It's an old instrument that I got for free off craigslist, nothing special, but he applied the kind of care that I would hope to see for a truly high quality instrument. He was amiable, clearly knowledgeable in his craft, and patient with my many questions as I looked over his shoulder. It was done in under two hours and would have been faster without my frequent interruptions, but the really incredible thing is how good the piano sounds now. I second the Eathan is awesome comment. Before Eathan came and tuned my piano, playing the piano made me cringe. Now that Eathan came and tuned it, the only thing that will make me cringe is my lack of talent, not the piano itself. He went the extra mile on my piano, and made sure the piano was in tune with the universe (i.e. concert pitch), and not just in tune with itself. Isaac has been doing a great job over the last few months helping us reclaim a badly neglected piano that we rescued. The first piano technician who came to tune it told us we needed all new pins (at a cost of $750). Since that was more than I felt I could reasonably spend, I called the FPF for a second opinion. So glad I did! Isaac has been gently bringing the instrument up to concert pitch, no pin replacement necessary so far. He explains everything he does and the piano gets better and better. So grateful for these guys. Had a piano tuner come check out free piano from Craigslist in January and he told me it basically wasn't worth tuning/repairing - which seemed silly, since all I wanted it to do was play in basic pitch for me to practice scales in my home, but after that I postponed calling another tuner for six months because I didn't want to receive the same bad news twice. Enter Mike from Floating Piano Factory! First of all when I called, the voicemail very helpfully pointed me to the website and their super easy and convenient online appointment scheduler. Booked Mike for the next day (a Sunday afternoon), he was prompt, so professional and friendly, and tuned my piano that had been sitting there unplayable for six months!!! It ended up needing a pitch raise, a few repairs, in addition to tuning, but Mike was really forthright about what I needed to get it in basic condition, and honest that it would probably need a few more tunings this year to "nurse it back to health." But the price for that original session was reasonable and I will definitely call him again in a few months when it needs another look. So grateful to have found "my piano guys" in the city. The piano hadn't been tuned in, I don't know, probably 10 years. Eathan was able to get it back in shape. Not only did he tune it, he also raised it a full concert pitch (yes, it was full half step out of tune), and didn't break a string. He explained raising the pitch on a piano like this could risk breaking a string or two, but he did it, with no string breakage. Eathan is wonderful. Very communicative with scheduling. Eathan has tuned my piano twice now, and he is wonderful. I cannot say enough good things. Seriously. He spends the time to really get the piano to concert pitch and is patient while doing it. The piano tuner I used before Eathan seemed very frustrated and impatient while working and it was distracting (I work at home). Yes, I usually need a pitch raise because I wait too long between tunings (about a year and a half), but still, it's much more pleasant to have a calm, patient, positive-seeming piano tuner (like Eathan), rather than one who isn't like that. Bimol and Daniel installed a Dampp Chaser humidity control system on my 1929 Steinway Model L after I bought it this year, and it's worked flawlessly from the start. They offered efficient but thorough instructions on how to keep it in top shape. Since then, Bimol has been back several times for tunings and to help with a few issues that inevitably arise with an old piano. The instrument always sounds exquisite when he's done with it. I was recently given an upright piano as a gift, but it hasn't been touched in years. It sounded disgusting, and some of the keys were stuck. After a lot of research I came across Floating Piano Factory. I was originally planning on going with Eathan, but his schedule didn't fit with mine. That's when i saw Isaac, and boy was this the best choice i have ever made in my life!!!. Isaac was AMAZING!. He was very nice, well mannered, courteous, honest, hard working, and funny. He Explained everything to me with the utmost care and patience. He was very generous about the price also. He saw my garbage of a piano and said he will have to charge an extra $30 for a pitch raise and even asked me if i was okay with it and everything. He then began his four hours of tedious hard work while explaining everything to me step by step in the meantime. He even fixed some keys that were stuck in my piano! He kept me entertained and i felt really comfortable around him. He even wanted to stay and play piano with me after he finished, but he was on a tight schedule. My piano sounds like a $200,000 acoustic concert grand piano. The sound is so much richer and you cannot beat the PRICE! ($130). It was a pleasure to work with Isaac and i will be looking forward to my next piano tuning with him! Some good advice: If you are going to buy a used piano, have a professional technician along to give you an assessment. Buying a used piano is very complicated and really should not be done without a professional to keep you from buying a 300lb pile of 'dead wood'. Had Isaac of Floating Piano Factory conduct a assessment of a piano found on Craigslist. He thoroughly looked 'under the hood' of the piano I found by taking the panels off and closely observed all critical components (and there are many!). He talked me through what he was doing, identified required repairs, and provided an estimate of $ to bring up to working order. Last night, after much too long, I sat down and played my piano and enjoyed it! I had neglected my piano and recently decided to have it tuned. After a quick on-line search I found the Floating Piano Factory (FPF) and was impressed by all the positive reviews. Well, those great reviews are totally merited, my experience with FPF was excellent. Their website is very clear and includes pricing, services and scheduling, all easy to navigate. Based on the bios of the piano tuners, I scheduled an appointment with Daniel and received a confirmation with all the pertinent information as to what to expect (how long it would take, how to prepare, how to pay.) Daniel arrived exactly at the scheduled time, introduced himself and got right to work on my older Sohmer. He took his time and analyzed what was needed, discussed it with me, and continued with the work. I appreciated how he didn't push services on me, but rather made suggestions for things to consider in the future. Daniel worked hard while he was there, he took his time and meticulously worked his way through each key. I could hear the improvements with each pass as he both tuned and performed a pitch raise. I forgot how much I enjoyed playing the piano, for some reason now that the piano is back in tune, I feel as if I play better. I am able to anticipate the next note, rather than having to read it from the music sheet. Daniel gave that back to me - thank you! Isaac was awesome. He was responsive, sent a confirmation and arrived on time. I found an orphaned 1970's Baldwin spinet upright out on the street and noted the hardware was in good condition, so I took it home (with the help of a dolly and a champion neighbor). The piano was about a whole step low, which is a huge deal. Isaac took the time to walk me through those challenges (i.e. strings could easily break) and worked really hard for the next few hours bringing it up to pitch. He did not break a single string and the piano sounds great. The pricing was extremely reasonable, and I had no problem giving a 20% tip and still feeling like I came out on top. Daniel was great - very responsive, conscientious, and we felt comfortable having him in our home. We have a Baldwin upright piano that needed to be tuned, its pitch changed and a problem with some keys sticking intermittently. Daniel was picked for the job and when he got to our house he immediately went to work on the piano to tune and change the pitch. Once that was done he started working on the sticking keys, but they were very challenging to fix as the problem would come and go. Daniel fixed the problem but mentioned they might come back again. Several days after he left, new keys started to stick intermittently so we called him back. He tried several additional means to correct this problem and even face-timed with his superiors to get their advice. I was really impressed with his diligence to do whatever it took to fix this problem and ultimately he did resolve the sticking keys problem. We would gladly have Daniel back to work on our piano in the future. read more

I never write online reviews, but this place is so fantastic I had to. After another piano repair person told me my problems were so bad I'd have to get a new one, I made an appointment. The apprentice came twice did as much as he could to fix some of the problems on my old grand piano. I live in the Bronx and they were fine with that.
