So I just threw a surprise birthday party for my husband and had all our food catered from Fligner's. Coming from out of state, my first instinct was to go with a more known national chain like Famous Dave's. Til a friend, who lives locally, recommended Fligner's, and I am SO glad I decided to take a chance with them. First things first... I love that their catering menu is downloadable online, which made it easier. I did the a la cart option, and spent about $450 in food -- we had close to 50 people, everyone was stuffed, and we still had tons leftover after the party. Everyone loved the food. The fruits were fresh, the BBQ ribs were delicious, and the beef tenderloin and baked chicken were a hit. I also ordered the cake and some other pastries, and they most definitely did not disappoint. Best of all, their customer service was impeccable... everyone was super friendly, and they delivered the food right when thy said they would! Fligners is the best in my book! For Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, their catering has supplied my family with perhaps the best turkey and sausage stuffing we've ever tasted. The turkey was carved and oh so moist, the stuffing divine. I don't think I'll ever roast my own turkey again! For the day after Christmas I bought a 4 rib prime rib roast from their meat counter. Came to Lorain in search of Hispanic products for holiday cooking and decided to stop here for meat. What stuck me first was how the employees where pleasant to each other and the customers! Hate to say that this is rare sight to see. I appreciated how kind the women in the meat dept were when my husband and I had questions. They had good prices on meat too. We've decided to make a trip once a month because it's worth the drive. read more

I grew up in Lorain, but I have to admit I had never went to Fligner's until I moved into the Kennedy Plaza which is only one block away. Fligner's itself is a little confusing. It's address gives Broadway, but the entrance to the store is actually in the rear near the parking lot. The employees are friendly and most of the prices are resonable, especially the meat. But I find that the store itself seems somewhat claustrophobic and crammed. The aisles aren't very large. And if you haven't been to a real butcher for quite some time, the smell by the meat counters can hit you pretty hard as they did me my first time in there. I haven't seen an actual butchery in a store since Walmart got rid of theirs around 2000 or so. Regardless of the small amount of negatives I would say you should shop here at least once and make up your own mind. read more

Please don't offer chicken marsala if you have no clue how to make it. It is not breaded, we couldn't find any mushrooms and it was covered in a thick yellow gravy not a thin brown sauce like it should be. Roast beef tasted like it was purchased at the deli counter, the mac n cheese needed more cream, it was dry. Green beans were good, red potatoes in butter were fine, and rolls were terrific. Very disappointed my family and I have shopped for as long as I can remember. On the forth of July I had to work so I sent my husband to buy some beef ribs as we do not eat pork and the beef ribs had about 5lbs of fat and were not worth what I paid for them. read more

Never been to Fligner's, but I did purchase some of their Hungarian sausage at Marc's recently........super salty! Not exactly a glowing endorsement for the market, but I wouldn't mind checking it out sometime. read more

This place is amazing! So my mother is truly a very uptight New England blue blood lady and very demanding. 'That explains a lot about me lol.' So anyway, she came from Boston and I flew up from Florida to visits some cousins for the holiday and my cousin asked my mother what she wanted for dinner and my mother said a Capon. If you don't know what a Capon is, it's a castrated rooster they make super fat. So an oversized fat male chicken. We called ahead and they still had some so we headed over but by the time we got there they were out of them! My cousin Jen and I freaked cause of my mother! Like, what are we going to do now? We panicked! Then Jen got an idea to just buy the biggest fattest chicken we could find and have the meat guy just print a label for it that said Capon! He did. He laughed and did what we asked and saved Christmas! My mother picked it up, looked at it and said 'looks like a good one'. We both breathed a sigh of relief. Got back to the house with the fake Capon and all the fixins', explained to the chef cooking the situation and all was well! Yup! We had a chicken for Christmas dinner! Haha! That butcher saved Christmas and our asses. I can't thank this store enough for playing along and that's what makes places great! Amazing customer service! read more

We have been going to Fligner's for years. It's part of our community. They have catered special occasions for our family, catered funeral dinners for our family over the years, it's where I go at Christmas time to buy what I need to make tamales, where I go to find sofrito ingredients, when I'm ready to make a new batch, because you can't always find the ingredients other places, where we go to buy steaks for our 4th of July cookouts, they have an amazing bakery, they have their own line of spices, and prepared foods that are amazing and their meat counter is like stepping back in time to the 1950's. Always service with a smile and they take time to have a conversation with. I've never been disappointed with any of the meats I've purchased there and their prices and specials are great. Sign up for their weekly ad. Their bag boys are always nice boys and they will walk your cart out and load your car for you, so make sure you provide them with a nice tip. It does get crowded in there at times, but it's well worth the trip. Check it out. read more

We drive in from Cleveland as do many other people we know, to take advantage of great prices at the butcher counter.

A little crazy in there at times, but it's because they're so good they can get crowded! Their meats are fresh and really good. The servers behind the deli and bakery go above and beyond. They make great trays and such for weddings, funerals and parties. The market is clean...I like that, too. Their baggers will bag for you and take your cart to your car in their private parking lot. read more

The funeral luncheon that was catered for our family was delicious. The food was plentiful and they packaged up the leftovers for us to take home. From start to finish, their servers took care of everything. The price was reasonable also. read more

They do offer a lot in the store but their catering service is nothing special. Had them cater my daughter's wedding on the advice of the reception hall, would not recommend them to anyone looking for great taste. The buffet food was plentiful, but the fish was dry and the chicken breasts were large but on the dry side too. The wedding cake tasted good but was a huge disappointment. The cake showed through the frosting and instead of using shades of pink, the bakery manager used a neon purple at the bottom going into neon pink. *We paid extra for roses on each layer and they were not there. They offered a $25 store credit for their ugly cake, ugly being the comment we heard most at the reception. Thanks to Fligner's we skipped photos of the wedding cake other than when the bride and groom feed each other a bite. read more

The first couple of times I went they had some great meat. Then little by little over the past year, they've started going downhill. First it was the ground sirloin. It looked the part, but fried up fatty and had too much grisle in it. Then the country spareribs started to be nothing but fat and bone. The chicken is what did me in. The last two times it has been so completely unclean it might as well have the feathers still on it. Plus, the breast meat is huge, chewy, and clearly not natural by any means. I'll be looking for an organic market in the future. Shame to see it go downhill. read more
