    Sofia Loren - garlicky goodness!
    Kristina O.

We have gotten slices here several times and love that there's just an option around ankeny to get a slice or two with so many flavorful options that's ready to go quickly. Recently, we also ordered several full pies for a baby shower. We ordered the day before and they were hot and ready at pick up time! These were a hit at the party! I highly recommend the Sofia Loren and Sausage Arrabbiata! It's good to have variety in the pizza world and we're so glad they're in Ankeny. If you haven't gone yet, give them a go!

This place has wonderful people, top to bottom, and their pizza is so darn good. Great service, smiles, and kindness. Donnie and Kim rock! Loved their "Grandma" and "Tuscan Chicken" slices.

My fiancé and I have been coming to Nonna's for a little over a year now and I can confidently say it's better every single time. We've tried a fair bit of the pizzas and the Sofia Loren is the best in our opinion. Talk about awesome service. No matter who you are or how long you've been coming, you'll feel like family at Nonna's. Every staff member is so nice, and it doesn't feel like they're putting on a service workers performance. Just authentically very nice and pleasurable people to talk to. Lastly, the restaurant itself. Despite the size of the restaurant, it gives the energy a hole in the wall restaurant has. Very good. Not too boastful. Exactly what you'd want your favorite pizza place to have. The chairs at the tables are comfy while you're waiting for your food, the full bar with plenty of beers and IPAs on tap. It's the perfect place to have a celebration or wind don after a long days work. If you live in Des Moines/Ankeny and you haven't tried Nonna's it's a must. If you have friends or relatives coming from out of state and you're looking for a very good place to to take them: Nonna's If you don't know what you want for dinner: go to Nonna's In the end just go to Nonna's, you won't regret it.

It took me ages to get here but so glad I went. You walk in and immediately you're standing at the pick your slice counter just like in NYC. Tons of choices to select from. I picked the Sicilian with pepperoni, the Margarita and chicken bacon ranch. I loved the Sicilian and Margarita - both crust and taste were awesome. I liked the chicken on the cbr, but it was just okay. The slices are HUGE as you can see in my photo. My husband had the Grandma's, the Supreme and the sausage arrabiata. It was pretty spicy for me. The grandma's was fantastic! We got fountain drinks as well. The place isn't fancy, but the service was fast and friendly andthey have real silverware. There were tables of varying sizes and a bunch of tvs all around. I will definitely return!

This place was amazing! We ordered a pasta, a salad, the Philly cheesesteak, and a deep dish square pizza. Everything was delightful. The crust and sauce on the pizza was flavorful and delicious. The crust was crisp on the bottom but flaky and tender on the inside. And the sauce was bold and bright. A real treat. We ordered too much but will have leftovers for days. And they were so helpful in getting everything packed up for us so it would fit in our hotel mini fridge. We will be making this a stop anytime we are in the area. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

If you're looking for delicious, authentic Italian food in Ankeny, be sure to check out Nonna's Pizza and Pasta. My wife and I ordered some food to go for dinner recently, and it was outstanding. I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in, and the atmosphere was exactly what you want from a cozy Italian restaurant. Warm lighting, inviting decor, and the aroma of fresh Italian food filled the air. My wife ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs, a classic choice, and she was not disappointed. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was rich, hearty, and bursting with flavor. The meatballs were large, tender, and seasoned just right. Some of the best she's had in a long time. It's clear they take pride in their homemade sauces and recipes. I went with the Ziti Matriciana. The ziti was cooked perfectly and tossed in a flavorful tomato sauce with garlic, basil, and olive oil. Every bite had that perfect combination of comfort and authentic Italian goodness. And we couldn't resist a cannoli for dessert, and we were so glad we did. My wife had never had one before. The shell was crisp and flaky, and the filling was smooth, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet with hints of vanilla and chocolate. Between the welcoming atmosphere and truly authentic Italian food, Nonna's Pizza and Pasta is a place we'll definitely be returning to. If you're in the mood for pasta, pizza, or one of their incredible desserts, you won't be disappointed. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and stop by. You'll be glad you did!

I've eat here twice!! Really good pizza in a really cool place. Looks like they even have a good selection of bourbon as well.

