Went on a Monday night, barely anyone in the bar. Service was great. Smash burger was really yummy as was the chicken quesadilla.

Decent enough local bar that serves decent enough food. This is not fine dining, but bar food and bar food does have its place in our hearts and diet. A good place to head to. read more

This place has a good atmosphere, a clean and respectable billiard room, comfortable seating, and good food. BUT! ... They put Hunt's Ketchup in old Heinz glass jars... And these glass jars are old and battered. To a Pittsburgh native, this is an atrocity, and it's too bad, because they have good fries. Plus it's kind of gross. I have been a patron of Flip and Bailey's since in was the Wild Onion. Never had any serious concerns as I went with the flow if there was a disruption with our experience. But over the last few times the disruption have been more prevalent. Last night my wife and I stopped in for some refreshments and to play a little Golden Tee. As a parent I am all for bringing children out to a restaurant but it is a restaurant, not a playground. There were three couples dining with their children. The parents sat at the table drinking and their children were running around the place screaming, throwing the shuffleboard pucks as hard as they could across the table smashing them into the walls, and screaming their heads off all the while the parents did nothing but down their drinks and encourage wild kingdom. I informed the staff about the bedlam only to be informed that the OWNERS DON'T CARE. So if you would like to go out and dine in a pleasant atmosphere...FLIP and Bailey's is not your place. The closing of the this horrific experience was the variety of prices The outside wall advertisement promoted a bucket of Coors Light for $10.00. The bill came it was now $12.00. A lively bar atmosphere with the typical bar food. We found them on open table and made a reservation but it wasn't really necessary they are pretty informal about how they handle reservations and I got the impression they were more of a novelty then a requirement. We hosted 3 "starving" students from nearby Villanova university and enjoyed the typical bar fare - burgers, wings, ribs, wraps, etc. The students were very satisfied with the food and enjoyed themselves. For me, the food was find but not something special that would make me want to go out of my way to find a parking spot in order to visit again. read more

I like this pub! My husband went to Villanova and used to come here after classes so he introduced this local spot to me a few years ago and we go when we're in the neighborhood. Recently I had to drop my car off for service nearby so my dad picked my daughter and me up and we had lunch at flip and baileys. She was 5 months old at the time so I appreciated the volume of the music (not too quiet) in case she acted up and the waitress was really sweet to her when she would come over to our table. We both got burgers and a couple of beers which were very tasty and perfect bar food. I'll definitely be back. read more

Typical Cheers type local bar. Nice atmosphere if you like walking in like a criminal with everybody looking at you like why are you here and what bank did you rob. Food was lackluster bar food and not special at all just overpriced. If you like your alcohol, you can walk in less than an hour consume 2 shots and one beer as a 120lb. woman, chat everyone up, and get back into your car to drive without anyone batting an eyelash. What's not to love? A great beer selection and a video game and TV in every booth! Flip and Bailey's used to be The Wild Onion and was basically a hang out for Villanova students. It got acquired and remodeled in 2007. They did a good job upgrading it, and it's now a fun place to go either as adults or with kids. On days that Villanova has a game, they have specials that are really good deals. The regular food can be a bit pricey, but it's usually very good. read more

Brand New Ownership... I'll qualify this review: A) I'm a townie (not a college student), and B) I frequent the downstairs bar, rather than the upgraded upstairs bar that got an interesting facelift, but not really any extra seating as far as I can tell. Pros: The staff is friendly, smiling and efficient. The food comes out relatively quickly (which never used to happen before). The draft beer selection has increased, and yes, there really are video game systems and tv's at every table upstairs. Cons: Damn I miss those booths downstairs. I mean, both times I've been there in the last week I've been so heartbroken about the loss of the coziest booths in town. The lighting is bright enough downstairs that I feel like I have to put on makeup to go sit there. I miss the old bartenders that would blast you out with the music of their choice (not much music now, I feel like I have to keep my voice down). Also, can anyone tell me why every "wood" in the bar doesn't match? Mahogany tables, oak floor, walnut bar - it's got no style. read more

