My husband and I visited this historic establishment for a nice dinner out on New Years Eve. We didn't want to travel far, so this being 15 minutes from home made it the perfect location. Located in downtown Germantown, the only parking is on street, but ample. This beautiful hotel is appealing on first arrival. When you open the front door and step inside, space is quite limited as the hostess stand is directly inside the front door and located between two dining rooms. Behind the hostess stand is a grand staircase. Made of beautiful walnut, the craftsmanship is fabulous. The junk sitting on the steps, like the Lysol wipes,took away from the ambience and appreciation for the feature. We were promptly greeted and seated, no complaints there. We were seated in the dining room to the left of the front door. The back of the dining room featured a large television and a nicely stocked bar, at least upon glance. We didn't order drinks, so I cannot say for certain. Our server came and my husband asked for a particular beer, the server was clearly lacking in knowledge regarding the spirits and indicated he would have to ask if they had it. Then, he proceeded to say he had never heard of it. Before he left our table I located a bar menu and determined that they did not carry the beer. They had about a dozen beers to choose from though, and that seems like a good selection for such a small establishment. We ordered the Bavarian pretzel sticks with beer cheese for an appetizer, followed by a house salad, baked potato, and petit filet mignon for myself and a Caesar salad, french fries and the New York strip for my husband. I ordered my house salad without tomato because I am allergic. I got a plate of lettuce with one piece of of onion and one slice of cucumber. Other than that, it was good. My steak was slightly overcooked but close enough. It was tender but was lacking in flavor. The baked potato was small and the skin was so tough I couldn't cut through it with a steak knife. I also thought it was a bit ridiculous that they charge me for the sour cream that I got on my potato. My husband said his steak was a bit tough, but also lacking in flavor. The French fries were good and the salad was okay but nothing wowed is. I have said a lot of negative things, and before you ask, we did let our server know and didn't even get an apology. He just told us they weren't a steakhouse and we should try something different next time. Despite that, I will say everyone was very friendly. Sadly, we wanted to love this place but don't think we will be going back. read more

I have only been in here a few times. Restaurant has changed ownership a few times over the last 20 years. Stopped in the other day and was very impressed at the craft beer selections that they have. I believe 11-12 on tap. Plenty of signature cocktails. I had a Woodford old fashioned that was excellent. I didn't eat but they specialize in steak and chops including a 20oz plus monster steak that you can order. The vibe is historical. Friendly owner. I'll definitely try a steak next time I am in Germantown. read more

I expected a lot better. Went for lunch expecting a dining room in an old hotel. Discovered a bar with the usual bar food. Cool room, if you ignore the bar itself. Had a burger, ok meat was good, but the bun was definitely stale. No sides. $8.99. $3 off for the stale bun. The table behind me had not been cleared from the previous occupants. My husband had the stuffed potato skins. I had the crudites with hummus plate. Nothing to rave about. The place is really old and could use some updating. Kind of depressing inside because of being so dark. I will say the bar is very nice. And we were the only ones in there until another party of four finally showed up. Our family stopped here for lunch today and everything was exceptional. Our waitress was extremely attentive and informative. We got the gigantic pretzel that we all devoured. My husband got the Philly cheesesteak and said it's the best one he has had outside of Philadelphia. I got the Southern Burger and the pimento cheese with jam was delicious. Our eldest enjoyed the chicken sandwich and other two kids loved their kids meals. We would highly recommended this restaurant to anyone! read more

I guess small town hospitality equates to making customers sit for 40 minutes before taking their orders. Literally, we didn't even get water for 40 minutes. We witnessed an extremely rude owner/manager treat both customers and and employees with extreme disrespect. It almost appeared like he was drunk. It's amazing anyone sticks around to work there. After apologies from a very sweet server for the slow service we decided to stick it out. Big mistake! After waiting another 30 minutes for our orders to be prepped, the meat was dry, the sides tasteless, and most items were ridiculously overpriced. Before writing this review, I read the owner's responses to other bad reviews. CLEARLY, he has no idea how to run a service based business. I honestly feel sorry for the employees, and I'm sure they aren't laughing. If they are rolling their eyes, it's because they have to work for such an unprofessional human being. The responses to reviews are unapologetic, brash, entitled, and rude. Read them for yourself. This place has potential, but the management needs a serious lesson in basic customer service, basic leadership, and basic humility. We will not be back. read more

