Cherry Le did my makeup for a television premiere last week. It was my first time getting my makeup done since my wedding almost twelve years ago, and Cherry made this middle-aged mom feel glamorous and red carpet ready. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. My friend hired Cherry to be her makeup artist for her wedding and she did an amazing job! My friend looked absolutely gorgeous on her wedding day. She came in the morning to set up and stayed the whole day/night to help her touch up or change her makeup for all 3 dresses my friend wore. She even gave her a mini facial before doing her makeup. I did a hair and makeup trial with Cherry back in April and knew right away I wanted her for my Oct 2021 wedding! I have typical Asian monolids so I always get nervous about eyeshadow but I was so happy with her work! She was able to do a smokey eye look that still felt very natural on me. I found in Cherry both the makeup artist of my dreams and a new friend! I found Cherry through Yelp and worked with her for my wedding and she absolutely blew me away. I did a trial with Cherry and went into it with a couple ideas and inspo pics - I wanted a soft romantic look with a low bun, and also gave her the added challenge of making my skin look flawless without heavy handed makeup. I saw so many brides who had a ton of caked on foundation who looked incredible in photos but not so incredible in real life, and I wanted to prioritize looking great in person AND in photos. Well, she nailed that assignment to a tee - my skin was luminous and perfect, like I had a filter on, but looked like my actual skin, and both my hair and makeup were perfect. I knew right away I wanted to book her for my wedding! Fast forward a few months later and after trying on my dress for fittings a few more times I realized that I actually wanted a very different look. Now, I wanted a smokier eye with more contour/sculpting with my hair down. Because I'm based in Boston I didn't have time to do another trial, but based on my first trial and on Cherry's experience I knew I could trust her to make the change. My first experience was when my friend hired her to do our bridesmaid makeup a couple years ago. Having Cherry do our hair and makeup on my wedding day is one of the best decisions I made for my wedding! I got married in late August and found Cherry on relatively short notice as my previous hair & makeup booking cancelled - we had about six weeks to plan a small ceremony. Wedding planning during COVID made it seem like we'd have to make a good number of concessions with how you want the day to go (i.e. 'safe' number of people gathering, available spaces, etc.). I expected something similar in finding new vendors, but a friend referred Cherry's services with the recommendation "I've never felt so beautiful until she did my makeup." This friend also did a makeup lesson with her afterwards (which I took as another sign of how happy she was). I honestly got lucky that my original vendor cancelled, as Cherry was responsive, clear, and accommodating in all of her communications and gave me a lot of assurance throughout the process. She wasn't pushy about a trial (as some vendors have been), especially under COVID conditions, but I asked for one considering that I wanted to know how my photos would turn out in the end. She took so much care and attention during the trial and I knew I was in good hands. She has a relaxed and professional demeanor when working so you can get to hear some of her stories and feel at ease and be comfortable throughout! Cherry was so helpful and responsive leading up to the day of. She was flexible when we had to make changes for the number of bridesmaids and even with my mother and MIL declining at the last minute to get their makeup done. On the wedding day, she and her hairstylist partner were on time, made us all feel at ease and comfortable, and we finished getting ready right on time (if not a little earlier). They use quality products and none of the process felt rushed. The getting ready process felt elevated compared to other weddings that I've been in, just small details that showed they really care about the process (i.e. extensive pre-curling and prepping of hair for an updo / different types of pins I never knew existed; care and cleanliness with makeup, putting cushions on so the makeup doesn't smudge; samples not only of the lipstick but also other face makeup in case we needed to touch up throughout the day). Post wedding and clean-up, I took a look at myself close to midnight(!) and snapped a photo of how my makeup had stayed intact (through an outdoor wedding and a fair amount of crying/tears through the day). I could not over-recommend how delighted I was to have Cherry as our H&MU for the wedding and I hope that anybody who's even on the fence or considering asking for her services would 100% shoot her an email or a message through her website. I hired cherry for my hair and makeup for my wedding, bridal party, sisters, mother's, total 12 people. This is me second time getting a facial. For the longest I've struggled with a combination of dry and oily skin. My first facial was the anti-aging. It helped restore moisture back into my skin. Afterwards I could tell that when I apply makeup it was a more smooth finish. I didn't have any creasing. I also struggle with large pores and you could barley notice them.
