I love Five Points. I love to park and check out different businesses in the area. Most of them open at 10am or 11am. The dispensaries opens at 9 am, not sure what time the coffee shop opens. One reason for minus one star is sadly the homeless people that live and sleep in the area. Second reason is the Landlords raising the rent so high, they've lost about the 1/4 of tenants. How sad and tragic. The biggest loss is Bogers Shoes and Mixed Fillings Pie Shop. Pros:cars let pedestrians cross at the crosswalk. Great stores on the strip. Five Points is a cool collection of restaurants, bars, and shops and a popular spot to gather for those in the Jacksonville, Florida area. The name comes from it is where five roads intersect. Shady business didn't have the correct permits to open on time for their first concerts. had to reschedule all of their shows to new venues and dates, which screwed over paying customers. when they rightfully got bad reviews, FIVE decided to flood their reviews with fake 5 star reviews from obvious non-local actors who never attended a show there. They got caught and called out, so google suspended their reviews. Suspiciously, not the reviews are back but all of the real bad reviews have been nuked. This business is obviously super shady and unethical for pulling these hijinks in less than a year of operation. I would not spend my money at this unethical business and will be supporting a real, locally-owned venue instead. read more

I love Five Points, it's one of the reasons why my family chose to move to Riverside many years ago. Granted, it looked a wee bit different back then, not as fancy and polished (ahem, "gentrified"...) as it does now, but we still loved it. It harkens back to the time of Main Streets and Downtowns, not of big cities, but of tiny little towns in the heartland of America. This area is made for walking. There are many types of restaurants, from coffee shops to casual eateries to fancy restaurants to bars. Burgers, sandwiches, Asian food (of almost every kind imaginable), seafood, "German" type food, etc., can be found here. Many stores are here as well from fancy, kitschy dress shops to antique stores, a shoe store, a vape place, a dog boutique/salon/day care, gift shops, etc. My favorite movie theatre in the entire world is here as well. There are two very large, pretty churches in the corner by the park and one has an elementary school, so be aware of that during the school year. Best way to visit is to come early and find a parking space. (Watch where though, because some are marked private for businesses and will tow and others have time limits.) Also, if you end up parking on the fringes of Five Points, please be aware of and try not to block driveways or alleys. A tip on navigating the traffic light at the intersection of Park, Margaret, & Lomax Streets (the one that gives Five Points it's moniker), it is NOT a traffic circle, so please do not treat it as such. Park Street has a blinking yellow caution and the right of way through. Margaret and Lomax Streets have a red light and have to yield to traffic on Park Street. Always, keep to the right of the light as the sign says. read more

We're visiting from NJ and I read alot of good things about Five Points. Well...we got to the actual 'five' points in the road and the one thing that stood out was the two old homeless men snacking on a bench right at the intersection. The big feel I got from this area was...were is the 'pride' and 'ownership' with the city and the people that live here?!? Homelessness, filth, empty storefronts; this was a huge disappointment. A few gems stood out, like Hawkers Asian which the food was fantastic, but overall, I would literally recommend staying away from this part of the city. read more

I have always loved 5 Points and I always will. It holds a very special place in my heart. When I moved to Jacksonville 17 years ago (wow, it really doesn't seem like it's been that long ago), I lived my first 2 years here in Riverside. I was in my early 20s and 5 Points was the place we hung out all the time. Back then we'd lounge on the couches in the smoke shop for hours, we'd hit Club 5 every Saturday night for Saturday Night Seduction, me and my girlfriends would go hit all the cool shops for clothes and accessories. I even had my tongue pierced at Caribbean Connection in 5 Points when it was still around (had it done on a whim too... and yes, it's still pieced, I just never put a stud in it anymore... although I could if I wanted to hehe). It just seemed like we were there almost every day! I may not visit 5 Points as much as I did back in my younger days, but I still love it. Many of the old shops I use to hang out in are gone now, but newer (and just as cool) shops have entered the old spaces. You'll still find really cool and eclectic shops here with great clothes, shoes, and jewelry. The old smoke shop is gone, but now there's New Leaf Vapor Company cause we're all trying to quite that nasty habit of smoking and switch to vaping. I can't say I'm doing that great of a job at it, but hey, I'm trying! You can take in a movie now at Sun Ray Cinema (which use to be Club 5), and now we have Hawkers (the hippest, coolest, most awesome new restaurant in all of Jax). Parking here most of the time is a real bitch. It can definitely be hard to find a place. But be patient and you will. Also, this is a place for walking around and taking it all in. Walking from shop to shop. So it's really no big deal if you have to park a couple of blocks away. read more