Quant historical building ... 2nd oldest inn in Ohio. This restaurant has chanel owners a few times since I last visited and seems like they gave made good changes. They recently started sunday brunch .. I gather they noted that on Facebook but hadn't on their website. ..so might want to call and confirm before driving over. By husband had the biscuits and gravy ..hash browns ..Loved it but request hash browns crispy. I had the western omlete ..fruit and side of bacon. I'm not sure if I should give a review. After all, other than a glass of lukewarm water with no ice, I actually didn't consume anything while I was there on Friday night. I will try keep my review of my 45 minute visit as brief as possible. I had made reservations to celebrate my mother's 87th birthday while I was visiting from Illinois. As our trip took longer than anticipated, I called the restaurant about an hour before our reservation time and advised that we were going to be about 15 minutes late. The voice on the phone advised that this accomodation could be made without any problem. Once we arrived an hour later, we found that no table for 5 had been saved for us. There ensued an argument between the bartender and the greeter as to who had screwed up on the restaurant's part, directly in front of our party and without an apology from either. Ultimately we were put into an adjoining room where a large party was finishing up. The greeter advised he would be back shortly with waters and to take our drink order. When he came back about 10 minutes later, he joked - "did you wonder if I was coming back?" We received the waters and then absolutely no further service for another half hour. No promised drink order was taken and certainly no food orders were completed. A waitress at a nearby table did stop by to let us know - "I'll get to you when I can." She came to check on the other table twice more during that half hour but without any comment or even glance toward ours. We left at the 45 minute mark. I recommend the tepid water. read more

Florentine has been our go-to restaurant for Thanksgiving for the last 3-4 years. Today we went and were extremely disappointed. What used to be a wonderful buffet was pretty bad. No turkey, mashed potatoes, or rolls were out until I asked about them. There was no butter for the rolls once they arrived. Green beans and mashed potatoes, when they arrived, had no salt. Everything was cold---even the room! (67°) I had to ask for pumpkin pie, which didn't even have whipped cream on it! We weren't served or even asked if we wanted water. I had to go to another table for salt and pepper... The list goes on and on. I understand the place has new ownership, but they need to get it together if they are going to survive! I was so disappointed because I truly looked forward to going there every year for Thanksgiving. I guess we will need to find another place for next Thanksgiving. read more

We visited for the 1st time today and drove 45 minutes to try some place new. The atmosphere was quaint and the staff (Christopher and Page) were very friendly and accommodating. That being said, the food was extremely underwhelming and was not the quality we expected for the price we paid. (RIBS):$24.95 AND (FILET TIPS):$29.95. Our meal with a tip was $110.00 and even though Our server (Christopher) listened to our complaints and shared with management, we got no response from management except a bill for the total amount. We came to visit Germantown from Indiana last night. We found the Florentine and did not disappoint!!!! The food was amazing!!!! Our server I believe was Kaylie was amazing!!! We will be back in a few weeks and have planned to stop in again!!!! We recommend in the inside out potato skins!!! The New York was fabulous and probably the best carrot cake which I ate for breakfast this was the best I have had in a very long time!!! Thank you we had a great experience!!! read more

Im still giving a 5 star as Dinner is always fantastic and service on point!! Our Server/Bartender took a bit of warming up but was very cordial and pleasant after we "Proved ourselves worthy" LMAO, Which im ok with. Now "The Breakfast"... Our first and last experience. Bacon... luke warm and obviously came from a steam table. Pancakes were disturbingly uniform an so cold they couldn't even warm up the butter pates that were placed on them. Guessing steam table also. NOW.. The Eggs, Over medium and PERFECT... Used the pancakes to mop up the yolk. If I came for a perfectly fried egg... great but everything else was a disappointment. We haven't been to the Florentine in 15 + years and we're very pleasantly surprised. The Old Fashioned started the evening off right with its fabulous flavor. MUST EAT HERE! Came to visit some family and wanted a bit of comfort food, Florentine Restaurant delivered! Game was on, booze was flowing and the food was unbelievable. Feels very much family owned, they invited us back tomorrow at the same time (love love love good folks!) Table ordered a little bit of everything, if you get the fish be sure to ask for the tartar sauce which is believe is house made. Most of our group was disappointed with the quality of the food from this once fine restaurant. I had the meatloaf dinner which tasted like baked hamburger with few spices and ketchup pour on after plating. The potato salad and cole slaw were mediocre at best. My spouse got Onion Soup and a house salad. She said the salad was so lump that she couldn't pick it up with a fork. We both had the onion soup and it tasted so bad that we couldn't eat all of it. My sister ordered the beef tip dinner and said the mashed potatoes tasted bad and the beef tip dinner was mostly mushrooms. My sister's business partner ordered the salmon and she said it was delicious and she would eat there again. That accounts for the second star. We other three however said we would not return. This restaurant used to be one of the finest in the area - so sad. read more

