Hello, Reader. While I have not got ok from my Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), and that battle continues, the one person who helped me learn what my problem was, is Courtney. I have been to a host of Doctors, and Nutritionists and all of them played a role in my depleted bank balance and my health. In a nutshell, I started working with Courtney in February 2014, mostly for muscle pain and in the process discovered how my thyroid and gut health all were out of balance. She helped me regain my health, feel more energetic and as a nice side bonus lose over 20 lbs. I highly recommend her as a functional medicine practitioner! And for those who are interested, here's the longer version of my story: First I started a detox by myself to see whether I even have the discipline to stay away from what a friend had told me were the big 5 (gluten, dairy, sugar, alcohol, caffeine). Making this transition by myself was crucial for me to justify paying out of pocket for a nutritionist. I highly recommend this to anybody because the discipline is something that nobody else can help you with than yourself. While I started to shift my diet, I interviewed a few nutritionists before deciding to work with Courtney. I went with her because she was listening to me (not pushing supplements like one of the other nutritionists did), and also because she made sure to include my husband in the very first visit. In our first phone consultation she told me "your husband must understand that certain foods might be killing you." That resonated. I needed someone with a strong point of view, someone who doesn't shy away from uncomfortable truths and who has a pragmatic approach. In the first visit, she showed me my options: with and without supplements, and with and without tests. While at that point I was still quite confused by the functional medicine lingo, the 4 week detox with supplements seemed like a nicely compact program to start off with. In addition, I've been staying away from gluten, corn, soy, eggs, yeast and dairy. Afterwards, she helped me fine tune with different supplements, and only then, when things should have improved but didn't, did we go for testing. I was first introduced to Courtney Jonson through a coworker. I am very interested in alternative medicine for prevention and wellness, so I was eager to attend the presentation she gave in my office. The information was clearly presented and very informative, she kept everything simple and explained thoroughly. What I truly appreciated was the passion and devotion Courtney has to her work.
