The biggest compliment I can give this place is that it is absolutely efficient. With this being a…read moreregional airport, it is a bit small which could lend to the efficiency of the facility. Let's do a quick overview of the airport. With it being small, checking in is swift. You only seem to have two airlines that fly in and out of here so that makes it easy to find where you need to go. This being a small airport everything is quite laid back. You don't feel hassled or rushed when you go through check in and security. TSA checkpoint here was really simple. Even though they have TSA Precheck, it is basically void here as there never really seems to be a hold up in lines. Literally I walked up, plopped my stuff on the belt, walked through and was on the terminal side. Really nothing separating the two lines, just kind of walk up, go through. Terminal side, small, again, I hate to redundant, but everything here feels like you might be in a mock up of an airport, but it is a fully functional airport. There are only six gates, so there is no mistake with figuring out where you have to be. The good thing with this is that it is again efficient with boarding the plane. Let's go back to the entrance side. All bags come to one claim area. So if your flight happens to land around the same time as another, all bags will be mixed together. That is if your bag arrives with you. See, with it being a regional airport, it equals smaller planes. This has nothing to do with the airport, but the airlines may bump your luggage on you. This actually happened to my colleague. We arrived around 11 in the morning, but her luggage wasn't showing up until 6 that evening. Without any way for it to be delivered, she had to make her way back to the airport to get her luggage. When in town for work, that's not always the best situation. Honestly, the baggage claim was probably the most fun and easy spot here. Grab your bag and head outside to get transportation to where you need to go. Speaking of transportation, wait a bit when trying to get an Uber. You'll end up missing the surge pricing. Back to the terminal side. With it being a small airport, there wasn't much in offerings for food/shopping. At the time I was there, there was only one eatery open and if I remember correctly, one shop open for snacks/gifts. Which was odd, there was a kiosk type situation going on for Dunkin' but besides the signs, nothing was offered. What appeared to be other storefronts that could be used, were in fact storage. How do you know? What is stored is up against the frosted glass and you can see it from the seating area. I didn't step foot towards the eatery as it was overcrowded, I did go into the store, much simpler and easier to navigate. The seating area again. What I liked about this is that it was abundant. Especially since not all gates are in use, so if you feel the need to spread out, you are more than welcome to go to another gate area. I absolutely loved the tables here. Shared space with pop up outlets for regular plugs and USB. Bathrooms were clean and in working condition. I was lucky the day I was flying out. It was the week that a storm was rolling across the country. I think I was on one of the only flights out of MGM that day. All other flights after a certain point out of here, were cancelled. Lots of people ended up being stuck, diverted, or driving to a nearby airport.

The airport was clean, and I enjoyed eating a breakfast sandwich from one of the shops. Food options are scarce, and there are few outlets available for charging electronics.

Just last week, I flew out to Panama City on the way to 30A for my first time and back). Both…read moretimes, I was flying Southwest Airlines with a layover in Austin, Texas. The slogan for the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) is "It's in every escape" with a capital E, C, and P. The airport advertises its convenient daily nonstop flights that make it so that planning your next escape is easy. They also like to market that at this airport, you can go from "baggage to the beach in 20 minutes." Unlike friends who absolutely hate flying, I enjoy the travel experience, especially when using some helpful tools like CLEAR, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check, airport lounge membership, and airline status. The only one of these that this airport uses is TSA Pre-Check. When checking in, I was able to easily check my bag at the Southwest Airlines counter. I then went to the All Gates check-in area and used TSA Pre-Check to skip most of the line at Security while keeping my shoes on (thanks to an American Express Platinum card which comes with credits for both TSA Pre-Check and CLEAR). Being a smaller airport, it was quite easy to navigate the gates and food in the terminal. The baggage claim was also easy to find as there was really only one baggage claim per large airline. The car rental area was more complicated though that may have been due to the rental company itself. One negative though is that there were no airline lounges of any sort. I ended up arriving quite early and visited the only restaurant with hot food (to go). I eventually found open corners of boarding areas with outlets and read a book for a while. On the ECP website, you can take advantage of free resources as a part of their Junior Flyer Zone (https://www.iflybeaches.com/junior-flyer-zone). There is also an "Art Escape" initiative in its concourse which showcases rotating beach-themed and contemporary works from local Bay and Walton County artists. Inaugural exhibits include photography by Mark Little and Chandler Williamson, along with student artwork, aiming to enhance the passenger experience. While I'm not sure when or if I'll be back to this airport or 30A, I did appreciate this airport and would go back again.

Northwest Florida Beaches Airport, also known as ECP, sits about 20 minutes up Highway 79 from…read morePanama City Beach and 20 minutes the other direction to Highway 77 in Panama City. While located out in the woods, it is fairly convenient to either the city or beach. While International is in the name, think more Regional, like Assistant to the Regional...airport and that is the vibe of ECP. When they opened close to 15 years ago, they only had 5 gates, but as of today, with a recent expansion they are up to 9. This is a "hub" for Southwest, which operates the most directs to and from. ECP is compact from entry to exit with the lobby, which is one long room, holding airline counters, souvenir shop, security lines and a small cafe. Just a few feet down you have an information desk, baggage claim and rental car counters. Out the front doors you have a covered walkway leading you to the parking lots. Once you pass through security, you head up the stairs and are greeted immediately with the gates, another cafe and souvenir shops. Convenient and compact. One thing I do appreciate about ECP is given the small size, they have copious amounts of clean and well-kept restrooms! Given the small size and limited flights/options, the amenities are also oddly timed with availability. The airport, and everything in it, begins to close fairly early in the evening, so if you are scheduled to arrive or depart after 8:00 PM, the bathrooms are about all you get access to. Speaking of amenities, the souvenir/snack shops are standard, and you can get a snack or drink as needed, however the food and beverage outlets are not the most efficient, which can create concerns if you are short on time. Fun fact about ECP...the airport code ECP was selected at random and has no true meaning. When they launched the airport code, the code they wanted was taken, so they landed on ECP, which again has no official meaning, even though the legend continues to grow that it stands for "Everyone Can Party", which I guess makes sense if you are headed to ole PCB. Overall, I enjoy ECP for what it is. A convenient option for a quick flight into PCB...I am lucky that there is a nice direct from BNA, so a 1-hour flight is always better than a 7-hour drive!

When we arrived and we exited the gate area we came out, took a right and baggage claim was right there! I think I prefer these types of airports versus the bigger ones! STUPID to have to pay $45 to get through security with a regulary ID that hasn't been upgraded to a real ID. They don't do any additional screenings to ensure you're a REAL non-threatening person... u just pay $45 and then they look at your regular ID to check your name against your reservation... lol. BUT the airport itself is great! SMALL airport, security is a BREEZE and the TWO little gates are perfect. Allegiant flight was delayed and they put out waters and soft drinks for us so that was a nice gesture from Allegiant. The airport is just so convenient, I will gladly use this one ANY time I can over Columbus, just from the pure convenience aspect of parking and getting to the gate quickly. I will have to drive father and past Columbus to get to this one, and parking is $4/day more expensive, but I will do it every time!!!
