Then they tried to strong arm me to sign off on work that was not completed because it was a holiday weekend and they wanted to finish early. I finally signed but with notes listing the work that was not finished. My son, who owns the house, was furious at the strong arm approach, and called them and they sent out the owner. He kind of fixed things, but the heaters are still a mess. Avoid them.

Hmmmm. They use expensive AC capacitors…read more I picked out Rey's Air because it has a 4.9 Yelp rating. You can't always judge Yelp's rating by its cover. Our AC went on the blink yesterday. It's less than ten years old and is used minimally. The unit's interior house fan and exterior AC fan remained working but the compressor failed to engage. The air was not being chilled. I'm old. 76. I know that capacitors commonly fail and I have had them replaced over the years. Rey' Air quoted $79 to take a look. What could go wrong. On the positive side Rey's Air arrived promptly the next day. On the negative side, after about a half hour of perusing, the tech said that he determined that I likely have a bad capacitor. He recommended replacing it, or even upgrading to a better capacitor unit (for $200 "more") When I asked what the 'regular' capacitor replacement would be, he said $285. I hesitated. I said that's a lot for a capacitor. (Home Depot sells them for as little as $10 to $20 for the part). He said everything is expensive or something to that effect. I said okay. Let's just get it done. I did not want to go through more torment with another AC outfit. I said let's just go with the "cheaper chicken". Then the tech began adding. He said okay. "So that's 285 plus 79 (the show up fee). That's $364! (for a $10 part). I think I said 'yikes'. That is an 'expensive capacitor'. After a couple of minutes the tech relented agreeing to "only charge me" $285 for the half hour of looking (and five minute replacing). Bottom line: Fair price for fair service is all we ask. I see some gouging here. I understand that there are times when changing a capacitor's price should go up. As when there are hazardous or miserable conditions including problematic accessibility, or with lengthy or repeated driving times. None of that applied. Short drive. Open and shady and cool work space. If Rey's were to have charged $180 or even $200 for the tech's 30 minutes attendance, that would have been fair and profitable. Two star rating is best I can do. .

er: I have to spread the word about a terrific fix-it man, who will take on small and large jobs with equal gusto! A born tinker, Walter Fraser, is quite handy and multi-talented. I recently had new windows installed throughout my two-story house - a big investment for me and I needed someone to handle the loosed ends or finishing touches related to the renovation - like panting the trim to match. Walter happily took on this slight tedious, rather painstaking task and painted all the trim neatly, seamlessly integrating the new features. In recent years, I've inherited several ceiling fans, acquired quite a few thrifts store "treasures" & even just brought home "found" items -- a free matching set of light fixtures, all of which Walter has expertly installed in my house. He's never been daunted in the least that these second-hand gems always involved different brands and hook ups nor that instructions & occasionally even key components and connectors were missing. Walter always improvises without batting an eye. All these projects speak to Walter's versatility, ingenuity and resourcefulness well enough but I've saved the best for last: over 2 years ago, Walter worked tirelessly to tear down and replace my deck. Although he had never worked with the materials I'd selected for my deck, Walter relishing the opportunity and challenge, diligently researched everything about the material and sought additional advice as needed. He completed this project beautifully and in a timely manner, demonstrating an impressive work ethic, strong attention to detail, and high quality standards. Walter (Mr Fix-It) is terrific! He is very responsive and professional, and is well-versed in a variety of handyman jobs. Walter is a heck of a nice guy too! He helped us with framing about 10 of our windows. He showed initiative, knew what he was doing (and/or researched it), and kept us well informed about his progress. During this entire process Chris (and his workers) were exemplary. He knows Davis regulations and building codes like the back of his hand, clearly presents his prices, and helped us navigate many tricky issues. For example, upon doing our electrical work it was discovered that almost none of our outlets were grounded, presenting a major fire-hazard. Chris worked with us to replace these at a minimal charge. He also took our many questions in stride and was on-site himself almost every day. We are so happy we went with Chris. I wish I could give him five stars for the craftsmanship, our hardwood came out looking great!…read more However, with that said, I agree with the long review below, not sure about his unlicensed contractor, however, our project came out to be $4000 above quoted price. This is a very big deal, if we did not have the budget, we would not have been able to pay. He always picks up his phone, however not an efficient communicator. The only reason I am not making a huge deal, is because the final price came out to be around the same amount, maybe just a few hundred higher, and then our other quotes we were given. He did the carpet in our house as well. I did not experience missed appointments with him, as others have. He always showed up early, or on time to all of the appointments we had with him. Again, was very easy to get a hold of. I really wish he had quoted me correctly, he forgot a lot of things (cost to remove the old floor, concrete costs, various other labor costs.). I don't feel he is trying to cheat us, mostly disorganized. If you are like us, and got a too good to be true quote from Tom, make sure you ask him to break everything down, make sure he didn't forget thousands of dollars worth of labor. That's exactly what happened to us. Overall happy with our floor, not so much with this business.
