SCAM! I hadn't gotten my racquets restrung in DC yet and didn't know where to go, so I called this…read moreplace. The guy offered to pick up and drop off my racquets, which seemed convenient. I specifically asked for a white grip, and he didn't mention any issues--just said he could provide the service of restringing and gripping. Initially, he said he would return my racquets the following morning, but that kept getting pushed back. It ultimately took five days. While the delay itself wasn't a huge issue, he repeatedly promised next-day delivery and kept changing it. When I finally got my racquets back, the original grip hadn't even been removed--he just wrapped a new one over it which wasn't the grip style or color I asked for. The finishing tape wasn't even properly placed at the top of the handle. When I went to play, the strings were actually worse than when I gave them to him. I ended up wasting $90, and to make matters worse, he lost my dampener. When I called him about it, he took an hour to respond and then admitted he had lost it, handing me a random one from his car. Absolutely horrible quality and service on every front.

I personally like the monthly tournaments and the seasonal leagues. TennisDC does an excellent job of keeping the entry fees low and reasonably priced, while still providing great prizes from a sponsor (Tennis Warehouse gift certificates!). I like that TennisDC's website will keep track of your stats like your Win-Loss record (by year and in total), % of games won, and other fun tidbits of info. The people I've played have mostly been friendly and easy to work with on playing times/locations. Every now and then, there will a guy who throws a tantrum on the court. It's annoying, and I just try to avoid playing these people in the future. This seems to happen in every sport men play competitively, and I've seen it less in this league than other ones in DC, but such is life.

As someone who grew up in the area and went to school in College Park, I somehow had no idea this place even existed! Even though the facility is slated for renovations soon, it's still very nice in its current state. They have both indoor and outdoor courts, spacious locker rooms, and a really nice clubhouse area. The atmosphere felt active and welcoming, especially on a busy Saturday afternoon. The staff members assigned as our coaches for the day were also incredibly kind and patient as they helped us work on our form and learn the basics of tennis. As someone newer to the sport, I really appreciated how encouraging and approachable they were. I've recently picked up tennis as a hobby and have been exploring clubs in the area to potentially join, and JTCC is definitely high on my list now. My only small critique is that I wasn't able to speak with anyone at the front desk because it was so busy, and the website doesn't list membership pricing, so I'll have to call for more details. It's a short drive from the DC area and definitely worth it. JTCC's facilities and team are top tier. A friend and I started level 1 tennis lessons with Coach Frank and had a blast. They currently have an offer where if you buy one group lesson package ($60) you get to bring a friend with you for free. My friend and I learned so much over the 3 weeks that we attended. They have various day and time options for you to choose from and there's an ample amount of parking. My friend I are now taking tennis 2 lessons once a week and we are obsessed.
