None of this was communicated to me in English until after the service was done. If he had told me my hair wasn't a good candidate for a perm, I absolutely would not have gone through with it. After the service, he took multiple photos of my hair, just like the ones featured on his Instagram, but never posted them -- which says a lot. If the result had turned out well, I'm sure he would have proudly shared it. Initially, the result looked like soft "blowout" waves, which I accepted. But once I washed my hair following his exact instructions -- leave-in conditioner, oil, twisting, and air drying -- my hair turned completely straight, dry, and fried in multiple sections. I was so concerned that I sought a second opinion from a licensed cosmetologist the next day, who told me my hair was overprocessed, needed deep hydration, and strongly advised not to return to the same salon. When I reached out to Jonathan with my concerns, he first offered a redo and a free haircut, but I explained I was worried about further damage. Eventually, he said he might speak to the manager about a refund. However, when I asked for an update, he refused accountability and shifted blame onto me, saying he had "relied on the information provided by the client." But I'm not the professional -- he is. It was his responsibility to assess whether my hair could safely handle a chemical service. Additionally, the pricing was misleading. He quoted me $350 via Instagram, but when it was time to pay, the total suddenly became $380 plus an unexpected $90 haircut fee. I also tipped via Zelle, bringing the total cost to almost $550 for a service that damaged my hair. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this respectfully for a refund between us, he refused to issue a refund or take responsibility. Even if my hair had been previously dyed, a professional stylist should evaluate and communicate potential risks before performing a chemical treatment. Instead of feeling excited about my new style, I was left with damaged hair, frustration, and regret. I hope this salon -- and this stylist in particular -- improves their transparency, consultation process, and professional standards before causing this kind of harm to another client. I want to make clear if he had told me hey, you are not a good candidate right now for a perm- I would've taken myself back on the train and enjoyed 5 hours in NY doing anything else.

She explained every step of the process (with 'why', for my scientifically minded kid) and gave her choices throughout the lesson. My daughter never felt like she was being pushed into a look that wasn't uniquely her. The best part of all was the hands-on practice which gave my teen enormous confidence. For people who may not feel confident among beauticians like my daughter and me, it was incredibly comfortable and fun and informative. There was no heavy sales pitch to buy products, but we chose to buy some hard to find products for my teen's unique skin tone and couldn't be happier. I'm already planning to return with my daughter for a special skin treatment as a holiday gift.

I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. It is a shame because I wanted to work together and had no issues with the pricing for the services provided- I just wanted to clear with my husband (especially since he's the one paying for and driving me to the event hence why timing is important). She applied a liquid highlighter and it streaked down my cheek, but she never corrected it (among other mess ups she did not correct). 5. She used heavy and cheap false eye lashes. 6. She was unresponsive during the trial when I told her I was not happy with how the makeup turned out. 7. The updo she gave me fell out approximately 1 hour later. I didn't even go outside with it. 8. She cashed both the trial and deposit checks (a total of $408) despite my expressed unhappiness with her work.
