i am so frustrated!!!! I called and made an appointment at Florida Joint Care Institute then they called me back and said I couldn't have the appointment because the insurance i gave them is a secondary insurance. I am under my husband's insurance, but have an under 65 policy so it isn't secondary. They had me have Aetna call them to explain it to their guy, the first day he didn't answer when we called, so the next morning when we called he argued with my insurance person so I hung up. she called me back and said she called him back and He hung up on her. I have chosen somewhere else to go as I need to get my hip fixed but how many patients have these doctors lost because of this JERK to put it nicely. read more

Two years ago Dr. Donovan took excellent care of my broken right wrist, so I decided to see him when my left shoulder started to give me pains a month ago. It didn't go away so here I am. Today I only waited five minutes to see Hollie. She weighed me and got all of the details about my pain and when it started. Then I saw the X-ray tech Mathew. He gave me easy to follow directions, was polite, and efficient. He was caring and I felt he did a good job. Then I waited for Dr. Donovan. I only had to wait 5 min. We talked. We listened to each other. It's tendonitis. So a quick shot and I'll follow up in 6 weeks. All in 30 minutes. Dr. Donovan is professional & caring. I felt respected and important. His staff is also respectful and caring, and I felt as if I mattered - from check in to check out. The place is clean and welcoming - TVs and magazines. I'll be back for my follow up and if I have any more pains or breaks that need expert attention, this is where I will come. read more

Waste of time and money. Dr was in the room for 3 minutes and charged $700+ for no advise on wrist pain. First thing they do is take an x-ray ($200), then the Dr doesn't even look at it or mention the outcome. Avoid this place! read more

I recommend PA Mangle not to talk to patients and family using a " script" and to exercise active listening skills and once you understand, work together to address the individual concerns expressed to you. While most people do not know how to navigate through the health system, some people know more than you recognize. Either way, your job is to work with your patient and their family. How can you provide care if you minimize their concerns and interactions are scripted. read more

Clean location with easy parking. Excellent doctors. Dr. Hanff and Dr. Cook are top of the line professionals. The problem with this institute is the staff. Most of the staff is not at the same professional level and efficiency as the doctors. The office staff takes more time than the doctors to take care of reception and prescriptions. For example, they turned the phones off during regular business hours (Monday thru Thursday from 8am to 5pm) so if you call by 4:45 pm to make an appointment the phones are already off because they close by 5pm. Same thing during "lunch hour". The staff turns the phones off for more than an hour, so expect no answer to your call. Once you are in the office, the front desk staff does not know much of anything. The front reception has two windows: one for check-in and one for check-out. The lady at check-in only knows to take your name and ask you to wait. Honestly, that is all she knows. If you ask her anything else she will not know the answer or who she should ask. The check-out lady only knows to verify if your insurance will pay or if you have a deductable, other than that she does not know anything else about permits, calling in prescriptions to pharmacy, time for exam results, etc. Furthermore, the nurse who takes care of prescriptions is also very dismmisive and does not empathize with patients. When the reception staff calls her for questions about the prescriptions she comes with an attitude. We love the doctors at this institute because they are truly some of the best in the field, but it is very unfortunate that the staff is below average making the experience almost intolerable. love Dr Mates and the whole staff, they are all very efficient and kind! I had an ankle arthroscopy and bone cement injection for a non healing stress fracture in my ankle.i was in a boot for awhile, used a knee scooter, did PT all part of Dr Mates treatment plan ! My result is no more ankle pain and walking normal again! Be patient( ( I wasn't exactly all the time lol) Follow his instructions he's the ankle "goat", you'll have an excellent result too! I have also been a patient of Dr Hanff , I have the same sentiments for him! read more

Love the medical staff here. The doctors, PAs, X-ray, and other technicians are amazing, and deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately the phone staff tends to be rude, and the clerical staff is incompetent. Twice in the last two months my elderly mother has gone for over two, almost three, weeks without the physical therapy needed to rehab a severely fractured tibia. This is a huge setback! The physical therapy company, sent multiple requests for the rehab order, and the therapist followed up. I also called several times. The first time I was told the order was in the fax box and would be filled when the doctor came in on Tues. Called Wed to follow up and I was treated rudely and accused of lying about what was said on Monday. These rude, incompetent, folks are giving this facility a bad name! read more

I went to Dr. Aaron Mates,last year,.I have a hammer toe and bunion,.he showed me a pamphlet of a picture ,before and after,and it looked beautiful,.so I agreed and went through weeks of recovery,.and pain,..well,my foot is one hundred percent WORSE than when I ever went in !!! and he had no answer for me,no apologies ,.most of the time he never even came in the room after my surgery ,.he was nice in the beginning but not after !! He got up the last time and just left the room,..and my health records were all wrong,..said I smoked and thats why he had to put the surgery date off,.well,I havent smoked since 1982....I am so sorry I ever went to him,..now I have to have my hammer toe amputated...look for someone else.... read more

My experience: I had pain and inflammation in my knee and arranged to have an x-ray at an imaging center. I picked up a copy of the x-ray and delivered it to the Florida Joint Care Institute at the time of my appointment with Dr. Cook. I paid a $25 copay, filled out the necessary paperwork and after a time was ushered into an examination room. Dr. Cook came in, introductions, how are you, etc. She looked at the knee and said there was nothing that can be done for osteoarthritis. I asked about a sleeve or brace and she said it would not help. She asked if the knee hurt? I said not at this time, it comes and goes. She said, "Next time it hurts to come in and we'll give you a cortisone shot." She left. I received a statement which I would like to post, but here are the specifics. Total charges $333.56, Total payments and adjustments (insurance) -$193.50. Balance due (promptly) $140.06. Details listed 45 minutes, which probably included looking at x-ray and consultation-really? I paid, out of pocket, $165.06 and insurance paid $168.50, total of $333.56 for ?????? I visited Dr Mates and he recommended a brace for my ankle. For over 3 months I made constant calls to the office to please send the paperwork to the insurance company. Needless to say the paperwork was never sent and when it finally was it was incomplete. I even had the supervisor at the insurance company speak to them and still the paperwork was sent incomplete.. The doctor was great....the staff not so much. I finally visited another orthopedic doctor who agreed with Dr Mates, completed my paperwork and sent it to the insurance company in 24 hours. The office staff needs to be retrained properly and the office manager has to learn to stop making excuses and retrain them or hire more competent staff read more