What a fun place for lunch! So many choices of yummy pizzas! You order at the counter, get your own drinks & real silverware & they bring your chosen piece of pizza after heating it up in the pizza oven. I had a chicken Caesar salad pizza slice & hubby had sausage. Mine was exactly what its name is: salad on a pizza crust. It was good, but I won't get it next time. I'll go for a more pizza like kind & get a salad on the side. Hubby's sausage pizza was pretty spicy with yummy cheesy sauce. He enjoyed it. He thought he needed two pieces but couldn't finish them both! Next time we'll probably go for the special: 2 slices of cheese pizza & a drink for $9! What friendly folks! They greet you & check on you!

We stopped in here for a date night this week! You walk in an order from a counter, and can seat yourself anywhere in the dining area. Drinks are self serve, except from the bar. Everything was really good, the serve was great we had a mix up with our order and they fixed it right away. Really great pizza, having just been to New York earlier this year - it's the most authentic to nyc pizza as you can get here in Iowa! We will be back for sure.

The service and food here are excellent!! This is a order in the front and then take a seat type of establishment. They have slices behind the case, whole pies, salads, sandwiches, and pastas. (The music here was music from our days. They had new wave/techno, dance music and it was all of the good beats. Whoever is controlling the music, love it!) The Food: Penne Vodka slice was delicious! Would get again, might actually get the pasta dish instead since this was so tasty Sophia Loren and Square pizza were both great! The Bruschetta and complimentary bread were outstanding! Even our oldest son was raving about them both Chicken Primavera with pink sauce (no olives). This was soooo filling and soooo yummy! I am looking forward to trying their other pasta dishes because this one was so good. I would expect nothing less now We would definitely come here again and would definitely recommend to others!!

Super Yummy warm and fresh bread!

I really wanted to like this place as it's new to Ankeny and a local small business but I have to…read moresay my first time here was underwhelming. We were seated quickly at 5:45. Two other tables in the place were occupied. Host came and gave us waters/silverware. We didn't see a server for 15 minutes while the host came by again gave us some bread. We let him know we were ready to place a drink/app order. He said he was just the host, he'd go look for our server and also apologized for the wait because they were slammed. No other tables had filled other than the 2 that were occupied when we came in. There was an uninterested bartender, or rather just a guy standing on the other side of the bar because he didn't do anything the whole time we were there. Our server came over after another 5 minutes and took our drink/app order. While waiting for our drinks, the table behind us complained about their steak & said it was inedible and the server brought the owner out who offered them half off their bill & gave them free desserts. When our drinks finally came (40 minutes later), we said we were ready to place our entree order. She took our order, seemed unenthused & said "it will be awhile for the garlic knots, we are super busy, so... sorry." Still only 3 occupied tables. The garlic knots came out & they were the same bread as the ones that came out for free in the beginning. Would have been good to know before we paid extra for them as the appetizer. They were good and buttery. The side salads were rather boring, romaine lettuce & cucumbers and an underwhelming amount of croutons. The ranch for the salad was quite good. Our entrees came out an hour after ordering. My husband ordered the lasagna & said it tasted good but it was more like a baked pasta with thick layer of cheese, then a layer of lasagna noodle on top of a pasta-sauce soup. I ordered the chicken parm. Presentation was not good. Not enough sauce, too much cheese. Chicken was breaded well but I barely got to it. Taste was not very flavorful. I didn't dislike it but I won't be desperate to eat it again. We had to ask for refills every time we needed one. Didn't complain but we did ask for our check right away, the owner came over apologizing for the wait and offered us a free dessert. She was very nice and apologetic & we felt bad. We chose a cannoli and it was delicious. The owner told us she makes the cannoli filling herself and it was so good!! The entire meal took a little over 2 hours & we're not sure if we'll be back, but if we were it would be for the owner's cannolis & not for dinner. I hope it was just an off night & might suggest hiring better staff if it wasn't.

I think this is now out of business. Keep driving by and it is never open. Do not plan on going…read morethere for food.

