I recently moved really near to Hennepin Ave. and I was excited to see a coffee shop close to my place. I had hopes that Five Watt would be a good place to bring my laptop and wire in for an hour or so of work. It isn't really the place to try and get work done, more of a social coffee shop. The atmosphere is a dull roar constantly. PERFECT for chatting it up on a coffee date, not for grinding out some work. They do have outlets though. I walked over on a Saturday morning, and was pleasantly surprised at how busy it was. The menu is great, the have quite a few new drinks that I hadn't ever heard of. The Kingsfield is great. High recommendations on dat drink. Do try dat. In the words of Marshawn Lynch -- "I mean, I know I'm gon' get got...but I'm gon' get mine more than I get got, doe" I don't know what that means. I ordered a Hokai something, it tasted just like sweet milk. Can't taste the matcha or basil at all, the matcha doesn't give deep green color so it's Very low quality matcha. Very disappointed. read more

The main thing about five watt is that it has the nicest vibes. Such a wonderful place to spend a cloudy Saturday morning. I'm in bliss, and I'm now ready to take on my Minneapolis day. The coffee was good. The people were friendly. Prices were in line with other coffee houses. The pastry was just right. They don't have enough power receptacles distributed in the seating to use. (Nobody has enough power though.) They have lots of nice seating and a deck. read more

I really like Five Watt coffee. It is one of the better places in the Twin Cities area to get very unique drinks. They also have great bakery items because they get them from Patisserie 46. That being said, they are pricy. I think that was the part that impacted my rating the most. The drinks are fancy and unique so be prepared when coming to pay more. On my last trip, I got an All Day All Night which was good. Initially I wasn't sure I liked the salty ness of it but it grew on me. My boyfriend got their Mexican malted mocha which was very good. I would probably get this next time I come here. We decided to get a chocolate croissant too. The pastry was absolutely delicious. Parking here is very easy, the complex it is in has its own parking lot which is very nice. Overall, cool unique place for coffee drinks, but pricy. Been coming here for years, usually multiple days per week to work. This is mainly because I can bring my dog here. Today when I walked in with my dog (before even ordering) they asked if I was planning on staying ... I said yes. They said dogs aren't allowed, and that has always been their policy. I do like the latest trend in wide open airy spaces and huge windows. There's plenty of seating at FW but even on a weekday morning most seats were taken. Mostly singles and some small groups meeting. There are enough Apple logos in site to make you think you are in the Apple Store. At any rate, it is trendy and mostly hipster but the baristas work together and are friendly and even welcomed me for trying their place for the first time. The FW on Nicollet is like that as well. This is another welcome addition to the neighborhood as I've lost count as to how many coffee shops are in lower N.E. but they all seem to be doing well and with this busy location on E. Hennepin and next to a brewery and some other small businesses I'm sure they'll be around for quite awhile. The large parking lot has many reserved signs and there were a few vehicles scouting a rare spot. If full you would have to try a side street and try to cross E. Hennepin where nobody would ever stop for a pedestrian. The shop faces the East away from the street. Oh I suppose I should mention the brew. Hearty and roasty just like the other location and true to their word the barista said it's the same great quality. read more

I love Five Watt, and their location in NE is one of my favorites. I usually order a Vanilla Latte and it's incredible, but decided to try the Chai. It wasn't the best chai I've had. The chai seem less spiced and rich than I would have preferred. Still decent tho. The environment in the shop did not disappoint. There are so many seating options. I was a huge fan of the original location - didn't think it could get much better than that, but they did it! The space is huge and open, and the baristas are super friendly and personable. They also really know what they're doing when it comes to making some unique and delicious drinks. Also, where else can you order a hot dog at 9:30 am? The turkey pesto sandwich was also delicious and the food is made fresh to order. Swing by next door to grab a beer at Headflyer while you're in the area. Parking is easy and free. I got the Kingfield espresso. It looked pretty with a slight sea salt taste, no smokey flavor at all. The espresso itself was smooth and sweet but tasted very watery. I was expecting a more full bodied espresso. The location is a bit hard to find. Look for the "Headflyer" signs from the nextdoor business. The interior is very open with an industrial feel. The customer service was very friendly and quick. There was also a food truck outside for more food options. I enjoyed the other location more and had a better espresso there. read more

I'm only in the Twin Cities for a few months, so every week or so I like to explore some local coffee shops to see whats good. I came across Five Watt and was really intrigued by their flavor combinations, so I decided to stop in to this location (There are 3 in the Twin Cities). I can't describe to you how great of a decision that was. I got a 10oz hot Kingfield from the exceptionally pleasant barista, and oh my gosh I really believe that it was the best cup of coffee I've ever had. The flavors meshed so well together, the latte art was beautiful, and everything about it was just so great. The theming of the shop is cohesive and cozy, and to me, that's super important for a good coffee shop. Highly highly recommend Five Watt. My only regret is that I didn't catch the barista's name. A bit on the expensive side (as far as coffee goes), but not much more than other shops of the same nature, and SO worth it. Definitely stop in and try some for yourself! read more

