Now I was not in the market to purchase any items, but while he was working on my hat I took a good look around at the merchandise. The selection is quite extensive, and the prices good. If you like Cinch shirts, they're a few dollars less here than what you'll pay at the other Western outfitters in Lubbock. Everybody knows about Dollar Western Wear, Cavender's and Boot Barn, but the Branding Iron may be a hidden gem. You'd be doing yourself a favor to check this place out the next time you're in the market for a Western good or service.

The two young guys working that day were nice, but sure were lazy. I inquired about big kid cowgirl boots. One employee walked us back there but gave us the sense that they didn't have much therefore he wasn't going to help anymore. It seemed like with their nonchalant attitudes, the lack of size availability, and slim pickings in other sections that they were either short on supplies or going out-of-business. It seemed more like Wood's Boot Town. Their kid's boot's prices were similar to Cavendar's and other nearby western wear stores: + Kid's desert scene boots = $69.97 + Baseball thread boots (yes, that's what she wanted because "they are super comfortable, Mom.") = $58.50 Not hard to find, but kind of "out yonder" over on 19th Street west of Loop 289.

This is a really nice-sized store with a good layout. It was clean. Organized. The sales reps were helpful, friendly, but not over-assistive or annoying. My oldest daughter always needs slim jeans. She doesn't mind Wranglers as they have a comfortable stretchy fit these days. Not like when I was little. They will look great with Hey Dudes or her cowgirl boots. Some items are pricey - as most western wear can be - but her jeans were competitively priced at $31.99. I'm a fan.

We got to Cavender's and I knew right away he would find the one... There were two options. The first he liked, but didn't love for about $250. The second he loved and ended up getting for about $477 (including tax). I say get what you love and look better for it because cowboy hats are sacred. (Listen to Chris Ledoux's "This Cowboy's Hat.) Austin was our patient and soft-spoken hat shaper. I'll be back to check out Anderson Bean boots for myself. I made some notes based on our female cashier's recommendations for better fitting boots for my platypus-foot 10-year-old daughter. Lol. (But she really does have wide feet.)

Nothing ruins a shopping experience faster than commission-driven scavenger sales tactics…read more I walked into the store intending to buy a pair of boots. Not a single salesperson offered assistance while I browsed. I found a pair on my own, tried them on, and selected the boots I wanted without any help from the staff. As I was walking to the register with the boots in hand, a salesperson suddenly appeared and asked whether anyone had helped me. I told him no. He then followed me to the register, wrote something down on a yellow pad, removed a few stickers from the boots, and walked away. When I asked the cashier what that was about, she explained that he was claiming credit for the sale. Credit for what, exactly? He provided no assistance, answered no questions, made no recommendations, and played no role in my purchase decision. Yet he still wanted commission credit for a sale he had absolutely nothing to do with. Honestly, I should have canceled the purchase on the spot. The only reason I completed the transaction was because I needed the boots for an event that day. The entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. There are plenty of western wear stores that value customer service and earn their sales honestly. Because of this experience, I will not be returning to Cavender's.

After not answering or assisting me, they substituted my item for a larger size and a completely different color without my consent. That is absolutely unacceptable. Customers should never receive a different item than what they paid for. If I have any advice for Red Raider Outfitters, it would be to merge the e-commerce and in-store departments to ensure continuity of service. After nearly 20 attempts over three weeks to contact the e-commerce department, I went in store only to learn that the two departments do not communicate at all. The staff could not answer my questions or process a return. As a result, I was forced to pay for the wrong item and excessive shipping costs because in-store returns are not allowed. I only hope they are able to refund me without some excuse or difficulty. This experience was extremely disappointing, and I will not be shopping here or recommending this business.
