I highly recommend against FlixBus. Their busses frequently run (very) late, and they don't make any effort to notify customers (no email/text/call). Whats worse is the busses often pick up in dark parking lots without any seating or protection from the elements, so you could be waiting in the rain or in the dark in an unsafe neighborhood waiting for hours. On top of that, there is no phone number you can contact for support, and the online chat support is inhuman. Here's one experience I had with them, as an example: On March 7, 2024, we arrived to the bus station 15 minutes early, per instructions. The bus station was actually a dark, empty parking lot with no seats and no protection from the elements, in a relatively unsafe part of town. This was doubly bad as it was a rainy evening in Austin and there was no covering in the parking lot. After waiting and the departure time passing, we contacted FlixBus only to find out that the bus was delayed more than 45 minutes. FlixBus made no attempt to contact us via email, text, or phone. Had we been notified, we would have waited in our hotel. Instead, we were left waiting in rain in a dark parking lot. As we waited, we watched the ETA online continue to grow to 55+ minutes. FlixBus put us in an unsafe and uncomfortable situation, and we expected a full refund. I have contacted the support team, and they made no apologies for the delay or lack of communication. Instead, they stated that their policy is that refunds are only issued for delays over two hours. I would have been more forgiving if we had received any notice. Airlines, trains, and other transportation providers notify their customers about delays, and FlixBus should be obligated to do so as well. We were not about to wait in the rain in an unsafe neighborhood with all of our luggage for nearly an hour hoping the bus would come. At least when airlines or trains are delayed they notify customers and you are waiting inside in a safe environment. FlixBus customer support was entirely unempathetic and unhelpful, and seemed to have no concern for the safety of their passengers. I highly recommend against such an uncaring company. read more