This will always be my favorite coffee shop. I'm a coffee addict and come here as often as I can. It just doesn't compare to other MPLS coffee shops. It's a great location, cute aesthetic, and the coffee recipes are top notch. Never would have thought to put butterscotch in coffee, but it was so good. At this point I think I've tried everything on the menu, it's all fantastic. And don't get me started on the employees. They are all the sweetest people and all deserve a raise. I've been in a couple times when it was busy and there would only be one employee working- they were fast and friendly every time. I've brought a couple friends here too and they all love it as much as I do. If you go, get an atomic blondie with oat milk. You can never go wrong with oat milk. I really liked this place (visited twice on one day) and found the entire experience (staff, drinks, and cleanliness) to be top notch. I'd visit weekly if I lived in the area. Location: E Hennepin: close enough to UMN campus, but surprise plenty of parking! Not too busy on weekday mornings but come evening and weekends this place is pretty packed. Drinks: super uniquely crafted coffee and tea "cocktails" and they do rotate drinks so their menu doesn't bore you (but if if you like the boring they have basics as well and will take simple requests for things not on the menu) Plus a l c o h o l Food: I mean don't get me wrong, it's definitely good. But some things are a bit overpriced for what you get in my opinion. If you're desperate it's worth it, but I would say come for the coffee not the food. Bonus shoutout: So. Many. Outlets. Unique drinks, good vibes inside and out, and some delicious pastries to boot. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but when I do have coffee outside my home, it's usually on the fancier side. 5Watt hits all the marks for service, availability, location, and extras. Their cinnamon rolls and croissants are melt in your mouth amazing, and their location is close enough to the river to grab a drink after a run or before a walk. My only negative is the price, you pay extra for that fancy name, though in this case it may worth it... They also sell coffee beans in the front of the store. read more

Easily my favorite coffee shop in town. The people who who work there make the place. They really do. Not to mention the drinks are great and the FOOD is impressive for a small coffee shop. The paninis are especially delicious and I am impressed by the greens as they are tasty and always fresh. They also have amazing croissants and other baked goodies but you'll have to get there earlier in the day if you want some. This place hits all the stops at all hours of the day. I stop by for a coffee to take-away or stop and sit to work a bit or read a book. They offer quality coffee and perfect lunch food when you just want to work for a few more hours. There's plugins everywhere and plenty of spots to sit. I highly recommend getting the Greek salad with garbanzos. Super filling. A great spot for a business meeting to if you get there at the right time if you need more than a table for two. Coffee was luke warm, almost cold, immediately. Server made me feel like an idiot for not knowing the exact name of what I wanted and she was actually rude. I asked for a latte and she said I wanted an espresso with milk. I'm just thinking I want a coffee with milk. Next, she asked if I wanted it t to go, and I said I wanted it in "that paper cup" because I did not like the coffee mugs they had, didn't mention that part, but she seemed put out about that and insulted me by clarifying that I wanted it "to go", as if I didn't know what that meant. I actually was not leaving, just didn't want the big tippy cup. All of this was fine, as I just ignored her attitude and even gave her a tip, but when she dumped my coffee into the paper cup, I asked her if she ever tried to make a design on the top, like a fish.... to which she replied, "Does it matter?" "Yes" I said. Her reply was "I can do a lot of things." How rude is she? Wow. I won't come back. Kind of a downer to deal with a person like that right away in the morning. I can't believe it but sitting here drinking my now stone cold coffee, I am seeing her actually being somewhat friendly to other people... possibly she just objects to my business attire vs. full black clothing, tatted up, with a bone in my nose. read more

Excellent place for a private party. Great stage for live music. Smiling/humble servers. Intimate feeling. Strong sense of community with posted bulletins announcing local events. Ample parking with its own parking lot. Convenient, clean, and safe location situated in the heart of the newly updated neighborhoods of northeast mpls. Great food. They began charging for dairy free milk options, before they never did and that was something I really loved about Five Watt. I also only get $0.10 off for bringing in my own cup. I will sadly, not be visiting as often because it is a very expensive stop now when there are many other local shops on my route to work that are $2-$3 cheaper for a latte :( read more

Five Watt (FW) is by far one of my favorite coffee shops in Northeast! I came this past Sunday around 11:30am and stayed until approximately 3:00pm to work on a presentation. I believe I paid $6.50 in cash for a in-house coffee and almond croissant (see photo). The coffee was delicious and the croissant was INCREDIBLE! Flaky, not overdone in the middle, and plenty of almond flavor. Compared to Spyhouse, in-house refills at FW are only $1, which is such a great deal for those staying multiple hours! Spyhouse charges nearly full price for refills in a tiny cup, so I was happy with my two $1 refills. FW has a great aesthetic and everyone is super nice. I've gotten the nitro cold brew multiple times during the summer months and it's a game changer! Comes from a keg, so it's smooth and creamy--delicious! I got plenty of work done thanks to the convenience of outlets around. I was at the middle benches, which have outlets right underneath--nice touch! Spyhouse should follow suite. Eventually, I got hungry for lunch and ordered the turkey pesto aioli panini on grilled sourdough. For $8 it was a decent sized sandwich, handmade in the back, with a side of chips (sorry, I forgot to take a photo!). The one thing I'll note about FW is the seating fills up QUICK. I thankfully got in when it was still early, but I noticed a lot of folx circling around and eventually leaving because there was nowhere to sit. Probably nothing management can do, but I'm sure their experiences weren't as pleasurable as mine. Overall, if you're looking for a local coffee shop with both bakery and lunch/dinner items, a reasonable refill price, and a productive environment, FW is the place! read more

Came here with my team to work outside the office. The staff was super fun and engaging! I'm not a coffee drinker, but heard this place is amazing and honestly, I wasn't picking where we were meeting haha they have a cute cozy corner with a couch and chair. The internet was terrible... that's the reason I left. I got a muffin and it was delicious - their bakery items looked amazing even though it's limited. I would go back to try a chaider that is a mixture of chai and apple cider. I recommend trying it out, just maybe not during the work day if you are needing the internet. read more

Their employees are always friendly and helpful and I always leave in a better mood than when I came.
