After kitchen pipes were replaced in a slab subfloor, the trench was filled with concrete. We selected a click lock tile from Flooring Surfaces. Alan did an extraordinary job of leveling and installation, going beyond what was requested in trimming around a water heater and tiling into laundry and closet areas. We got numerous estimates from different companies and none stacked up to the customer service from Kai and Rhonda. We appreciate the seamless no messing around process. Carpet turned out great. Very pleased with my experience! I went into showroom knowing exactly what I wanted. The sales associate showed me exactly what I was looking for and did not insult me by trying waste my time with other things. Time is my enemy and I was on an extremely tight schedule. He let me know what they had in stock, ready to go and gave me a realistic picture of the installation process. The installers were prompt and showed up exactly on time. I have worked with Flooring Surfaces on multiple jobs in the last 3 years. First experience was on carpet replacement for a fraternity on U of I campus. Worked with Lynn who is now retired. She was helpful in making an appropriate material selection and was flexible in scheduling installation. Installation crew worked efficiently and cleanly removing old carpet and adding new. They took extra care to level out seams in our sub-floor that caused us issues with the old carpet. 2nd job was on a bathroom floor tile installation a year later in the same building. Worked with Callen and Kai to discuss the water proofing details to solve our water issues outside of the shower stalls. They listened to specific design requests I had and implemented them exactly as we agreed. Installation was very clean and professional and solved our water issues completely. 3rd job was a DIY tile project on two bathrooms. I had priced subway tile and wood plank porcelain at other tile providers around town, including the big box stores, but Flooring Surfaces offered better pricing than other pro stores and had much better selection and quality than the big box stores. They also offer great value in being a Schluter systems dealer for water proofing and metal edge profiles. I was able to purchase thinset and necessary Schluter materials directly from them with the tile. read more

This rating is based solely on my only shopping experience there. An employee asked what I was looking for but often tried to steer me toward other colors and styles. The same person asked twice if I was working with anyone. I found a small sample of something I thought might work and asked if a larger sample could be ordered, but it sounded as though it might be difficult for some reason. I didn't stay at Flooring Surfaces very long, felt almost relieved to go, went to another place, and almost immediately saw a large sample of what I had asked about at Flooring Surfaces. The employee at the other place was very helpful without being pushy, and I found a few good options. I know nothing about Flooring Surfaces' prices, installation, or customer service overall but didn't feel very comfortable there. read more

Had new carpet and wood floors put in my house. The sales rep was very helpful. I chose my wood floor and she showed me another from a different company that was exactly like it that was on sale for half the price. Same with the carpet. She explained why the more expensive one might not be practical with four grandkids playing with toys on it. How many businesses steer people to less expensive when they can? I was uncertain about having the work done at first and she was very patient and let me take my time. No pressure to commit. I appreciated that. When I did commit, she scheduled the installation promptly. The installers were professional and personable. The work was completed as promised and the results are very nice. Family and friends have commented on how the new floors accentuate the decor and look amazing. The carpet is so comfortable to sit on the floor. I knocked over a potted plant I'd just watered and the water just sat atop the carpet and wiped off so easily. The sales rep answered questions about floor care for the wood floors (products, process) and I followed her instructions with great results. She was always available throughout the entire process and afterwards. Very knowledgable and personable. I would not hesitate to recommend this business to anyone looking into new flooring. read more

While the selection and sales were good for us, installation was NOT. Lynn was a very attentive and sincere salesperson and got us all the samples we needed to be confident with our choice of solid hardwood flooring. However, when it came to installation of this large job, the crew, while competent, was being pushed so hard by boss Kevin Appleby that they just couldn't possibly do a careful, clean job. They didn't even use the correct color putty to patch nail holes because they couldn't take the time to go out and get it -- had another (commercial) job they had to get to the next day. They were working so fast that they didn't notice that the pieces coming out of some of the boxes were a different wood (which has since sarted to crack). When we noticed the discrepancy, they had to call boss Kevin to come over and he had no interest in making it right. He made us feel like overly demanding customers who don't understand the product. They agreed to pull a handful of boards but left us with a bedroom with clearly two kinds of wood in the floor. STAY AWAY from hardwood flooring at Flooring Surfaces. read more

I had to write to say what incredible customer service I have received from Gary Gady at Flooring Services in Champaign. Flooring Surfaces was recommended to me by my contractor for the tile for two showers and two bathroom floors in a home renovation. Since we bought our countertops out of town, every time we picked tiles we thought might work we had to borrow samples and drive an hour and a half to see how they looked with our countertops. Often we found that they didn't work and then we were back at Flooring Surfaces looking for something new to try. Gary was incredibly patient with us, going above and beyond to order full-size samples of tiles that were not available in the store so that we could see what they might look like with our countertops. He also talked to a tile rep to get answers to questions we had about whether certain tiles might be too slippery for bathroom floors. Gary was never the least bit pushy though he deserved to be after all of his time that we took. Because of this excellent customer service we wouldn't even consider buying our tile anywhere else. I know some people look locally and then try to buy cheaper online, but we found the prices at Flooring Surfaces to be very competitive, plus we know that if we have any problems we have good people to help us work them out. read more