Five Points is one of my favorite parts of Jacksonville! I probably use a bigger view of the area than I should, but for me, 5 Points starts at RAM and ends at Memorial Park - and there's lots of Fun in between. I know that's probably more Riverside than 5 Points, but if I go to either, I'm gonna end up in 5 Points. Actually - if I go anywhere near downtown, I'm gonna end up in 5 Points! Why? Options! There is such a variety of restaurants, pubs, wine bars, coffee shops, and sweet shops - there's something to keep most anybody happy! And then there's the Cummer Museum and the Sun Ray Theatre when you're feeling a little artsy! There's also several festivals that take over Park Street: Springfest, Block Party, Oktoberfest. There have been lots of changes recently - some of the older shops and restaurants have moved on. That's disappointing - but the area still has a lot of character. I remember well over ten years ago when Five Points attracted more of the bohemian, grunge, goth punk and unconventional artistic-type before the beginning of its inevitable gentrification. Now, as Mark B. had stated in his review, "5-Points is one of the most happening areas in Jax" if not THE most happening area. For those who don't know, "Five Points is a small commercial district centered on and around the five-way intersection between Park, Lomax, and Margaret Streets. The area was originally residential, but transitioned to commercial uses after World War I and several retail buildings were constructed." Wiki Today, this area attracts people from all over the country for some of the best restaurants, eclectic businesses, independent shops and neighborhood "walkability" rating. Overall, if you're just visiting from out of state, live in the suburbs of Jacksonville or plan on moving here, 5-Points is a great little day trip that may change how you feel about the South. A diverse dining experience can be found- corner to corner. Adjacent to a large park- reminds you that you are downtown in a big city. It is full of great, eclectic boutiques, antique stores, unique restaurants, a wide range of bars,an independent movie theater, independent grocery store [and massive chain next door], beautiful parks on either side, salons, cafe's... it has just about anything you could ever need and I wouldn't be surprised if some of its residents never leave the area. I, myself, live in the San Marco neighborhood, a five minute jaunt across the river, and I TRY never to leave the Riverside-Downtown-San Marco trifecta. Only occasionally do my efforts fail. The first Friday of every month is 5 Points' monthly First Friday Art Walk. It is a great time to check out some [fantastic] local art, hit up some of the neighborhood bars, and have a fun night out. I love the vibe of 5 points. It's like going to a mini version of hippie land Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco but with less bums around. It's a very walker-friendly area. I like the trendy funky shops and the cute murals and the underground hip hop venue Lomax Lounge where Dillon performs. Some of my favorite eateries are Cozy Tea, Al's Pizza, Mossfire Grill and Sake House. I also like the New Broadway Square that recently opened. Five Points is Jacksonville's very cool, hip, bohemian neighborhood located just a few blocks away from the St. John's River, in one of the cultural centers of the city. The Five Points area is the intersection of five roads through that part of town, and to celebrate this engineering marvel, the city invited all of the cool kids to throw a big block party and open up their businesses on the nearby streets. As a result you've got all sorts of eclectic clothing and antique shops, funky artsy stores, surrealistic new age places, and a bunch of very cool restaurants and bars sitting side-by-side. On a recent trip to Jacksonville, I met my Yelp buddy Daisy D. in Five Points for some lunch, and a Saturday afternoon of unstructured bumming around. (In other words, "Steve got to play tourist while Daisy showed off her city".) I followed my trusty Yelp driving directions to the Riverside neighborhood, and found a place to park out on the street near the Midnight Sun antiques store. We were scheduled to meet for lunch at the Corner Taco, so I took advantage of the sunny day to wander up and down the streets, and poking my head into the various businesses. There's a real diverse mix of people who frequent Five Points, and you're just as likely to see a group of college students sitting at a table next to a group of bikers, and across from some Moms with their young kids. Everyone seems to flock to this neighborhood, so it's a great place for people watching and shopping. Let's not forget the food and drink options in Five Points. Some of Jacksonville's best-known street-side restaurants are in this neighborhood, and you truly have your choice of cuisines within just a few blocks. This place has changed over the years with many businesses having come and gone, but it's still a great place to go. First off 5 points is one of the most happening areas in Jax. You have a landmark in the light in the center. Then pure wow all around it. If you go south you have Black Sheep. You go east you have Tapa That. Around the former you have a string of goodness. From one of my favorite in Pizza Italian to the Sun Ray Cinema. If you continue north you come up to Hawkers and then you turn the corner for the newest with Corner Taco. You have fun things to do and see all over 5 points. So no matter which way you go there something to do or see or shop in the Historic 5 Points. read more

Five points has weathered the good times and the bad. Through it all, this area clung to it's quirkiness, making no apologies about marching to a different drummer. I worry in this Boom time that it'll lose its individuality and give way to chain stores and restaurants rather than staying local but I have faith. Gotta have faith. Here, in Five Points, I always have fun as well. A day spent completely in the Five Points area might look like this: Grab a coffee at BREW then walk over Tapa That to check out their breakfast menu now that they're open for breakfast.. Walk over to the park to feed the ducks in the pond (sometimes there's a box of old bread left there by a bakery). Drop off your clothes that needed altering then wander about the antique shops, buy super cool threads from Edge City, maybe some beads at the bead store or some hippie stuff at Midnight Sun. Need some new shoes or wanna try out one of those e cigs? You can get that here. Get a hair cut from Hawthorne or around the corner at Hair Peace. Grab some lunch at Cozy Tea, or sushi at Sake House. Get dessert from the bakery and grab a dog treat for your best friend at Bark and a six pack of beer or a bottle of wine for yourself from Cask. Drop by Troops of Time and splurge on a gift for your favorite history nerd nephew. Catch a movie at Sunray and get out just in time for Happy Hour at Hawkers or Derby House. Either grab a bite to eat there or head over to Mossfire Grill or M Shack. Grab some groceries or vitamins from Grassroots and then meet up some friends at Birdies especially if they have a band playing. Still hungry cause it's after 10? There's still restaurants open, grab a bite and tomorrow commit yourself to jogging or head to the Y for a workout because the calorie content of spending a day in Five Points has exceeded the daily recommended maximum for an average adult. But hey, at least it was a nice way to spend the day in this little area. Now maybe you could expand your experience a couple blocks out and head to the Cummer Museum or Memorial park. read more