Our only daughter is in South America this year, so rather than make a Thanksgiving feast for just ourselves we decided to eat out. Getting a reservation even 3 weeks in advance proved challenging; but after some juggling we managed to get a table at The Florentine. Glad we did. The buffet was traditional, tasty, and plentiful including not only turkey, but meatloaf and ham as well. What made the event so special was the wonderful people who took care of us. For the owner and his wife, clearly serving their guests and helping them feel like family is their passion. At the end of the meal I saw that they served a specialty drink that intrigued me and asked what was in it. "Champagne and Magic" I was told. Well, how can anyone pass up a chance to try that? The bill arrived and shortly after so did my Fresh Rain, on the house. Nearly brought me to tears because I could see and feel all the hard work and caring that these folks put into their offerings. We are planning a return trip to check our their special Florentine burgers in the not too distant future. And to have some more down home fun. read more

Attended the Thanksgiving Buffet. The food was plentiful and fresh. The owners are playing to much to the history of the inn being the second oldest in Ohio and not doing any updating at all. Place is cramped, dark and a bit dirty. They should use some of the profits of the $30 a head for the meal and fix the exposed wiring and the lights that flickered during our entire meal. I would not suggest dining here due to the food quality. The steaks are good, but everything else was just ugh. The people are extremely nice. The place is very cool/historical. We had fried green tomatoes (not impressed), spinach dip (just cream cheese and spinach), steaks (actually really good), potatoes (some of us had baked, some fried and some french fries they all were old tasting and not seasoned, salads (good with gfs cheese if you order cheese), mac n ch (taste like flour with no seasoning) and desserts (wasn't bad). The service is good. The place is clean. It wasn't a horrible experience, but with all the steak houses in our area this just wasn't comparable to what is out there. read more