I was left behind in the rest stop in the middle of the cold winter evening with my luggage still in the bus from LA to San Jose. I had to ask for a ride from a random stranger. Called several times and nobody cared. They even could not let the driver get informed about my luggage. And asking me to wait 14 days for my luggage. 14 days later they said they didnt see my luggage. I am housing a homeless women whom we collecting funds for to go get her children to bring them back home from St Louis MO to Atlanta GA. There was a mistake made in booking the ticket and she ended up with 2 tickets to leave from Atlanta to go to MO. As soon as we saw the mistake we tried to correct it but it wouldn't allow and we tried to cancel and rebook but when that happened they charged a cancellation fee and kept the entire amount booked. She was devastated. We call customer service several times to get help and Flynn or Glenn (however she said it as she refused to spell it) answered EVERYTIME!. She was very rude. We asked for a supervisor she told me they don't have one and that no escalation calls can be transferred. Then i asked her for a number to speak to someone higher than her, she refused to provide and kept talking over me. I had a bus ride today from San Jose to Los Angeles at 12:20p.m, Saturday, January 21st, 2023. I got an email from Flixbus informing me that the boarding location had changed from the original, San Jose Convention Center, to a new one, 415 Auzerais Ave, San Jose 95126. So, I got there early and waited. I waited for ten minutes after 12:20p.m with a couple of people and the bus hasn't arrived. Then, I got word from one of the passenger. He said he tracked the bus through the app and he saw that it stopped at the original location. He drove there and saw the bus waiting there and left a couple of seconds after. I called customer service and managed to reschedule my trip to 11:10p.m (which was the earliest bus ride they could offer.) Went back home, chilled, had dinner, and was ready to head out again. Now, the app says to wait at 415 Auzerais Ave. I was really hoping that, this time, the bus driver would at least be informed. But, I was also skeptical. So, I had a plan. My plan was to go to Auzerais, track my bus through the app, and the second I see it stop at the Convention Center, I'll go straight there and try to catch it then. Guess what? You guessed it. The bus was at the Convention Center again. So, I told my mom to drive quickly to the Convention Center and we saw the bus waiting there when we arrived, but we were stuck at a red light. So, I got off at the light, crossed the street, and ran as fast as I could. As I was getting closer, I saw a girl talking to the bus driver. She was showing her phone to the bus driver. It looked like she was trying to get on board, but the second after, the door to the bus started closing and I ended up chasing the bus, hoping that she would at least see me and stop, but she didn't. So, I went back to the girl and she told me she was begging the bus driver to wait for her friend who was on his way from Auzerais Ave but the bus driver didn't care, and she was also very rude. When her friend arrived, it was the same guy who was supposed to ride with me on my original bus ride at 12:20p.m. I guess this wasn't the perfect day for both of us. She told me she was going to give Flixbus a hell of a review (which I am excited to read) and wished me the best of luck with my journey, which I wished her the same as well. I called customer service again, trying to get a new ticket and catch the 11:50p.m bus. But, the call process was interrupted twice and I didn't manage to get a new ticket in time. I tried explaining to the new bus driver about the situation and asked if he could let me on the bus, but he refused. The bus wasn't even full. So, I called customer service again and they managed to reschedule me to new bus ride at 9:15a.m, Sunday, January 22nd. Hopefully, I get to catch this one. My advice for Flixbus management: Have better communication between you and your bus drivers. IF YOU'RE UPDATING YOUR BUS STATION TO A NEW LOCATION, SPECIFICALLY THE ONE IN SAN JOSE, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE BUS DRIVERS ARE UPDATED AS WELL. You might not think that it's a big deal for us, cause it's just changing a schedule right? NO, SOME PEOPLE HAVE STUFF TO DO AND HAVING THE BUS DRIVERS DITCHING THEM, MESSES WITH THEIR SCHEDULE, WHICH MESSES THEIR LIVES. My grandson took the flexbox from San Diego and it was supposed to be to San Jose California. But when he got to LA the bus driver asked him to leave the bus and because his ticket wasn't to San Jose but we saw his ticket and it was to San Jose California my daughter tried calling the company and they could not do anything for it they have no supervisor. So I definitely do not recommend this company for anyone. We were lucky that we have family in LA and they went and picked him up from the station and now he's going to take a plane home. Flixbus is super cheap. The service fees are low (only $2 per transaction, not per fare like other companies may charge) and if you book early out enough, you can find some great $4.99 fares. The rides themselves, when adhering to schedule, are pretty pleasant and quick. I've only taken the Sacramento to SF round-trip connection, as it makes a stop in Oakland, so my review is reflective of this experience only. Megabus does not stop in Oakland so Flixbus seemed very convenient to me. In my experience the buses have been cleaner and felt newer than other private transit I've utilized before. There are also more stops in general, which are both Flixbus's merit and downfall. If you book a trip from Sac to SF but then realize you need to get off before the bridge, you can just hop off in Oakland. I believe there's also a route that does LA to San Jose to SF to Oakland to Sac, so you get all those cities along the way if needed. However, this also makes the chance of delays way higher, as there are more stops to make, and each consecutive stop becomes more delayed if the one prior is late for any reason. I have taken maybe 50 trips over Flixbux over the past year. I would do the Sac-Oak connection pretty much every weekend. Initially, it was great. Oakland is exactly where I need to be. It's much cheaper than Amtrak, less sketchy than Greyhound, and saves me a BART/Uber to/from the City as I would have to with Megabus. Seemed like an all-around great deal. And for the first 9 months or so, the service was great. Yes, there would be delays here and there, but typically no more than 30 minutes. (For reference, Megabus which seems most similar in service and price to Flixbus, is almost never delayed. I've taken Megabus about 30 times and only had trips that were delayed a handful of times). A few months ago, probably around the beginning of summer 2019, let's say May, I noticed the delays were becoming longer and longer. The longest I'd stuck it out was and hour and a half. Unfortunately, Flixbus's customer service phone number is pretty much nonexistent. They keep you on hold forever, or tell you there are no agents available to help. So if your bus doesn't show up and you want to know where it is, you're out of luck. They do have a bus tracker which in theory is a fantastic idea in terms of figuring out where your bus is geographically at a certain point in time, but it almost never works. I think I've only seen it work for maybe 5 out of the ~50 trips I've taken. And I even have the app. This to me, is the biggest downside to Flixbus's service: the uncertainty. The feeling of standing alone with your luggage on a random sidewalk (not even a proper station with employees you can direct questions to), and wondering "Will my bus be here in 3 minutes or 3 hours?). If they could just be transparent about delays, I could occupy my time with something else. I could go grab a meal or go back home briefly so I don't have to wait in the cold (or worse, the 110°  Sacramento summers). But they aren't. Often, you won't get a text or email about delays (I only do half the time). You have to go on the app or mobile site yourself and check, and often it's only updated AFTER the scheduled departure time. So what's the point? This is problematic for multiple reasons. You aren't just wasting your money on your fare. You're spending additional money to get to your destination another way (for me, it's usually Amtrak which is the most expensive option, $29 one way, because I can't just NOT get home for the night). You're wasting your time waiting at a bus stop for a bus that may never come.  They do technically have a refund policy that you can contact via email form on their website. I've submitted about 10 claims at this point, but only have ever gotten ONE successful refund, ever. And it took about 30 business days to get that response--that's not a typo. 30 BUSINESS DAYS. For these reasons, I cannot in good conscience recommend Flixbus as a company. If you are broke and this is the only method of transportation you can afford for longer distances, then okay, maybe you can risk the delays. If your money is more valuable than your time--sure, give them a shot. But if you require reliability in a transportation service, or don't want to waste your time, or would prefer not to wait in the dark streets of West Oakland for 2 hours with no updates from the app and no way to contact customer service, then absolutely, 100% stay away from Flixbus. You have other options that do have their own advantages and disadvantages (my preference is Megabus, Amtrak, and Greyhound in that order) but at least one thing they all have in common is that their vehicles show up and get you to your destination relatively on time. And at least if Amtrak or Greyhound are delayed, you have a station with food, bathrooms, and employees around to service you, rather than being stranded in alone in a dark street with no notification or direction. read more

