UPDATED. The shop is now moved from the Elliston location to a brand new building in the Buchanan Arts District right across the street from Slim & Huskys. The shop has a really nice industrial chic vibe inside, super bright and clean. And of course, there's still all those awesome framed flash tattoo sheets to look at around the walls. This new spot is so neatly laid out, with a front desk and seating area, the four guys each having their own space; yet the shop still feels open and organized. Extra bonus points that there is a great parking lot behind the building. If you want super quality work and serious artistry skills from someone that's been in the business for 20 years who doesn't overbook himself and will get you an appointment set up quickly, James is still my recommendation. I got a tattoo here 3 years ago. It was a solid thin black line around my arm. While I take into account that a straight line around your arm is difficult, the artist assured me it'd look good. We redid the stencil twice and it still didn't look straight, but he was too lazy to wipe it off and redo it again and said he'd make it straight when he did it.. but he just ended up tracing right over the terribly squiggled stencil and I immediately knew it was messed up badly. I cant remember the guys name but he had floppy earlobes healing from gauges. Anyway, I ended up having to pay $120 for a simple messed up black line around my arm. It's not even filled in now, they didn't offer any free touch-up options, the ink used was crappy, and the service was very subpar. This is a tourist trap.. just don't go. Waste of money and arm space. read more

Here's a statement that is true for all tattoo shops: Every artist has their own specialty; not every tattooist will tattoo everyWHERE on a client. Some artists won't tattoo ribs, or feet, or faces, etc. This is why it's essential to have a variety of artists in a shop. I never thought after years of collecting tattoos that I would suddenly get turned away- denied a tattoo. I walk in and the guy who greets me tries to talk me out of my idea as soon as I explain it to him. He says that I'm not 'heavily tattooed enough' for the tiny hand tat I'm requesting. By the way, I've had seven hours worth of ink over the years. And I'm requesting a cover up. A cover up of a tat that's already there! He says he doesn't do face or hand tattoos on people who aren't "heavily tattooed enough". A girl with purple hair and a face tattoo walks over and chimes in that she wouldn't get it covered up either. Because i care what she thinks. I don't know what about me (blonde hair, no facial tats?) made them peg me as not being serious about my ink, but I totally felt judged. And I told them so. And the guy mumbled something about how some of the other artists there would be willing to do my tat for me, only as I was walking out the door. Like I said, I know not every artist does every kind of tattoo. But if you're greeting customers as they walk in, don't talk them out of being customers. Epilogue: Went to another shop right after this. The artist who greeted me said, "I don't do hand tats, but hold on and I'll let you talk to a guy who does.." It's that easy. read more

There are 100 great tattooers in Nashville, but there is a reason I have been going to Jason St. Clair for 15 years. Amazing talent aside, I'm happy to take my business to an artist who isn't a creep, asshole, or drug addict. (those can sadly be hard to find) Jason is a family man that I trust whole heartedly. I'm visiting from Arizona, never in my almost 10 years of getting tattooed have I ever received bad customer service by a shop and I just walked out of this place fuming lmao. I've never been turned away from an entire shop for a tattoo. I wish i knew the guys name cause they all look the same, but the guy at the counter was the rudest person in a shop i've ever dealt with. I get not wanting to tattoo something you're not comfortable tattooing but hey maybe at least handle it professionally. I stated "i know how tattoos heal, i have a million of them" cause for some reason i guess he couldn't see my completely covered arms. and he says "okay, and i've done a million of them." i asked about a different design but i really want the lettering so i said "what other shops are around here? i'm not from here" and he says "i mean, google it." like what tf kind of customer service is that? just tell me asshole. i came to nashville today to have some fun on my trip and it was just completely ruined. read more

The portrait of my pooch that he did for me is so beautiful it brought a tear to my eye, surprising both of us. Came here for my first tattoo, the customer service was alright (not incredibly rude but not very helpful/friendly either). The problem I have with this place is the guy who did my tattoo -- he was extremely cold and unhelpful. Since it was my first tattoo, I wanted to get as much feedback and help as I could in deciding exactly what I wanted, and he pretty much just told me it was up to me and didn't answer any of my questions. He also kept asking me repeatedly if I was completely sure I wanted what I wanted after I finally decided -- wtf? It's not like you helped me make that decision anyway. After getting the tattoo I noticed there were noticeable problems with how it turned out. Blowouts, inconsistent line weights, not symmetrical at all. Unfortunately I don't remember this guy's name but he should not be tattooing if he is messing up on simple script tattoos which is what I got. Don't waste your money here! read more
