I have gone to Michelle a couple of times within the last 6 months and although I love the haircut, the conversation is really uncomfortable. At one point she said I should lose 10 lbs. I have been looking for a new hairdresser for quite a while. I needed someone who can cut curly hair, but I often style it into a straighter style so I needed someone who could cut my hair so I could have both. I found Michelle online and decided to give her a try. I was not disappointed, Michelle did what I asked and made a few suggestions. I loved the color, but realized what I thought I wanted in a cut wasn't working. The next time I went I asked what she might suggest and she showed me a cut in a magazine that she thought would work well for me. I love my new cut and color, Michelle is great to work with and shows you how to style your hair when you get home. She breaks down her pricing and is more than fair. I have found a new salon, finally! Her salon is an interesting place in an upstairs building overlooking Barnes and Noble so you can watch the world go by as you get your hair done. Joanna Haun has been treating my hair better than it has ever been treated for over 10 years! I have followed her all over town- it isn't easy finding a good stylist for crazy curly hairs like mine. Even when I lived in NYC I would wait to come home for her to do my hair; I just don't trust anyone else with my curls. She knows just how to cut and style it, and she is also a master with color. I recently moved to Santa Rosa and was terrified about having to find a new hair stylist. I have been going to the same person in Ohio for 10 years, who sent a little instruction card with my hair color formula on it. Michelle was awesome, she matched my current color to her brand and my hair looks great. She took her time and explained ever step she took. I work weekdays 9-5 and she was very understanding and worked her schedule around mine and made my appointment at night. Michelle is the best colorist I've found. I am ridiculously picky, albeit vain. I have been going to Michelle for 25 years now!! I live in San Francisco and have gone to high end, over priced (as is everything in SF) salons here , and once had it done at famous place in Santa Barbara, but nobody has ever been as good as Michelle. I commute to her! She is incredible! I highly recommend getting cuts from her too. She is very meticulous and precise. This salon denied doing my hair and setting up an appointment due to my hair being "too dark and too curly" without even meeting me in person. My hair was dyed black two years ago and I called to see if it was possible if they could help lift my black to a darker brown color. I am aware this a damaging process but this is also a very common and basic request that is done everyday. The woman who assisted me on the phone was immediately put in a bad mood after I had simply asked her if she could help me with this and she began to go on a long tirade trying to -- in her own words, "educate" me on basic hair biology that 6 year old could grasp, trying to backpetel out of assisting me due to her prejudice. I contacted this salon to get my hair PROFESSIONALLY done so it wouldn't be that damaged. I'm not sure if she is just incompetent at her job and taking the back seat on this, or just plain lazy. If you can't serve someone with "too dark" and "too curly hair" you have just limited your audience drastically, and I will make sure to let all my friends / women in the Sonoma area know that they will not be supported here. read more

I was calling around to get an appointment with other salons and prices sucked and customer service was the worst , then I spoke to Michelle and my gosh the best choice I've ever made with hair dressers. Not only does she do the best job ever she takes what you want and turns it even better than what you expected for yourself, it's seriously amazing how kind and great she is as a stylists. I am nine months pregnant and having a complicated pregnancy. I scheduled an initial appointment as a treat to myself because I've been having such a hard time then completely forgot because of a potential serious issue with the baby. Where I had to rush to the doctor. The lady called me and I apologized sincerely and asked if I could reschedule. She said no and then went on to berate me like a child for wasting her time. Not only was she extremely rude but she expected me to sit through her lecture even when she said she would not schedule me again?! I hung up on her. No compassion and completely unprofessional. Everyone's time is precious and everyone has things going on and shot happens. I looked at her cuts more and it's all older women and outdated looks. Just going to stick to Aveda where I won't be belittled for having a serious issue come up that was more important than a hair cut. read more