I'm shocked the average rating is only three stars to be honest. Moved to Bryn Mawr two years ago and Flips is definitely the first place I take my friends to when visiting. Their food is excellent and very well priced. Typical bar atmosphere and the inevitable entertaining regulars. Wings are the best you can get on or around the Main Line. Beer selection is decent - they always have great seasonal brews on tap. Would highly recommend eating here and hanging here to watch the game. read more

I vacillated whether Flip and Bailey's deserved 2 or 3 stars. My conclusion based on a single visit, 2 stars. A friend and I went about 5PM on a Sunday. We sat downstairs-as it appeared nothing was happening upstairs. About eight people sat at the bar and a party of six had a table. Otherwise that was it. Yet we waited 20 minutes, being ignored by a waitress and the bartender, before we had to ask for a menu. We waited another 5 minutes before we got one. The waitress had about as much interest in us as a mechanic at a fashion show. I ordered a draught and was brought a bottle. I was curtly informed that the draught list wasn't up-to-date when i questioned the bottle, like I should have known it. We ordered wings and nachos. It literally took more than 30 minutes for them to come. Only the party of six (at another table) had ordered any food, and had done so about the time we had sat down. The wings and nachos were just fair. The wings were dry-like they had been cooked hours ahead of time and re-warmed for serving. The nachos were comprised of a pasty meat and bean concoction, melted cheese and canned salsa. Although the waitress's attitude became less frosty as she brought food and inquired about drink refills, she was never in the least bit friendly. read more

Okay let me start with this place should be up for a "Best Burger" award... the Flip & Bailey version (Blue Cheese & Bacon) is the best burger I've had since the Wooden Iron closed in Wayne... the meat was very good, it had plenty of blue cheese and the bun was awesome... the food took a few minutes more than I thought it should, but once it was there... man, that was one great burger!!! I don't know if the chef/cook was just on a roll tonight, so will have to go back for another... but if that was the norm, go get one!! My date had the Club which was noted as a specialty and it was pretty good (but not as good as the, well you know... ;-) Anyway sorry for so much time on the burger, but I try them at many different places and this one stood out... The server was knowledgeable and recommended we not try the home brew, so stuck with Guinness... we sat downstairs at one of the high tops and had a good view of the games... very nice and fairly reasonable... to compare, the new Freehouse in Wayne (went opening night, so have to give it another chance before reviewing) charged $7 for a Guinness, F&B was $5... so better value here... We went around 8p on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet... very nice place. read more

When it was the Wild Onion, it was a five star establishment, either for a quick drink, a meal, a game, or a night out. Now it is an overly self-impressed, underwhelming mess. The food isnt as good, the service isnt as good, the crowd isnt as fun, going for a game isnt even as good. Some things are better left the way they are. The Onion was one of those things. read more

Great food, great bar, and a great atmosphere. This place is definitely a sure-fire location for your dinner plans, whether as an individual, group, family, or party. I've been here many times for different occasions and have never left unsatisfied. The burgers are superb and their service is wonderful. Being so close to Villanova and other local colleges, it does draw a university crowd on occasion, but there are an equal number of families and business professionals who come here after hours as well. A great place to watch sports events, Flip's has huge flatscreen TVs throughout the bar and on the second level, each booth has it's own personal TV with game console. I have visited Flip's for happy hours, graduation parties, get-togethers, after-class beer nights, and family dinners. The food is always a hit and the atmosphere is great. I'd give it 5 stars if the food were spectacular, but as it only really has the typical bar food and nothing is extremely out-of-this-world, it's only a 4. But great nonetheless!! read more

