Flavory Bistro serves delicious food in a quaint environment. Sometimes I wish it was more decorated, but the food is just so, so incredible that it doesn't really matter. The beef gyro is my favorite item on the menu, followed by the hummus plate with extra pita. Sit at the bar, order a glass of wine, and then go from there. Note: when you sit at the bar, Chef Lisa often offers you samples. Always say yes. read more

This is a nice little cafe kitchen with a quaint cafe counter, lounge area, and ample seating to enjoy a hand made juice, glass of wine, and of course the great food and deserts. Gyros are the best with lots of meat on a fresh bed of lettuce and tomato, savory hummus and tahini sauce. The tahini could be a little more seasoned for my taste but just dip your well seasoned fries in it and you have yogurt cucumber bliss. Owners are super nice and food is promptly delivered with care, great place to have a down to earth conversation with family and friends. Dude. The @flavorybistro in Ankeny is a must try. Amazingly delicious hummus and our gyro was top notch. Their French fries are even worth the trip! You gotta go to Ankeny and check them out! Our table ordered all the same beef gyro which made them run out of meat and caused us to wait longer, but the owner took care of our drinks and a complimentary hummus plate as we waited. The paella was delicious. Lots of shrimp, scallops. Excellent flavor. We ordered this for four people and took plenty home. The Mediterranean Platter was also delicious. Wine selection was good, beer selection is limited to domestics. Atmosphere is pleasant, limited seating but we were seated immediately. Open kitchen where you can watch them prepare your food. Such a disappointment. We have reservations set for 6:30 on Friday night. We arrived about 10 minutes early, and we were seated within 5 minutes. Then was sat, and sat, and sat. At 6:50 we finally got up and left. No waiter had even taken a drink order for us. We sat completely unacknowledged for 25 minutes. They were very busy, but this was completely unacceptable. No one greeted us, there was no sign telling us to wait, and everyone was just working behind the food counter. This is a new place in an area that has recently finished being constructed. I think they will evolve as the area matures. It's a barebones place without any special feel or charm. Kind of loud...I think it's the acoustics of the narrow room and hard furniture: nothing to absorb the sound. The lady who waited on us...great smile. She wasn't all that sure of herself or especially knowledgeable of the menu...but, I'll bet she was pretty new. The food...very tasty. It took quite a while for it to emerge from the kitchen but it was attractively presented...and ample. Lunch for 3 adults and a child was about $50...I thought it was fair. They do have vegan options...which is a Plus for those who have made that commitment. read more

Although i went traditional with my Beef gyro, it was sliced thick beef/lamb served with fresh made hummus and tzatziki sauce. This place is great - fresh, quiet, fast, friendly! The dish I had was wonderful. The only drawback was I had trouble finding something on the menu to order. The menu seems long enough because it's front and back, but this includes: breakfast, sandwiches and main dishes. I would like to see a little more for appetizers, maybe flatbread pizza or something similar? Loved the asparagus especially and the charred garlic!! Cesar salad was phenomenal !! Nice tangy dressing but not over dressed on crisp romaine lettuce!! The restaurant was very clean and the interior very nice but the menu was limited and difficult to determine what was actually included. I ordered the falafel sandwich and was not sure if it came with any sides. The wrap came out with a small bowl of cucumber and tomatoes mixed with taziki sauce to put into the wrap which was good.