This is absolutely the worst transportation experience I've ever had. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AND DON'T BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY ABOUT ANYTHING. Bought a ticket from San Francisco to Reno, was told the busses were new and modern. Wrong: dumpy old bus, with torn seating fabric etc. Was told there would be wifi. Wrong: no wifi, and not only that, the driver has absolutely zero idea why or what to do about it. Told ME to call the company which I did TWICE. Absolutely nothing happenend. Suddenly, we're in downtown Sacramento and the word starts filtering down the aisles of the bus that the company has decide cancel the rest of the ride. Claiming that weather in Reno would not permit the ride, and yet a quick check of the conditions toandin Reno indicate the roads are clear and open. The company won't even refund my fare. I used FlixBus for the first time in March of 2019. I traveled from Las Vegas to Anaheim for a Disneyland Trip. My first experience was practically perfect. I even made a vlog about it which was meant for my friends to see, but it gained 3k in views and became my most active posted video: https://youtu.be/tq8IxRxy2cI So I've attempted twice more to use FlixBus and BOTH TIMES they've changed the booking on me. The timing hasn't been the issue with the change, as it's been within a ten minute window (for example, a 7:15pm pickup was changed to 7:05pm on the same day.) But the part that pisses me off is that I had paid extra to reserve a seat in the FRONT of the bus (larger seats, more leg room and quieter in the front). I was unable to then reserve the same front seats after the reservation had been changed. So I PAID for the better seating, but when FlixBus changed the booking, I was bumped down to general seating with no way to reserve the upgraded seats. LAME. They don't offer refunds: they instead give you a voucher (worth less than you originally paid) to use on a future trip. You can only use one voucher per booking (I currently have several) AND if you upgrade your seating, you have to PAY MORE AGAIN. What good will vouchers do me if I never want to use FlixBus again? They're making money off of THEIR MISTAKES. REALLY frustrating and I will not be using them again. Ever. read more