Great selection of brews on tap and a solid bar-food menu make Flip's a neighborhood go-to. Go between 5 and 7 during the week for 1/2 price drafts and appetizers. The appetizer selection has all of the basics- nachos, quesadilas, and wings (ask for them "Sah's way" for an off menu garlic buffalo sauce), but also rare finds like a hummus platter and steamed pork dumplings. Flip's is a restaurant that turns into a bar at around 10, and the food proves it. Go on Tuesday night for trivia, but leave your iPhone in your pocket dammit. read more

For a pub that has a captive audience within the high rent district in the main line, I was very disappointed. We had the turkey Club and fish and chips. Although they get a thumbs up for using real turkey for the sandwich, it was in crumbles- not slices. Felt like it might have been the crumbs left behind from the bird and they didn't know what to do with it. The fish was just ok and the "chips" or French fries were like warm and certainly not fresh. As for cocktails - let's just say, this is s beer place. Overall, just disappointed ..... really not what I expected. read more

So 2 weeks ago was the first time I've been here since it became Flip and Bailey's. I came here on a Sunday to watch the Villanova game and the good deals were 25 cent wings and $1.50 bud lights. Not too bad. Food was pretty good, typical bar food. TV's at every booth was a plus - would be useful for outsiders at a Villanova bar that didn't want to watch a Villanova game I guess. My only complaint was the staff. Yes I understand it was busy, and yes the table by the window ordered 100 wings, but that's no excuse to neglect our table. Although she was attitudy initially, our waitress did have the decency to apologize right before we paid the bill... of course. read more

I have been a regular at this place for the past 4 years every Sunday to watch football since I moved her from out of state. The first two years 2009 and 2010 were awesome. Specials during football, great service and great selection of games. However, the past two years it has really been awful. The first two years we knew the staff and the service was great and we had the same servers every week. This has not been the case the past few years, the turnover is constant and the servers are always knew and not sure what they are doing.We had a bad experience last year but being not people who give up a place after one bad experience we kept flips on our list. However today was the last chance. I will not be there again and the ownership/management clearly doesn't care. If you bill yourself as a sports bar and advertise best selection of games on the mainline then don't book a private party for the room with al the tvs on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of football season. The first time this happened, we were told in the middle of the 4th quarter we had to move outer table where we were all settled with our drinks and stuff. After the experience we suggested to management that perhaps they should put a sign when the games started that there was a private party and the instead of settling in the customers could just go upstairs from the start. Well it happened again today and we were pissed. The staff was really rude about it to. I'm not going to give my $40 a week for 6 months a year Tia. Place that's going to treat their regular customers like that. I'll find another place with Sunday ticket. I'm giving one star but I'm giving zero stars with my wallet and won't be back read more

The first time I went and had a burger I thought it was disgusting but they redeemed themselves during my subsequent visits. Also, the Wednesday night burger deal can't be beat.... This is absolutely the ideal place for our family. 1. GREAT place for kids. Xbox at every individual booth. Pool, shuffleboard, etc. Lots of fun. 2. GREAT specials. Awesome happy hour food and drink specials. 3. GREAT beer selection. Always a good selection of local craft beers in addition to some nice imports on tap. $2.50 per pint during happy hour. The food is good but certainly not great. Nothing special but we've never considered it "bad". Very reasonably priced. Service has always been great for us. This was our first visit. We were warmly welcomed when we walked in and told to sit wherever we felt comfortable and snagged a window seat. A few moments later we were greeted by our waitress who took our drink order. Drinks didn't appear but a agentleman who must have been either the manager or owner took immediate notice and apologized . He let us know our next round was on the house. They really made it up to us. Everyone who walked by was apologetic and made sure we were well taken care of for the rest of our visit. They really recovered! Everyone makes mistakes, it's how you deal with them that matters. I took a risk and ordered a steak...from a bar? Risk paid off! It was the best steak I have had out in a long time! We were looking for a new spot to eat and watch the Phillies game, and came across Flip & Bailey's. We arrived to find NO OTHER PATRONS, but chalked it up to the holiday weekend and that it was still about half and hour before the game started. By the time we left (and having watched other couples come in and leave quickly) we realized this may not have been the only reason it was so empty. The one employee who was bartender/hostess/waitress had an attitude. I'm sorry if she may have been upset to work a holiday weekend or whatever, but a smile wouldn't have been too much to ask. However, I wouldn't give a place a bad rating for that reason. We were seated downstairs, where they had a radio station playing. However, upstairs was another station or a DJ, and the two music sources were competing so neither was clear. They only had 2 of the 3 TVs downstairs on, one on the Phillies game and one on lacrosse - odd to me but not a problem, certainly. The problem was when the bartender/hostess/waitress turned the sound off the Phillies game to turn up the lacrosse game she was watching, even though all the patrons were watching the Phillies game. The appetizer was good, but our sandwiches were bad. The pulled pork panini was dried out and lacked flavor, and the crab cake had shells in it and was served with something that resembled liquidy egg salad instead of the caper aoli listed. The final straw? When I got home and checked my account activity, the bartender/hostess/waitress ran my credit card through twice. I know the second charge will drop off, but that puts twice the amount I actually spent on hold for a week or so, longer with the holiday. We won't be back. read more

