We rented a pontoon boat with a $300 deposit in March for our family vacation in July. The day arrived and the conditions on the lake were marginal, but they sent us out anyway without a care. No walk around of the boat was done in advance to make sure there was no previous damage. After an hour they arrived at the vacay home's dock, but the waves prevented us from docking. Part of the dock was damaged in the attempt and it became very dangerous. A piece of metal was knocked off the boat and a little more damage was done. We decide to return the boat so another hour was spent getting back. Going and coming should have taken 30 minutes each way.These people ended up charging (gouging) us over $1000 for 2 hours with the boat and damages. We are reasonably sure that the small dents could not have been caused by us. There is no way it will cost them anywhere near that much, if in fact, they do the repairs. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE.....THEY TREATED US HORRIBLY!!! There are better options in town!! read more

WARNING - you are exposing yourself to major liability if the boat you rent gets damaged in any way, be it your fault or not. I give this place 2 stars rather than one because admittedly, the boat was in very good condition and provided for a fun afternoon. As we approached our boat at the dock - after signing away your right to any insurance - you realize the place is infested with gnats. the lawn, the boat is covered with these things. You have to towel off the entire boat repeatedly to get them off. We got going after getting the gnats off and as we approached Wild Horses Island, the propeller struck a shallow set of rocks and our propeller got scraped up. What you don't know until you arrive at the reservation office, after you have placed your deposit, is that before you get your boat, you have to sign an agreement which makes you financially responsible for any damage to the boat. If that contract of sorts bothers you, would you bail and ruin your afternoon? no, you wouldn't and that is what the company's strategy is. You're hooked, and on the hook for any damage to the boat. Be it by accident or act of nature. Like a set of trophies, the company displays all damaged propellers in front of their office. You look at them and think, who would be stupid enough to damage the prop? well, it happens quite easily because you hit shallow water very quickly when you approach Wild Horses Island, which is the big attraction for these boat rides. Did we get a warning about that? of course not. You get a laminated map with some shades of blue indicating the depth of the water. But no indication that the area becomes rocky very quickly, and by the time you see it, it's too late. This is why so many propellers have been damaged and are out in full display. We did get a warning that there were a lot of floating logs out there because of a recent storm, and that we should be careful. We didn't hit any, but it could have easily happened. Upon our return we tell the guy that the propeller got scraped up. My wife gets to the office and is asked to sign a charge of $325 for a new aluminum propeller. My wife asks about the consequences if you ruined the boat somehow. The answer ? Pay for a new boat, the lady at the desk tells her. She recounts a story in a very matter of fact way, in a vaguely mocking manner, about a young woman who was forced to tie her boat up at one of the islands because of a "freak storm". The boat got damaged and she was required to pay for a new boat. The lady at the counter explains that her family had to pay because the woman didn't have the money. I think that's pretty outrageous, and that story compelled me to write this review. It is a warning to others. You as a customer cannot get insurance against such an accident. Your credit card will not insure you against boat rental damage - only vehicles. Our charge for a new aluminum propeller was $325. I know it was aluminum after doing some research. Those props costs $100-$200. And how do you replace it? check it on YouTube. You unscrew the old one with a wrench and put the new one on. It looks like it takes 15 minutes. I wrongly assumed it was stainless steel because the cost was high. The lady who took our money allowed me to believe that, and said we actually got a discount, and that I should feel lucky. The truth is, and they know it, is that the prop is made of aluminum. They are far cheaper and more easily damaged. My email protesting the charge of $325 for a new aluminum prop was ignored. I caught them in a lie - their claim that I paid for a stainless steel prop was a lie- and they refused to admit it that in reality it was aluminum. That makes this company dishonest at best. They will charge you whatever they want for any kind of damage be it due to negligence, sheer accident, or actually caused by an act of nature. The lady treats me like some naïve city slicker, and said their policy is the "Montana way. You break it, you buy it." I see those signs in cheap art stores as well. It's fine for a $50 glass bowl, but it doesn't work for a boat that can cost $50,000 or more to replace. I don't think this company represents Montana values. It's their excuse for their unethical business practices. Mind you, this company must operate with some insurance. But they refuse to extend it to customers. You are completely exposed up the value of the boat itself. You wouldn't drive your car without insurance, so why would you take a boat out in a lake you are not familiar with? people do it because they've made a reservation, have given a deposit, and don't want to ruin well-laid plans. So you're stuck and hope or assume that nothing will go wrong. Well, something can easily go wrong. read more