IWe were forewarned by the low ratings but had more time than money so sent a family member on a red eye from Oakland to LA. Bus broke down and was stranded on side of the freeway coming off the Grapevine for over two hours. Thought "OK-at least we get a refund" but NOOO. Refunds of delays for over two hours only apply to delayed departure times. Not breakdowns en route. One more caveat to keep in mind. t's only fair to add that the return trip did meet schedule though someone was in our traveler's reserved seat at boarding. The trip itself was fine. The bus is fine and clean. I have traveled on Flixbus several times now from Berkeley to the South Bay with no complaints. However, THIS time... Our driver insisted that no one should be sitting in the front row of seats, even though we explained that the Flixbus website enabled passengers to buy the "panoramic" tickets at an additional cost. He eventually allowed the passengers that had purchased the seats to sit there, but he complained, stated he was tired, and generally made passengers feel uneasy about the situation. THIS IS NOT OKAY. Get on the same page with your drivers, Flixbus. Besides this, it's worth the price. You get what you pay for. I guess I am lucky or I have extremely low expectations. I have taken this bus 3x. One time one pick up was under a highway tunnel where homeless people live and they shout at us passengers (near Woz street) the other is the Eastridge loop. I will not book another ride from the Woz street location as it was scary, it's a good thing that I was with someone at that time. Eastridge loop is a safer location if they think about the safety of their passengers in my opinion. My buses going to Anaheim has been on time (give or take 30 -40 minutes) but coming from Anaheim to San Jose has 100% been delayed by an hour -2 hours. I completely understand delays of bus time since I drive so often so I always give myself an allowance of one hour to 2 hours AFTER my departure times, like I said I have low expectations. I usually book the night time bus so I can sleep at night and when I wake up, I'm at my destination, I am the type of person that can sleep anywhere... (Floors in airports. ) But during the break, I had to wake up from my slumber and stretch as they were refueling and said passengers cannot be in the bus at that time. I have not used the restroom so I do not know if it's clean. I have rode Megabus and I feel Flix is cleaner and upholstery is better, if that makes a difference. For $30 when the airfare is $200-$250 one way I'll take it, but if the airfare was $70-100 I would have definitely flown. read more

I've used FlixBus on several occasions And I've had two horrible experiences, the first time I didn't even use their services sent them proof that I didn't because I was on Grey hound, was informed I'd receive a Refund first, which I never did and after continuously following up with them I was told I was going to be given a Voucher which never occurred either. I've utilized FlixBuses services 4 times since then and they all have been pleasant experiences BUT.... On Friday September 13,2019 I purchased a ticket from Victorville, CA to San Francisco, CA. My ticket gave a boarding time of 1:20pm... that bus didn't arrive until 3:45pm, at about 5:40pm we arrived to Los Angeles, Ca where I was to Transfer For my San Francisco bus. I waited and every San Francisco, CA bound bus did not have my booking or confirmation on any of them. I waited until 1:30am to be told that there were no more buses until 7am and to call FlixBus yet again. So From 5:40pm on 9/13/2019, until 7am 9/14/2019 I was forced to stay in this God Awful place where the night life was not too kind, lots of gang members, Drug Addicts, and Homeless and I don't believe I've experienced something so traumatic and frightening in my life. At first the bus arrived late and the tracking bus app wasn't even working. When the bus arrived it was fully occupied and there were no empty seats available. Looks like driver and the operator is scamming and filling the bus in their way without prior reservations. And people like us who paid heavily for reservations are told that there is some mistake by the system and it's overbooked so we cannot provide you any seats. We were traveling with kids and when we called costumer service they said they can refund if we claim. What about the inconvenience for the family with kid's traveling in middle of night and the operator was very rude and unprofessional. THIS IS A SCAM. BEWARE!!!!!. read more

