If there is one thing we do not need to worry about, it's where to go for car repairs since 1997. First Mark, then Eli, have been trustworthy, knowledgeable, reliable, friendly, reasonable, and respectful. (Some car places have scorned how a female could know about carwork, but never here; in the past Mark has even said save money - you can fix this! And Eli is a fellow Dodge Dart fan, not that I have one any longer, sob sob). We go to them for advice on new old cars (last year we asked where we could find another Subaru Legacy, and they pointed across the street at the car they had just fixed - "there". Easiest search we ever had!) Combine this with being in walking distance, and we hope they never close! read more

If you have a low-wage job at the resort up the mountain and your beater keeps stalling and you've got twenty-five bucks to your name, Mark will make sure you get to work. On time. We were on our way from NJ to VT and got a flat right before the New Paltz exit on the Thruway. It was a Wednesday night at 6pm, yikes! We flew into Fleet Service Center and Eli and his team took our tire right in and plugged the hole in less than five minutes. Clean, safe, kind humans. I can not recommend this shop enough. If your car suddenly has a check engine light come on or you're leaving town on an unexpected trip and your tires seem low, this is the place to call. Literally rolled in here on our way to Hike at Minnewaska as our alternator gave out. Not only did they accommodate us same day since we were in from out of town- but they were fast and incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Since my brother is a mechanic, I had a solid idea of what the problem was as we pulled in. They were upfront, honest and had reasonable prices- even changed a fuse we requested at no charge. Great service and honest diagnostics. Dropped off my Prius thinking that I would need some work done on the suspension or steering rack. My son and I were hiking at the Mohawk Mountain House last Friday night. When we returned to the parking lot late at night, his car wouldn't start. We called AAA and they unknowingly towed us to a garage that was closed on Saturday. We had to stay the night at a local motel. In the morning, we had the car towed to Fleet. We were able to walk there from the motel and were waiting when the car arrived. As soon as the car was released from the tow truck, Mark stopped what he was doing and walked over to the car. He then spent at least an hour trying to determine what the problem was. He put it up on the lift and started taking stuff apart. After what seemed like a long time, we were happy to hear an engine start up. He had found that the wires were dirty and not making contact. He then diagnosed the engine light problem. We were obviously from out of state and desperate to get home. I braced for impact. He said $30! I then happily bought them some pizzas for lunch. read more

This seems to be a good reliable shop, my Dad has sworn by them for years. However, I would caution others about bringing their car in without already knowing what repairs are needed and being prepared in advance to pay whatever to fix the car. My experience was they said once they looked over my car, they would call me to discuss repair options. Well the next thing I hear from them is: "It's ready!". They had gone ahead and done over $800 of brake repairs on a 1995 car worth about $900, without my knowledge or consent. When I expressed my shock and dismay to the owner (Or manager?) Mark, he was completely unapologetic and did not acknowledge that professional standards had been breached. If I had wanted to keep the car, I would probably be thinking that they did a good job, but now am not sure if I will go back because I feel disrespected. read more

I've been taking my car to Fleet for about three years and find them professional, trustworthy, respectful and thorough. Today I left my car (2004 Subaru) for an inspection and asked that they also take a look to see if it needs any work to get me through the winter. They told me the car was in fine shape. There are a few things that could be fixed, but decided it isn't worth it as they knew I am planning on replacing it come spring. They could have so easily had found things to fix, padded their bill, increased their work. Instead, with the parameters I had given them, to make sure it would last till spring, they returned it to me with just the state inspection. They have a sterling reputation among my friends in New Paltz. read more

Fleet auto service is a scam. On April 13th i took my car in to get struts and control arms done. It's now a month later and I had to take my car in to a shop near home to get a tire changed. When my home shop looked at my car they said the struts were not done properly and the control arms were not replaced. The car was not properly re aligned after the claimed work either. This auto shop is the biggest scam ever. Oh, and they claim they are under new ownership also. Please save yourself the time and money and never go here. read more

A co-worker recommended Fleet and I have not been disappointed. I have been to Fleet twice and both times I have been very happy with the service. The first was for my DMV registration inspection and the second time for a routine oil change. Both times the service was quick and the owner never tried to sell me anything (even though it was clear that this was my first car and I know nothing about cars) or pad the bill. Also, the owner has been very honest with his time frame. He couldn't do the oil change the first time I went (it was close to closing time) and asked that I come back first thing the next morning. He estimated 40 minutes for the oil change and it was exactly 40 minutes. Good place which I will continue to utilize. read more

Believe all the other reviews; there's a reason why this place is rated so well. I'm a student at the college here and I got into a slight car accident which resulted in a busted headlight and a sizable dent on my engine hood. I took my car in (look for Mark!) and they told me that even though they didn't do body work they would get the dent out for me. They replaced the headlight and got the dent out in a quick manner and the bill ended up being less than what they had estimated, which was already incredibly reasonable. So, if you're a student or just someone with no knowledge of cars, bring it here! They won't take advantage of you and the service is friendly. Thanks Fleet! read more

I went to get my car checked as the engine light was coming on. Mark was very nice and friendly he told me to wait 5 minutes and then he got the computer and look into my car! It took him 10 minutes to figure out the entire codes as I had many problems in the car. He went inside looked for the problem came out and told me it had to do with the transmission and he told me where to go gave me the codes and name of the person! And he did not charge me! How nice is to have people that really care for customer service! I've always heard fantastic things about Fleet, and a couple weeks ago, I finally experienced them for myself. I was running errands on Main St when my car started smoking. I drove it Fleet and left it in their parking lot that Friday night. I called the next day to let them know what happened. I was hoping against hope it wasn't the radiator, as I know that can be a costly fix. Numerous people I spoke with told me a new radiator can cost around $500+. As a small business owner myself, that would be a considerable financial hit. On Monday, the owner called me and confirmed my fears that it was indeed the radiator. It needed a total replacement... However I was pleasantly surprised at the price quote.. Just a mere fraction of what I was expecting. Not only that, but he offered to stay late to work on my car so I could pick it up that evening, saving me a car rental fee. Fleet is what every car owner dreams of finding... While in the area, my truck had a problem which required a tow. Unsure of where a reliable shop would be, because I was not from the area, I checked the reviews of several repair shops in the area. Will not go back here. I agree with someone earlier when they said they felt disrespected. Brought my car in for some really minor repairs. They said they would call with estimates but I never heard a peep. I called multiple times trying to find out what was wrong and if there were any estimates yet, and got the same runaround each time. After 2 days I drove by with a friend and it appeared that my car hadn't even been moved because it was in the same spot I left it when I dropped it off. My car was there for 5 days before I was even told what they were going to do to it. Never given any estimates and they went and did the repairs. They made me feel uneasy about the whole situation and I felt like my time was wasted and I could have brought it somewhere else and had the fix done way faster. Nice guy, but not worth the hassle of being car-less for SO long. read more