Often would go for Quizzo on Wednesday, which is the best in the neighborhood. However, the bar itself is pretty awful. The bouncer always gives us a hard time, even though we're there every week. There is never enough bartenders, and excluding one bartender, they are always very rude and take forever. The waiters have been rude to us and not attentive. Their Wednesday pitcher "deals" are pretty weak, it basically is $3 for a pint of Coors lite. The real reason for this review was that last week when I was there, it was getting late around midnight and a mouse ran all across the floor of the upstairs bar. Really grossed us out. read more

I can't give it a zero! This place is for sale and anyone who buys it is stuck with their lousy rep. The owners are non-existent. I went there on Tuesday night and there were 2 cutomers at the bar and the owners were at the other end of the bar, that was it for patrons. I waited 13 minutes for a drink...and there were two bartenders working! We went back this Thursday. Our app took 19 minutes to get to the table, our second drink took 31 minutes!! WTF? On of our orders came out wrong and instead of making a new one they just scraped off the wrong stuff and added the correct stuff. this place is a craphole!! DO NOT GO TO THIS DIVE!!!! read more

3rd favorite bar during my undergrad years at Villanofun. Used to come here for the live music they had in the upstairs section, this place is a more relaxed bar, from the owners of Kelly's, that caters to a more diverse crowd, locals and students alike can be seen rubbing shoulders. The downstairs area is split into two rooms, one is a narrow corridor where the bar, some tables and the bathrooms are located, while the other side is more of a lounge with coaches and larger televisions. Upstairs has another bar, a floor space that can be used for dancing, never happens. I swear the main line is the only place in the world where you come up behind a girl and try dancing with her and they stop and look at you as if you are a looney person. Huh, your on a dance floor dancing with your girlfriends, if you want to dance by yourself and not have to worry about guys coming up to you why are you at a nightlife venue on the dance floor, just go home and dance in front of your mirror. Any other place the girl either finishes the dance or does the old shimmy shake to let the guy know she doesn't want to dance with him, not just stop and look at you with a face of disgust. Wow, I never knew how much that peeved me off until now. So getting off that unnecessary tangent, this place is a hidden gem when it comes to craft beer, I almost had a mini stroke when I saw that this place had Founders breakfast stout and ithaca flower power, and never of them had kicked. (I almost omitted this part for obviously implications, like I don't want this secret treasure trove being discovered by all the other beer snobs in the area, however for the greater good of manbeerkind it must be proclaimed to the yelpers) read more

I've been to Flips many times, however most of the time it was for a drink. I definitely can't complain about service and I think it's great. I recently had their Bailey Burger for dinner for the first time. Really a surprise how good it was. I was expecting typical main line bar food, which is never too fantastic. However, this burger exceeded my expectations. Although it's not as good as say a Ruby's Diner burger in KOP, I would totally order it again. read more