For an appetizer we ordered the onion rings. They are shoestring rings which are my boyfriend's favorite and he loved these. His only complaint was that they needed more salt, but there was some at the table so he just added his own. The ranch that comes with them is also very good. For pizza, we split the Northsider and thought it was delicious. The pepperoni they have is so good. I'm not sure where they are getting it, but it's my favorite pepperoni. To us, it seemed a little pricey for pizza, but it was so delicious we thought it was worth it. We typically don't eat all our leftover pizza, but there was not a single slice left over. The service is wonderful and they even let us know ahead of time that pizza was running a little longer when we ordered which didn't bother us, but it was appreciated they told us. They even box your leftovers up which is so appreciated. Everyone was kind, the pizza was 10/10, and the drinks were cold. We will be back!

Uptown Food and Beverage was a fabulous stop, combining a tremendously cozy setting (booths/tables), ease of parking, location, and remarkable historic photos lining their walls. This place works well. Luckily, we had a superb server for our maiden voyage, as Adriana rocked! She helped us with menu options and was both kind and knowledgeable. We shared a tasty Caesar salad, and I appreciated that they served the dressing on the side without requesting it. Their thinner-crust pizza is delicious! We selected two, ordering their Margherita (olive oil, fresh chopped garlic, sweet basil, and topped with aroma tomatoes) and their Spicy Italian 16" options. Wowowowowowowowow! Both pizzas were fabulous, maintaining their consistency, and simply delicious. Thanks to fellow Yelper Dan T for his Spicy Italian recommendation. Sure, we brought home a lot of pizza, but this weekend will be better because of it. I learned they have a good lunch buffet (11-130PM), and we arrived during their 5-7 PM weekday Happy Hour but did not explore it. I had heard about their onion rings and saw an order at a nearby table that had me yearning for them on our next visit.

Not to be confused with Uptown Garage Brewing (also in Ankeny) or Uptown Bar & Grill in Grimes... I've been ordering and eating pretty much the same thing here since it was Encore Pizza in Johnston. Lol A large Spicy Italian pizza Italian cheese sticks And a fountain drink... Dennis Gibson opened Encore Pizza in Johnston years ago. He started out as an Ankeny Hawk, went on to ISU (he's an ISU hall of famer), was drafted by the Detroit Lions and later played for the San Diego Chargers and led his team to a Super Bowl appearance. And he's a heck of a nice guy... I loved Encore Pizza, but Dennis missed his hometown I guess and wanted to be headquartered in the community he grew up in. Encore Pizza closed and he opened a larger location in Ankeny and rebranded it Uptown Food and Beverage Co. Many of the menu items carried over from Encore to UF&BC and the menu has expanded past what it was. And another carry over is the high backed booths... Which I dearly love! These booths are big enough to seat six people easily... Seating at UF&BC is a bar and bar stools, both low and high top tables and chairs, and the aforementioned high backed booths. There is street parking along Maple and SW 3rd St. and a couple small parking areas within easy walking distance. Because of the parking and adjacent businesses you can be deceived on how busy Uptown Food and Beverage Co. looks. We arrived for lunch a little before noon yesterday. That's late for a Saturday lunch for us... Parking was pretty full, but when we walked in there was only one other couple in the restaurant... More people arrived in the next hour, but it wasn't near as busy as it looked from outside. Don't let a lot of cars be your barometer. Stick your head in or give them a call. They may not be as busy as you think they are. Italian Cheese Sticks... Five sticks breaded in Italian flour, fried golden brown, served with a cup of marinara Obviously hand cut and always served hot and molten! The Spicy Italian is described as red and Alfredo sauces, hot Italian sausage, banana peppers and jalapeños. This is probably my favorite pizza in the entire metro and as close as I get to thin crust. It is a thin crust, but it's not cracker thin. Rarely do I deviate from these two items. When it comes to UF&BC I'm a creature of habit or a one trick pony if you will... But I've never ordered anything off the menu that has disappointed me. The staff here is always top notch. Quick to greet you at the hostess station just to the Right as you walk in the door. Always on top of refills. And they check on you enough to make sure you have what you need, but not too much that they are bothersome. Your order is taken at the table and that's where your bill is presented and taken at the end of your meal. Cash and cards (but not American Express). For you lunch buffet fans there is a pizza and salad buffet Monday through Friday from 1100 AM - 130 PM. You can also order off the menu during the buffet hours if buffets aren't your jam... Truly one of my favorite spots in the metro and will never drop out of my rotation! https://uptownfoodandbeverage.com/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063493183495