The bus was very clean and on time, and but the charging and USB ports did not work. The bus wifi doesn't appear to be able to connect to the internet generally but can connect to an internal site with free recent movies and games/media. Scheduling and purchasing the ticket was easy on my phone. The bus pickup, transfer, and dropoff locations seemed to be just bus stops and parking lots rather than dedicated stations. The transfer layover was 2 hr 25 min. At the stop, there was an earlier bus that lead to my destination, and the driver suggested that calling customer service to change the ticket to the earlier bus for free and avoid the wait at the layover. I did, and the representative explained the that if you buy a trip with a transfer on a single ticket, you cannot change the second bus after the transfer to a bus that leaves earlier. So at the transfer you have to wait for the later bus that FlixBus's website booked for you, even if there is an earlier bus going to your destination. But if a bus trip is on a separate ticket (ie without a transfer), then it can be changed to an earlier bus for free on the app or website. So it appears that you can change the entire trip for a fee within a few minutes of the departure time, but just not a section, separated by a transfer, of the trip after it has begun. The seat locations numbering which I paid for on the Flixbus website were not always the same as on the actual bus, and was somewhat misleading. On the 2nd bus after the transfer I knew we would be traveling south in the evening with the sun on the west (right) side, and so I wanted to be on the east (left) side of the bus to be in the shade. However, it appears that because the numbering inconsistency between the layout on the website and the actual bus, my seat was on the right (sunny) side. Assigned seating was not enforced on my trips though, so maybe it doesn't make sense to pay for a specific seat. There were a few stops in major cities, but not too many. The bus had a bathroom available in the back (which may be difficult to use on bumpy windy rides). The back of the bus (near the restroom) did not smell as good (though there seemed to be some sort of perfume to improve the smell), but the front smelled clean and fresh. The bus ride on the road was not as smooth as on the Amtrak, and I think Amtrak trains sometimes have more space and tables instead of just seats. I think the quality is better than the grayhound, but not as good as Amtrak. But the price and travel times appeared better than Amtrak. read more

I recently booked a round trip ticket to NYC from Washington, DC to see a taping of the Jimmy Fallon show. This was a lifelong dream gift from my kids -- however, the Omicron variant took all the joy from this occasion. With the COVID-19 Omicron variant raging and the highest number of cases here in the District of Columbia as well as in NYC, my family - like so many others across the region - was significantly impacted with over 9 family members testing positive for COVID in the last 10 days. I opted to cancel my reservation, which was not due to a slight scheduling issue or minor coincidence - it was out of necessity to prevent the further spread of the COVID virus. I requested a cash refund because the future of this virus is still quite unpredictable and I cannot be certain that we will ever feel comfortable traveling by bus or train. I am the caregiver for my 90 yr old dad and would not want to put him in any unnecessary danger. I was offered a trip voucher which would be useless to me. I understand the company's refund policy but, was really hoping that the company would show some compassion during a global pandemic and grant an exception. I just had a great experience with Flixbus this weekend (SJ to LA). The bus arrived at Eastridge mall 15 min earlier, and left on time. We got to LA downtown right on time. It would be 20 min earlier if not for the road work. Last year, I had two trips with them, and the experience was not so good (one 3 star for 40 min late, and another one 1 star for 1.5 hour late and left us un-informed). Hope this time is an improvement, not a hit and miss thing. BTW, I paid $9.99 for the one-way ticket, can't beat that! read more

