Waste Not Want Not Salvaging is one of those rare organizations that quietly does real, practical…read morework for the community. They help businesses and residents keep usable materials out of the landfill by finding ways to reuse, repair, and redistribute items that still have value. Instead of throwing things away, they connect materials with artists, educators, farms, nonprofits, and people who can actually use them. They also provide supervised community service opportunities and help elderly or overwhelmed residents responsibly clear out and rehome items. The focus is thoughtful, resourceful, and environmentally responsible. It's refreshing to see a small nonprofit solving real waste problems while supporting the local community at the same time. Marin County is lucky to have a group doing this kind of hands-on reuse and salvage work.

I don't have time to try to sell them. When I attempted to offer them for free, I encountered more flakes than I can count. I have some concerns about liability. What happens if I give away a ladder and someone takes a fall? Could I receive any tax deduction since I am giving these items away. I encountered Jesse of Waste Not Want Not and my concerns were immediately quelled. Jesse is conscientious about making sure that items are recycled or rehomed. He offered me a release of liability and offered me a tax-deductible receipt for the 501(c) 3 he runs. Most importantly I can feel good that my parents' items will find their way into the hands of folks who could really benefit from them. I am glad that I can avoid paying storage fees to retain items I don't need while being confident that they will end up in a network of folks who could really use them. Problems solved.

Last year there were 1500 runners. The people at CVNL are always super busy so it is best to just stop by and see them if you want something.

It in itself is poorly organized and if you are just inquiring to get information there is no receptionist and therefor you must guess as to who you want to talk to from a recorded laundry list of names and departments. If you guess wrong you will just have to hope that that person will refer your name to someone there that can help. My suggestion is that they hire someone to organize them before they attempt to help anyone else.

This store is a mid to small size Goodwill with a decent selection. Some of the newer merch was…read morepriced high (19.99 - 24.99) for jeans and cotton jacket, but everything else was normal thrift range. I went on a half-off Saturday and it wasn't too chaotic. There is ample parking in the small shopping center and the donation drop off is in the back/off to the side. While I didn't use the donation center, the employees seemed very friendly and helpful and were greeting and helping all donators. They went out of their way to bring the donation cart to the cars to make the transaction as easy as possible. Will return when in the area.

The experienced has degraded to the point that it's become pointless to visit. The pricing has increased but more remarkably, the quality of items has been significantly reduced, with most of what I see on the shelves and racks being a lot of overpriced crap and ugly clothes. I read on sfgate.com in an article dated March 18, 2026: (Why Bay Area Goodwills are sending truckloads or clothes to Arizona) that a national Goodwill organization took over our Bay Area regional organization so stores are now being run by a Arizona- Maryland multi-state organization. (Some regional Goodwill's are still run independently/locally like the Silicon chapter). While GW has for years sent all local donations to sorting locations local then sent tagged inventory to locations to put on shelves, I suspect that they are now skimming most name-brand and 'like new' goods to sell online and sell in other regions rather than stocking our local stores. One of the regular shoppers at the Fillmore location was quoted that they have noticed that the quality of their location's offerings has been so degraded so much they no longer bother to visit the store, despite previously visiting weekly for years. Thrifting has changed a lot over the past decade, especially due to the number of 'resellers' who buy items to stock 'vintage shops' or sell on EBay, but lately it's lost pretty much all of the appeal to thrift, especially at Goodwill. It's unlikely that I'll continue donating to Good Will in the future and instead will direct my donations to local charity shops where the goods will be more likely to benefit my own community, rather than supporting a huge organization from out of state.