We were able to take the boat over night because they took the time to check out the rental home dock. Totally above and beyond service! This is a well run company and we enjoyed our boat rental and had no issues. We arrived early to pick up our boat, a 21' - 22' boat with a cover. The checkout process was thorough, they covered everything we would need to use the boat in Flathead Lake. We had a 8 hour rental, we arrived early to pick up the boat at 9:00 AM. They advised us the weather was not optimal to be in the lake and we had the choice of taking the boat up the Flathead River towards Kerr Dam or returning around 1:00 PM and they would honor a four hour rental. We opted for the 8 hour rental and cautiously took the boat up the Flathead River, but as it turned out it was the most enjoyable part of our day. There were no other boaters out and the weather had warmed up for us. By the time lunch came around, we were in Flathead Lake and enjoying it's beauty. We returned on time and there were two staff members on the dock to help us dock the boat and remove our belongings (and kids) from the boat. They took the boat to check how much fuel we used and we returned to the office. After all the paperwork was done, I noticed that our boat was actually in the next price bracket (and extra $40). There was a miscommunication and we should have not been charged for the next boat size up. They changed the paperwork and charged the credit card appropriately. All-in-all this is a great company with a great product. They are professional and I would rent from them again and recommend them. read more

We were staying at whitefish and decided to make the trip to Polson to rent a boat. We had a reservation for 10am-6pm and showed up slightly after (it's hard to wrangle everyone in my family to show up on time). After filling out all the paperwork and getting ready, we weren't ready to actually depart from the dock until 10:45am, but they still gave us a full 8 hours from that time allowing us to return at 6:45pm which was really nice. We compared their prices to some of the other rental companies and they were very competitive/on the lower end. We docked multiple times during the day to use the bathroom and someone was out there to help every single time. Great customer service, great pricing, and overall awesome experience! read more

Every time we rented a boat the staff or owners would take the time to make sure we understood every feature of the boat and were comfortable with the boat. Good boat but these guys are running a scam. During checkout of the boat, the employee had me check the boat for damage. He noted no damage on the boat but we didn't inspect the back left corner of the boat which was facing away from the dock (my bad for not looking). I had the boat out for about 7 hours and docked it once on the same side as it was docked when I checked it out so that the left side of the boat was never docked to anything. When I returned the boat, the attendant without looking at any other part of the boat went immediately to the back left corner of the boat and said that I damaged the gel coat and charged me $150. When I explained that the boat never saw a dock on that side, he refused to listen. There's no question in my mind that that damage pre-existed. Buyer beware or make sure you check everything carefully. Never again will I do business here. read more

We have rented from this company multiple times and we started to catch on to the fact they way overcharge you for gas YOU DID NOT USE. When we started to notice this, we decided to fill up at the station by Wild Horse Island 2 hrs prior to returning the boat (we always do 8 hr rentals). After you unload your stuff, they refill the tank and then call up to the office with the number of gallons they replaced which is then added to your bill. You do not get to see this process. Anyway, the number of gallons they said we used was the same as our prior visit when we never refilled on our own. There was no way we used as much gas in less than 2 hrs as we did when we out for 8 hours. Activity was exactly the same.They also conveniently forgot to subtract the deposit we had given them when we placed our reservation. You just have to watch them extremely closely when it comes to what they end up charging you. We feel strongly there was a pattern to these issues. Hopefully we are wrong. read more