I can barely give this restaurant one star. I am not one to complain, but l feel that I would be doing a disservice, to the owner, not to tell the owner, how bad it was. We were welcomed promptly at the door and seated. I have been there many times, and was excited to go back. It took over a half an hour to get drinks, that were a bit lite on the alcohol. Okay, I get that. We gave the waitress our order, when she brought our drinks. 45 minutes later we received our meals. Crab cakes were cold and broccoli was over cooked and black. Orange roughy sandwich was all breading, supposed to be pano but was more like tempura. I ordered grilled cheese and tomato soup! Yep, sandwich was cold and we never got the soup ! I asked to talk to the owner or manager. The owners wife said that she would get her. Half an hour later the owner came to talk to us, only after I got up and put my coat on. I nicely explained the situation, quietly and all I got was excuses. That they were so busy, etc. Now, mind you, there were tables available, so they were not overly crowded. I'm not sure what has happened to this place. I believe these are new owners and the food is terrible. Service was good. I had Orange Roughy and it was soggy. The vegetables of the day looked and tasted like what was leftover during the week. This was a Saturday evening. My friend had some sort of scampi (shrimp or chicken), and it was not edible at all. I tried one bite and wanted to spit it out. It seemed like it was covered in garlic salt water. No real garlic in it at all. I will no longer be going here. Very sad that one of my favorite places has lowered its standards this much. They have not lowered their prices however, which would not make any difference with food this bad. Great location, with a fun history. The menu is a pretty basic tavern menu, ribs, steak, pork chops and basic salads. The spicy chicken salad did a great job of numbing my tastebuds, but the sweet potato casserole was a nice balance point. (Yes, I ate it from my partner's plate... he was filling up on a half slab of ribs that were drenched in a delicious sauce.) Service was fantastic, and I loved watching our waitress, in the boondocks of Ohio, take our order on her phone. This place is old and nasty. There was mold along the floors and no room to enter. The chicken tasted like raw chicken from the store. The baked potatoes were cold and the butter was harder than a spoon. The waitress was disrespectful to our party. This is a place I would recommend for closing. The food was horrible and the waitress spilt a bunch of Coke on another person. This place is very dated. The bathrooms have a metal roller to get paper towels. The workers probably don't even wash their hands anyways. I would not recommend this to anybody. Just mediocre for the price however when calling about a half rotten side to go, and had to call several times s they were having phone cord issues, then got to speak to manager quickly to ask her to put us down for a free replacement budget side next visit which runs $3 (this was the family's 1st visit there, i mentioned, and said that we just spent $200), but the owner was not hearing any of it, touting the fact insistently that she had sampled it along with everything else. Really? You'd lose a repeat customer that spent 200.00 over a $3 item you insisted on lying about having tasted personally? Gordon Ramsey would whoop you. You now how green leafy vegetables beginning tasting like a wood rosin flavor when they begin going bad? If I had joined the family and eaten there, it's been replaced (or someone would be wearing it, just not me); I don't eat half-rotten food, but apparently you do not mind serving it (or eating it, according to you). How can someone mess up the simplest dish? It was clearly made it 2 or 3 days ago! Now while dessert was good, it was HALF the portion size of ANYwhere else, for $5. Corners were cut making it to save $ on the cheap. Kaiser bun was not homemade but good, pickle chips were great, breath-taking strong white (cheap) onion; great batter, seafood, lemon custard (although you mostly get meringue (was NOT mentioned) to fill your you 1/2-sized dessert. Great dessert selection (incl. cobbler, blueberry, so low-seeds) and a caramel pie, choc. cake (decadence), ~9 choices! Small (tiny?) expensive portions, except the fries; NOT homemade, & NOT those pictured here w/steak, the UN-seasoned factory ones pictured w/ meatloaf here. Fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles, great pickles, excellent tarter sauce, bad, sticky flavorless fries. They DO know how to bake a potato well; good sautee'd mushrooms. I think the cheap oil gave me allergic stuffy nose. Would've returned to try sweet potato casserole but not if the owner is so cheap she wines over $3 when you spend $200, and claims she loves eating half rotten vegetables that ''some people like that way.'' She must not have a good taster, i can only conclude. Don't bother asking a question feature on home page or hunting for a price neither works. Your supposed toasted bun will only touch the grill 2 seconds & only the top part. Good overall, but super-tiny homemade dessert, very small portion fish, nasty factory fries with imaginary seasoning, which were not even order but replaced w/ sour 1/2 rotten vegetable prepared 2 to 3 days ago; Miss owner didn't care to remedy. A repeat 150.00 to 200.00 customer likely lost over her trifling pettiness. She needs the rotten vegetable paving her yard so she can mow it/eat it. Petty. Someone else among us got the chopped grilled redskins, said they're 3 days old! At least they bake potatoes well. Desserts homemade though very sm. portions. Everyone got dessert nut no one of the 4 finished(!) any of them but me, #5 of the 5 (the lemon cream blueberry pie was good), it was so awful: bitter lava cake yucky vanilla ice cream;2.) flavorless cheesecake (2 people tasted those 2, no one liked them;3.) an awful chocolate cake (remember, most are &8 ea.); a 4th yuck something; the only good dessert was the 5th one, the sparse lemon custard bottom pie, good crust, lots of blueberry, tons of well-made meringue, but a slice = really is 1/2-slice for $5. She said a store-bought cheesecake mix would've been better. Oh, & very disgusting mac & cheese. No raves for tap beer nor red wine. Owner-lady: Try adding vanilla to your cheesecake; artificial is cheap!); try using non-powdered cheese in mac? Steak ordered med but was done very well. Perhaps menu is too large selection? Factory fries tasteless too, maybe only good if eaten there asap. How can u fail at cheesecake AND TWPO kinds of choc. cake?? Woe, of woe, so sad. Not to repeat Hope she reads this. Should import your slaw from LJS in WC, seriously -- had to LOWER this from 3 to 2 stars after hearing the owner/chef couldn't make edible mac-n-cheese, or decent Caesar (dressing), rotten slaw and 3-day old chunked redskins, and staff is unable to make only 20% of desserts THAT ARE EDIBLE (1 in 5). Truly it's an unforgivable sorry excuse for dining. If you must, stick to the cobbler type deserts and veg of the day, things impossible to botch. They should try mousse; that's hard to mess up right? Comes in an instant powder too, & at 8.00 or $6, they could still profit too. Love the atmosphere of a 200 yr old inn. One weird note, the servers take orders on cell phones. Didn't like that. Looked like they were texting friends, instead of taking our order. Also, served dinner rolls (cold) but no bread plate. Salads were fresh, claimed fresh dressings. Our server was new, said the garlic mashed potatoes were wonderful. If you like instant. Still good, but definitely not real potatoes. Prime rib was good, husband got ribs, good also. Probably return if in the area, wouldn't make the drive as a destination read more

Stopped in on 11/10/18 and ordered the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich and tomato bisque soup, both were excellent. China, the bartender, is very creative with cocktails. The Old Fashion made with rye whiskey, molasses, and an orange with cacao was exceptional. read more
