4.5-stars for quality of work and craftsmanship, 1-star for customer service and communication,…read moreaverages out to 3-star rating. Donald is a passionate man with a lot of years of experience and he is one of the best refinishers in WNY. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience working with him. He refinished my floors and reglazed/cleaned up a really decrepit bathroom, which the previous homeowner left covered in literal crap and feces. He did all this within a day of the time he said he would, so his craftsman and quality of work are a solid 4.5-stars. He can literally transform your old tiles in your bathroom and make them look brand new with a different color saving you money from ripping your tiles out and installing new ones. He can do one of the best floor jobs in the area as far as sanding goes, although not without imperfections (but he would probably be upset at you if you pointed them out). However, our relationship fell apart when at the end of the job he asked for $450 more than what he quoted on paper because of the excellent work he did. He claimed he would be "really disappointed" if he didn't get paid that extra $450 and practically tried to emotionally bully me into doing so, going as far as threatening not to work on another project for my wife that he already previously discussed with her. I ended up paying him $300 over the quote and I don't even think he was happy about that. Not once throughout the job did he call and say it would be more. We did talk about some extras like some simple shoe molding, but he said it wouldn't be more than "300 max" and then asked for 450 more without putting the shoe molding on (because I told him not to at the beginning of the job). I think we had a misunderstanding and miscommunication, because when I told him not to put the shoe molding in--I assumed that the job would cost the amount he quoted on paper. I wouldn't have minded paying him if he communicated throughout the job that it would be extra to put some transitional pieces of wood in. To his credit, he did put a super nice transitional piece of beautiful wood to cover the transition from tile to staircase and did an incredible job with it and the pieces from staircase to living room. Those were honestly worth the extra $$$, but it's just the lack of communication that had me upset and then the unwillingness to listen to the customer. He went as far as hanging up on me when I tried to discuss it with him. So overall, if you can put up with a temperamental artist - Donald is your man because he does beautiful work, but he's not that great at the customer-facing side of the business.

(I would have written my review sooner but we only recently moved in.) The price was very fair and their work was meticulous. The way they masked off everything surrounding the tubs was most impressive. Don promised that the non-slip bottom surfaces of the tubs would not be gritty or scratchy and he was true to his word. Thank you gentlemen for your dedication to detail!

I also wanted to make sure that my location was not a problem for him since I am a distance away. He indicated that he travels all over and that would not be a problem. We agreed on a price per sq. ft and then a day to start. On day 1 of the project there was little in the way of a greeting upon arrival. It was constant complaining about how long the drive was, how much gas be probably used, how many cars he had to pass, how many tractor trailers got in his way. This occurred each morning upon his arrival. As soon as he walked into my house and looked at the floors they were instantly a problem. They were supposedly coated with something special and it would take all of this extra work and supplies in order to do the job. Without much further explaining he indicated it would be an extra $500 for it to be worth it for him to do the job. Knowing little about hardwood floors and their finishes I agreed. He proceeded to get to work and I left. By noon I checked the security cameras and noticed that his van was gone and the door was closed. Around 1-2pm in the afternoon I received a text from him: "floor definitely a bitch to sand but I made good progress today." When I returned home, the entire area was all sanded (~800sqft). Seems like this was a quick job for these "difficult floors". I brought to his attention that there was a landing that was not done (mentioned in the original call and on day 1). He said that he didn't think it needed to be done and if it was his house, he wouldn't do it (the previous finish was flaking from sun damage). Ultimately, this was completed. On the third day of the project, I needed to point out that during the sanding he has scratched the lower cabinets and my $1000+ dishwasher by apparently dragging the sander along them. When looking at the cabinets he just kept saying that he couldn't figure out what could have done that. When I showed him the dishwasher scratches he got down and started rubbing them with his hand not saying anything. He then gets up and walks into the living room examining the floors. I asked him if we could discuss the scratches, he threw his hands up in the air and said "if you're not paying me, I'm outa here." Diffusing the situation, I said we could discuss it later and said that I never indicated I was not going to pay him. At this point, I wanted to discuss a transition piece that I wanted a darker color than the rest of the floors (how it originally was). He again said that if it was his house, he would leave it. I indicated that this was something that needed to be done. He agreed and went to get some darker stain so I could approve before leaving. As he was applying the painter's tape on the border it became wrinkled and he started to pull part of it up and re-position it. When the tape didn't stick, he ripped it off the floor in a bit of rage and stomped out of the house swearing how its cheap and costs to much and its shitty tape. On the fourth day (final sand and polyurethane) he shows up and as soon as he steps into the house, he lost his mind. He had a total breakdown that the floors were still tacky and he couldn't sand them. He went on for quite some time swearing, complaining about the job and how it was costing him money. He ripped off his knee pads, opened the garage door and threw them, slammed the door and proceeded to get his sander from the kitchen and he walked out and left. All the while I didn't say a word and I didn't know if he was coming back or not. Later that afternoon he texted me apologizing for his behavior and blamed it on family problems and he wanted to negotiate a cash price (I'm assuming was his way of compensating me for the damaged dishwasher? Seems very convenient for him.) I responded that I was far from happy with the entire situation and that cash is not an option and that I will be replacing the front panel of my dishwasher. He then calls me upset asking what we are going to do about this situation and then says he doesn't know what my issue is with the dishwasher, I'm just too "picky." He says that he showed the picture of the scratches to some of his buddies, and they don't know what the big deal is. I explained that he was hired into my home and damaged my property. Something needs to be done. On the final day (still final sand and polyurethane) he shows up fairly subdued. I ask him who to make the check out to and he says to him, not the company. He then asks who my bank is. When I tell him he says "where the hell is that?" I say that its not a local bank. "Great, guess I wont get paid til Tuesday!" and stomps out the door mumbling and says "this job just keeps costing me!" I reluctantly left (thankful for my security system and cameras). As soon as I next check the cameras ONE HOUR la
