The vibe here is great--funky, old decor with an industrial-meets-cozy feel, and the music selection is always a hit (not too loud, just vibey). It's a fantastic spot for working or just chilling. I ordered the cortado, and it was exceptional. The baristas definitely have latte art skills, and my drink was prepared beautifully and with care.The staff are super kind, which really adds to the experience. Parking is also a breeze with the adjacent free surface lot which is a plus in Minneapolis. If not, I'll do another Walking in you're greeted with all the aromas of coffee, spice, and bakery - all the wonderful aromas that portend to a wonderful experience. The bakery window has a great assortment of sweet and savory items. The ham and cheese croissant was awesome BTW. On the coffee drink side: that really apply some wonderful creativity to their drink craft. This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the cities. The people working are always friendly, there's a nice tin/ambience when I'm working or hanging out that's never too loud, and on the weekends it's so nice they have pastries from La Marguerite. Once they forgot my coffee in the line (it happens, no big deal) and they gave me a make up coin for a free drink next time. The matcha is a bit expensive at over $7 and not the best I've had, the matcha itself is a little bit bitter. I usually prefer unsweetened matcha too but I would recommend getting some sweetener to cover up the bit of bitter taste. It gets pretty loud inside towards the afternoon and busy as well, but if you're able to come early and get a spot with a charger it's good. read more

Really nice Five Watt! For several years I lived in uptown Minneapolis, directly between the Lyndale Five Watt and Nicollet Five Watt, but recently moved to Columbia Heights. So now this is the closest location, and as you might expect because of the neighborhood there's lots of college aged people on laptops. Yet, there's a familiar ambience, and the comfort of my usual favorite drinks. Not sure what I'd do without Five Watt. They've become the most enjoyable part of my writing routine as an author. This location, like the others, has an abundance of outlets for charging, and consistently good music. read more

The cool thing about Five Watt is each location has their own unique specialty drinks that are different for each location! At the Hennepin Ave one I tried their all day/all night iced and it was delicious. It was one of their sweeter drinks which I prefer. I usually ask baristas what the sweeter drinks are before ordering, and the barista at five watt mentioned that most of their drinks could be adjusted for sweetness based on personal preference. Another great perk of this location is the large free parking lot next to it. Totally eliminates the stress of street parking in downtown! I've been wanting to try five watt for a while now and I'm glad I finally got to. There's lots of seating and free Wi-Fi as well to get work done. #9 in my TWIN CITIES COFFEE SHOP SERIES Cute spot that feels super cozy! Definitely one of the more pricey coffee shops in the cities. Their 8oz drinks are around $5.25 and their 16oz drinks are ~$7. For the size, cost, and taste I would rather go elsewhere. But nonetheless, their coffee was still good. I got the Kingfield, which is one of their more popular lattes and it was a good mix of salty and sweet. The 3/5 stars is more for the ranking. Definitely one of the lower places on my list but by no means is it super bad. The drinks were pretty good, but overall nothing spectacular/ I would come back for. The space was very cozy because of the big window, but doesn't have much room for big parties to study or big tables in general if you want to spread your work out. The service was also just okay, didn't give me the cool coffee shop vibes that other places give me. read more

I hung out for a few hours trying to work, but the seating is awful for long periods of time (tbf I am fairly tall, so maybe I just didn't fit). The 3 stars is for good tasting coffee, but incredibly expensive. Good vibes and atmosphere, with a welcoming, bright and warm area. I COULD NOT LOVE THIS PLACE MORE!!! My most favorite iced vanilla latte with oat milk - uh, anywhere. Staff is always friendly. Smart about COVID. Homemade syrups. Every time I am in the area (since I am back and forth between IA and MN) this is my first and last stop. My mom & I sometimes pick up 2 drinks each since we drive from Minnetonka for these drinks. Another fav - the CHAIDER. Chai, Apple Cider, Vanilla, but better than what you can make at home (I've tried). Only 75 cents more between the 2 sizes so uhhhh... go big or go home!!! Seriously, I always find myself chatting to the kind staff as they make my drinks and as they reply so honestly to my silly questions about other fun drinks on their menus. Worth the slightly higher prices than other places and yes, I've tried other Five Watt locations but this is ALWAYS the shop that I have the most enjoyable visit to. Love this place. Ugh. read more

Visiting this place again this morning, I am reminded how pleasant an experience it is to come in here and receive such warm and friendly service. I asked whether they had a decaf cold brew, and they didn't. However, they offered me a decaf Americano over ice. Yup, that did the trick for me! A freshly pulled decaf espresso mixed with some water and poured over ice. It was an aromatic, smooth and flavorful coffee. I added a little simple syrup and some half & half. I sipped my coffee over a couple hours while sitting on the bench at a single table and reading a book I'd picked up at a Little Free Library in the area earlier while I was walking in the area, pausing from time to time to look out the window and see the clouds moving by and give my eyeballs a rest. read more