In response to the comment below left by Daniel H of FlixBus i tell every potential customer to BEWARE of using FlixBus their process for booking using the app is flawed. They expect you to read the fine print, they expect you to do so many additional steps just to reach your destination. Their practice is to make the process so confusing that you'll miss something along the way and purchase additional tickets. Their comment on my review doesn't grant any changes as to my negative opinion of their services. I've also messaged several of the other negative reviewers and not one of them was satisfied with the result David H. has given in place of their disappointing travels with FlixBus. So their claim as to having satisfied customers is bogus even a few friends and family of mine that have since used their services have told me they will never use FlixBus again! The first time I used FlixBus was great! Quick and easy traveling. The second time I used it, I was waiting in the rain in San Francisco, and it didn't show up for two hours! No one communicated to us that there had been delays even when I called the customer service three separate times. I ended up giving up and went home. When I requested a refund all they did was give me credit for future trips. Then, the next time I used it it didn't show up for an hour and a half, again with no notice of delays. Finally after calling twice, we got an email saying it was delayed and it showed up. Conditions on the bus weren't ideal either. It was extremely hot inside and the bus driver was quite rude. I think FlixBus has potential to be an amazing experience! They need better organization, tracking of buses, and communication with travelers. read more

The first time I took this bus was fine everything went smoothly and I got to my destination. But the second time my bus never showed up. I kept tracking it because I thought it was late because of traffic but it just ended up not coming to the pick up location. I waited an hour just to be left behind. read more

I went online and determined that FlixBus runs between Santa Maria, CA and San Luis Obispo, CA. Apparently it's in Santa Maria at 11:00 a.m. but it's a medium size city and no where on the site does it tell you the pick up location and I needed to know that before I booked. Would have called and asked but oops, there's no phone number. read more

Horrible company and their customer service is the worst. Who knows where their customer service is located. They did nothing to try to help me. The bus stop was not marked and I missed the bus. Customer service said it was my fault and there was no refunds or rebooking. They gave no options and were dismissive and rude. read more

This service made the DMV look like pushovers. I wish I could give this negative stars. I've never met anyone looking so intently for a fight as much as the bus lady for my ride. The lady bus driver was talking to herself the whole time and threatened to call the cops on me twice for 1)having my ringtone go off and 2)for asking her why she needed to see ID. I think she was on drugs. I only know her name is Mariah cuz she was still mumbling to herself when I passed by her in the bathroom line. Like she was mumbling THE WHOLE RIDE and would randomly start yelling "you best believe" and " I wish they would" and go right back to mumbling to herself. She was driving so crazy that cars on the side of the rode were honking at her multiple times. I tried to sleep the ride off and ignore this hellish show but she was driving so terribly and jerking it kept shaking me. We were hours late to our destination and luckily I didn't have any connections to other transit or I'd be deserted. Speaking of desertion she even left someone who got there just before everyone boarded! Instead of waiting she intentionally tried to avoid him and rushed off while he was getting his bags out of his car! I felt scared the whole bus ride cuz I thought she was going to kill us. What sucks is that I've taken this service many times before with little to no problem. That ride was straight up torture and I was just praying I'd get home safe. Please don't take this until they at least fire that chick it's a safety hazard. If a crazy person gets on the bus and she dukes it out with them all passengers are in the zone of fire. At least don't bring kids cuz I have no doubt that she wouldn't punch your kid in the face and then call cops and act like she's the victim. read more

The ads made me think this would be a more luxury experience than Megabus but not so :( The driver very rudely barked questions and me and the child in my care, then gave no information about anything. The seats are cramped and the bus stops every 10 minutes on the 101 the whole way. Maybe if you live in San Jose and need to go somewhere on the 101 this makes sense but I won't take FlixBus from Oakland again. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I depend on FlixBus to commute to work on a weekly basis because it's cheaper than the train and megabus doesn't have the routes I need. However, there are consistent hour delays without warning. I have tied to recommend this service to my friends and family and have been disappointed when they are forced to wait an hour in the cold for the bus. Not only are the bus stops in sketchy freeway underpasses, by the company can't even keep track of their own busses. Not only is the concerning if there were to be an emergency but they don't give passengers a heads up as to if they should arrive later. On top of this they will only refund you if they are 2 hours late!! Terrible customer service and unreliable busses. I will continue to use flixbus because I can't afford the train but if you have the choice use alternative transportation! Not worth the stress. Terribly managed company. read more
