports bras and tight shirts. These are real people, doing real work outs, no distractions - I LOVE it. I never feel uncomfortable here. There's no pool, go to the Osher JCC for that, but also expect to pay twice the rates. The locker room has all the core necessities including showers, scales and lockers (just bring a lock). They have a large selection of cardio equipment, some that the other two gyms I've experienced did not have, and they are incredibly concerned with the cleanliness of their facility - I commonly see employees wiping down the cardio equipment. It's a local neighborhood gym and with trusting, comfortable feel. I highly suggest it. read more

LOVE this gym! First of all, it's the cleanest gym I've ever been in. I see the staff wiping down machines almost every time I'm in there. Second, the staff are super friendly. Always welcome you by name. The owners are two local guys that are actually interested in what the members need. I asked for another set of 5 pound dumbbells and they purchased them right away. They make repairs right away, equipment is kept up nicely. And they care about your fitness. I have been working on weight loss and strengthening and Mark (one of the owners) will spend time talking with me about these goals. Obviously I love the place. It has a small gym feel, people are friendly (but not TOO friendly), no loud thumping music, laid back, not the place to see or be seen (which I like) - it just feels exclusive, welcoming and personalized. Oh, and it's almost never crowded. I can count on one hand how many times I had to wait for a machine in the past year. I'm not a huge classes person but the few times I've taken them they've been good. The owners are always adding new classes and the spin options are plentiful. I just wish my scheduled allowed me to take them more often. My contract was up recently and I spent time going to other local gyms in the area. I'm always going to see what my options are and make sure I'm getting the best value. In the end, I re-upped with Healthworks, it was the best I could find for my needs. read more

Healthworks is the first gym I have ever joined, and my experience had exceeded all my expectations. The staff is very courteous and they make an effort to get to know their members. Their class offerings are plentiful and I've recently begun their Joy Cycle classes which I love. Props to instructors Glen and Mark! I love my gym now. We have worked through all previous complaints. I met with my personal trainer, Chris, today. I haven't stretched in over 90 days, Covid 19 shut downs. Every stretch/exercise that he planned for me was perfect. I may have failed one exercise of his, the "stretch for the soup can" exercise. On the right side I said, "stretch for the potato chips". he said, "No-no, maybe stretch for the carrot strips". He is right, but it is too funny. read more

I have been a member of this gym since it first opened YEARS ago. I have to say the new owners are FANTASTIC and it shows it every facet of the gym. There is a new energy, great customer service and the staff really cares - which was not my experience with the previous owners. I love this place now! Spacious, clean, great new equipment, TV's, fans, classes - the best of everything one would need. I live in the Ignacio neighborhood so it's super convenient - but it's right off the freeway, so it's convenient for most people who live in Novato or Marinwood - which is only 5 minutes away. Haven't been to this gym in a couple of years but this its pretty neat for several reasons: 1. the owners are really friendly and not pushy about buying packages or trainers or workout enhancers (ahem...24hour fitness...) 2. the location is key for anyone in the Ignacio area. Its great to not have to hop on the freeway for a workout 3. the place is super clean and offers new and updated workout machines. I have been a member of HTF in Novato since it opened. I loved the first owners, Andrew and Jody and now Michael and Mark are the new owners and really great guys. I am one of the elderly someone doesn't like at gyms and I work out just as vigorously as many younger people. I spend an hour, half cardio, half core. Then I do cardio at home on the other days. I find that the present owners are very fun and the staff is extremely helpful and cheerful. They changed out a lot of the original equipment and when I asked why they didn't change the recumbent bikes, I was told that was for the following year. About a month later, they had all new recumbents, much better ones. This gym is very clean and the housecleaning is done at night, not in the morning. I have never found the ladies room to be dirty, always good and clean and stocked with what is needed. I have taken training courses with two different trainers and both were very good. The prices are extremely fair and, in fact, my rate has never been increased in 11 years. Been looking for a gym that I didn't feel overwhelmed with. And I found it. Joined the week free trial and personal trainer. I had Mary, who asked me what I was looking for and designed a program that I could do on my own. She went through the circuit routine for me and wrote it down, so I could use it for my days that I was on my own. I actually went back the next day (which was even a surprise to me) and worked out by myself. Mary emailed me a copy of my workout. If your looking for a gym and if your looking for a great trainer Mary is the right choice. read more

I'm definitely a fan. 1) They were open memorial day.. my regular gym wasn't. 2) The gym is clean, not crowded, and well provisioned with all the cardio and equipment I needed. 3) The staff was very helpful and friendly and let me drop in and work out at no charge to get a feel for the place... I'm writing this review to warn others who are considering joining Healthworks Total Fitness about what I would classify as intentionally misleading contractual language in an effort to extract an extra payment from monthly contract members upon their cancellation. My husband and I recently relocated to the Bay area, and were looking for a health club to join for 3-months while we were in a temporary corporate housing situation. Healthworks was conveniently located and we entered into a month-to-month membership contract in mid-December 2014, which required first and last month's payment and a one month notice for cancellation. In late Jan 2015, five weeks before our intended membership cancellation date, we notified Healthworks about our intention to cancel our membership effective March 1 and were provided with the Membership Termination form. Our expectation was that we would not be billed for the month of February, as we had paid first and last months' fees in December and were providing the contractually stated one month cancellation notice. However, a front-desk resource who identified himself as the "operations manager" explained that despite our 5-weeks' cancellation notice and pre-paid last month's fees we would indeed be billed for the month of February and that our pre-paid last-months' fee would be applied to the month of March. He stated that we actually needed to provide one month's cancellation notice before our next "billing cycle" (huh?) and not our intended cancellation date. Essentially he was describing that a Healthworks Total Fitness member is required to provide at least two months' notice before an intended cancellation date, and not the one month clearly referenced in the month-to-month contract we signed. He again stated that our prepaid fees (he called it our "free" month) would be applied to the month of March, ignoring our statement that we wouldn't even be living in the area in March and thus the reason for providing cancellation notice in January. We insisted that this manager show us any language in the contract that mentioned a requirement to provide two months' notice before an intended cancellation date, or any reference to cancellation notice being connected to a "billing cycle date" (1st of each month) rather than an intended cancellation date. He was unable to point to any specific language in the contract that supported any assertion he was making, and instead continued to attempt to dismiss us by looking away while stating "it's our policy....". When we asked him to confirm our understanding of how he was claiming the cancellation policy applied to our fact pattern - that to limit our membership obligation to three months, we needed to cancel in the same month we joined - he replied "yes, that's our policy". I can assure prospective members, as supported by other negative posts found on Yelp, that the Healthworks Total Fitness monthly contract cancellation clause's one month notice period does not accurately advise customers of the proper amount of time needed for a customer to cancel or to receive the benefit of the last month's pre-paid dues. It is a misleading policy. Members would not understand this two month requirement from reading the monthly contract, so they end up being forced to pay an extra month of dues for services they do not want or are not able to use. read more

This gym is run very poorly. The membership system is a total pain, I was charged 3 separate times for 1 week pass before fully joining. My family had to convince the owner to give a family membership to us (I was under the impression that family memberships were very standard at gyms). The equipment is alright, not bad not great, very average. The staff is very friendly except for the owner, who seems to be very short with customers who have issues. They lack some equipment that would be a great addition to the gym such as kettle bells and an olympic lifting station. Overall, this gym gets the job done, but not very well. If you are serious about olympic and professional lifting, this is not the place for you. read more