Food - I'd say not so good. But at least they have the option 3.Comfort They have limited amounts of tables and it is always packed. I wish they had outlets in each seat. Tables are also relatively small, so if you need a large book and laptop etc open, you may wanna sit on the high tables along the wall/window. Bathrooms are far, in the general building. Dilemma when you are working alone and don't wanna pack up all your stuff and knowing how far the bathroom is and how long you need to leave your stuff unattended. 4. Parking - free Now this is a big deal. You can park short term in the street parking or the lot. read more

I first visited Five Watt on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty packed! At first there was only one cashier and the line was taking a while. Realizing this, they opened another register which was a great customer service move. Since it was so packed, the seating was real slim pickings but I managed to get a bar seat then moved to a table after about half an hour. I ordered a fancy hot dog - once I saw that on the menu I couldn't say no! It was about $7 which is steep for a hot dog especially this one. I waited about 45 minutes for my food. While I was ordering I wasn't informed that it was going to take this long - which was a bad customer service move. I was distracted by the work I was doing on my laptop so I didn't really notice the large amount of time that passed but I was hungry enough to notice that it was a long time. When my food arrived I was also pretty disappointed by the portion of the food. While visually appealing, it wasn't a substantial amount of food worth $7 and 45 minutes. After leaving the cafe I noticed there was a food truck in the parking lot outside. I would recommend checking the parking lot for a food truck if you're hesitant on committing to the food. Overall I really do like the vibe of Five Watt and plan to give it another chance but as a fancy hot dog enthusiast I wasn't too impressed by this visit. read more

I truly think the best iced coffee in Minneapolis is an iced All Day, All Night with oat milk. It's like a butterscotch latte with a hint of sea salt and it's the perfect balance of all flavors. They always have a rotating coffee special that isn't something you could get at another coffee shop - always something super unique. This coffee shop has quite a few specialty drink options, along with your normal coffee shop menu items (ex: latte, espresso, etc.). I had their small latte and was quite pleased with the flavor. It wasn't as bitter as some of the other coffee shop's lattes that I have tasted. My latte was served in a paper cup, as they ran out of their larger ceramic cups. I was okay with this though as the barista checked with me prior to making my drink, to make sure that I was okay with this option. There are at least 15 small tables to choose from as well as bar seating. The only downside to this location and it's seating is that some tables face the windows, which do not have blinds. This became an issue midday as the sun was going straight into your eyes. Side note: there is a self service water bar right next to the front entrance. Also saw a flyer for live music on Friday nights during the summer. read more

One of the most unique coffee shops I have been to in a while! I've been here three times this week just so I could try more of their unique creations. Many of their specialty drinks are crafted with housemade syrups and bitters. Who knew bitters worked so well in a latte? A little on the pricier side, but worth supporting the local business and baristas whose souls you can tell make this place come alive every morning. I've tried The Kingfield, Pollinator, and Busy Beaver. Each was was very unique and absolutely delicious. I also got a 12oz bag of beans to go. They have seating indoors, tables outside, and a bar that faces Nicollet. The best part? All leftover bakery items are $2 after 3pm. read more

A great coffee shop in the NE area - cozier vibes than dogwood, drinks are better, but more expensive. Also, the tables are pretty small and close together, so you can fit a laptop but not much else. I did only try the pumpkin spice latte and it was really good, though...it was somehow almost $8 for a regular sized cup which is pretty outrageous. The other fancy creations were really interesting (almost like a cocktail) and will probably still come back to try them at some point. I didn't order any of the pastries, but I tried some of my friend's blueberry muffin which was average good. I'm not sure if they have real food, didn't see any on the menu but also didn't inquire about it. Located next to headflyer brewing which is convenient for a post coffee/studying beer if that's a thing. Also has a parking lot adjacent, which is nice. Pretty crowded on a sunday morning. I recently moved really near to Hennepin Ave. and I was excited to see a coffee shop close to my place. I had hopes that Five Watt would be a good place to bring my laptop and wire in for an hour or so of work. It isn't really the place to try and get work done, more of a social coffee shop. The atmosphere is a dull roar constantly. PERFECT for chatting it up on a coffee date, not for grinding out some work. They do have outlets though. I walked over on a Saturday morning, and was pleasantly surprised at how busy it was. The menu is great, the have quite a few new drinks that I hadn't ever heard of. The Kingsfield is great. High recommendations on dat drink. Do try dat. In the words of Marshawn Lynch -- "I mean, I know I'm gon' get got...but I'm gon' get mine more than I get got, doe" I don't know what that means.
