This place is OK for a picnic under the mature trees, if you don't mind the din of highway traffic. It also has an embankment on the western edge that is suitable for wintertime sledding. On the plus side, when my four-year-old and I were there this month, she spotted a rat trapped in the bottom of the metal trash can by the playground. So, although we would never feed pests, we showed mercy on the distressed beast. We got a good amount of memorable and free enjoyment by rescuing it from dehydration and heat exhaustion using an empty chip bag to lift it to freedom, then watching it scurry into concrete blocks under the highway. Be sure to check out the playgrounds even if you don't have any kids. They have one for adults too. Getting here from Capitol Hill doesn't take long. It still seems like it's quite a ways away though. This also is close to the Navy Yard. One bad thing is that it can be noisy because of the traffic on the freeway. There's a concrete wall separating the park from Interstate 395, which is where the noise comes from especially when it's rush hour, so if you want a quiet and relaxing visit avoid coming here at those times. Other than that it's one of the best parks around. The playground is cool for kids. If you're an adult you also have your own place to play next to it. They have adult sized playground equipment so you don't have to worry about being too heavy to play on these. It overall is one of the best parks in DC. Other than the freeway noise there's a lot of other things to like about it. This is a nice way of getting from Capitol Hill to the Navy Yard.

What is open is the playground and it's spacious leaving room for families to safe distance. Still, masks are required. Near the tennis courts (yes, the courts are open too) are a few D.C. statehood murals part of the mayor's campaign to make D.C. the 51st state. There's a rainbow-colored mural, a rose mural (D.C.'s flower) and a few others by local artists.

I'm rating this facility mostly based on the fitness center which is available to all DC residents…read moreat no cost. Of the recreation centers that I've visited so far in DC, this fitness center is the most updated and well-kept. The crowd is pretty steady regardless of the time of day (I've been at different hours of the day and days of the week between 6:30AM-7:30PM) but I've never been able to not use equipment during my 45-60 minutes workouts. Note that the fitness center closes 30 minutes before the posted hours (I.e. if the rec center closes at 8PM, the fitness center closes at 7:30PM). Not pictured are also more weight machines, a dumbbell rack with weights 5-100lbs and kettlebells. Aside from the fitness center, there's also the athletic field, playground, rooftop garden, outdoor basketball/tennis courts, and a gymnasium. From what I've seen, events at this rec center are more-so geared towards folks under 18 and 55+.

Luckily, most of the folks go go regularly, myself included, enjoy the pup presence! Feel free to take your pup off leash for a little run (if they are behaved). Just bring some bags to pick up after your pooch, as the park often runs out. - 2 Separate Playgrounds! Rose park features two playgrounds, one enclosed by a gate, and the other a bit more open. Both are utilized heavily by kiddos. I think that the enclosed playground is perhaps better suited to younger kids, and the more open playground is more appropriate for kids a little bit older. - Recently repaved running trail: There is a paved trail on one side of the park, great for running and connecting back to the nearby Rock Creek Parkway - View of Georgetown Row-houses: Rose Park offers a beautiful view of row houses that sit along the surrounding streets. Nestled in the heart of Georgetown, it is a great escape from the business of M street, and convenient to get to! - Meetings with neighbors and friends! Rose park is a great spot to speak to DC locals, and one of the few places where you encounter a true sense of neighborhood community. The population in Georgetown often tends to be a little older than other parts of DC, so folks have been coming to meet up with their friends in Rose park for many years. When the weather is nice, you will see people picnicking, and there is often a weekly "Yappy Hour" held on Friday, where folks bring their pups, wine, cheese, crackers, and snack while letting the dogs run around. - Market is nearby: The Rose Park Farmers Market often happens in Summer and Fall on Wednesday evenings and is set up on the basketball courts right in the park. This is always a fun and great opportunity to support local business. - Athletic facilities: There are a variety of athletic facilities set up in the park: 2 Tennis courts, a Basketball court, and a racquetball court as well! - Breathtakingly Beautiful Trees-- especially in the fall: The Ginko Trees that line the park make this a spectacular spot in the Fall. The trees are a VIBRANT yellow the likes of which I have not seen even when I lived in the northeastern states. The picture I took was actually taken mid-December of this past year, it was just stunning. - Cons: - Not so much a critique of the park, but please be careful not to step on the Ginko berries-- the trees drop them. The folks living around the park kindly do their best to sweep them off the sidewalks, but there are often so many, and when you step in them, they burst and produce a vomit-like smell, which will definitely make your shoes smell unpleasant!

The walk from Ladurée to The Phillips was only 1.1 miles, so I thought I'd walk it even though it was in the 80s. Rose Park was shaded and quiet, so it was pleasant walk through the park. I wish the path was all shaded. :) The trail needs to be repaved and it's not very wide but it was a nice respite from the heat. It's a nice park with basketball and tennis courts, a baseball diamond and a couple of playgrounds. This park was created for African American children in the 1910s and was the first desegregated playground in DC when Georgetown neighborhood kids started playing there as well. If you find yourself needing a break from the cobbled and crowded streets of Georgetown, take your coffee and food to this park and relax.
