She allowed me to speak to nurse Kelsey who also took the time to check and find out if they could help me and yes they were able and willing to help. So I saw Dr Hare who was kind, compassionate not in a rush to get me out of there which is unusual to say the least. Even my check out experience was nice as Kelly and Kayla helped me understand some insurance issues and greatly helped me with a past due balance issue. After getting it sewed and…read morestapled back together at the emergency room, I could not find a doctor for treatment but the doctor's office on Big Pine Key told me to go to the Nurse's Station. The Nurse's Station took great care of me and I recovered. This year, I had two cancerous lesions removed from the back of my left leg by a dermotological surgeon in Miami and I went back to the Nurse's Station for my continued care. I have now been pronounced well. Driving all the way from the Lower Keys to Miami and staying in the hotel overnight to see the doctor is very expensive and tiring. It's just not as good as just staying home to recuperate and going to the Nurse's Station. They also make sure that I am ok by calling and checking on me. I am only a patient but I rate the care that I received at the Nurse's Station higher than what I have received at hospital. I heartily recommend to anyone who needs care to go visit Dawn and Denise at the Nurse's Station.

I am writing this post not to bash on a doctor but to bring awareness. Last July I hurt my knee…read morepretty bad... this same knee, I have already had previous knee surgery on from a previous injury. I went to go see Dr. Perry at Key West orthopedics. I went into the appointment after waiting a whole week and not being able to walk for him to look at me, not even touch my knee no images taken no ultrasound no x-ray.... he just looked at me and said there's nothing wrong with your knee go home it will heal itself. .....then he proceeded to tell me to go to the checkout area where they charged me $90....$50 for my co-pay and $40 for some sort of percentage on my deductible. And then I'm sure he billed my insurance company for the office visit after doing absolutely nothing, but just looking at me and telling me that my knee was NOT hurt and making me feel crazy for even Being in his office!!! (I also asked Dr. Perry if he would at least order me a MRI and he proceeded to tell me that he would order it, but it would not be approved because he wouldn't tell my insurance company that he felt it was NOT necessary for me to have a MRI DONE!!!) This all made me feel almost silly for going in for the appointment at Key West orthopedics ...but I knew that I couldn't walk right and my knee was not feeling good at all. Was I going CRAZY?!??? I just sucked it up and wore a knee brace and kept going... Fast forward six months later I've been having knee issues on and off where I can't walk on it from time to time and I am in so much pain... I limp when I walk, and my knee swells up to the size of a cantaloupe, Any little move or slight twist I make with my knee can set it off!!! My friends could just look at my knee and tell which knee has a injury!!!! I thought about leaving the island to go get medical treatment in Miami or the Tampa area where my parents live in the winter that's how desperate I was to find good medical care for my knee because I knew something was really wrong with it. After talking to some of my friends one of them recommended me to Dr. Franklin and Dr. Benson here in KEY WEST. About a week and a half ago I did go into see Dr. Franklin and Benson at their office here in Key West for my appointment. Dr. Franklin came into my exam room and took one look at my knees and could tell exactly which one had a problem by sight. He examined my knee and did some imaging.... He he felt my knee and immediately said you have a baker cyst, and after examining it thoroughly came to the conclusion that I have a torn medial meniscus which will most likely require surgery because I've waited so long to treat it... He ordered an MRI that was approved quite quickly. I am awaiting my MRI but I wanted to post this rant/review/awareness message... I for six months have most likely been walking around with a torn medial meniscus .... That will now most likely be worse than it was an require surgery ....when I may have been able to take other routes to heal the tear!!! Also because walking around on a torn meniscus, has caused me to have a baker cyst which causes my knee to swell!!! Because of the greed and negligence of another doctor, I now have a knee that was injured, and the injury has grown worse because of Dr. Perry's negligence. I may not have needed surgery.... I could have maybe gotten some physical therapy, etc. but because of Dr. Perry's negligence, I've been walking around on this knee for six months, making my injury worse! So my point is... if you have any sort of orthopedic injury, please stay away from Dr. Perry and Key West orthopedics and also if you know somethings wrong with you and a doctor tells you there's nothing wrong with you. You are not crazy go get a second opinion always listen to your body, if you don't, I can harm you in the long run. I always listen to my body and my body is usually right. Here is a picture of my left knee and how big it is compared to my right knee and of course nothing was wrong with it according to Dr. Perry.

Before that, both days, they blamed their own staff's lack of knowledge and experience on, "they are doctors from other countries". The young girls at the front desk, rather than encourage and praise their "doctors from other countries", protecting and defending them, chose instead to use it against them as faults for being inexperienced and slow. If we hadn't been forced into pre-paying our cleanings after the initial exams, we would never have set foot in this establishment again. Now we are hoping they repay us what they owe, as our insurance covered everything.

After we got out of the ER we were told to follow up with one specialist for a broken leg that happened during the fall and a second neurologist for the problem that caused the fall to begin with. Nancy Kaplitz was the second specialist. She came in after hours on a Sunday to see us. She was so professional and reassuring that we got through the visit without my partner completely freaking out. Each time she needed to do something she asked permission first and explained what she was doing and why - that helped immensely with the fear of doctors issue. This is not a doctor that does five minute appointments. Each time we were with her for at least 30-40 minutes for the exam and another 30 minutes if she was doing treatment or tests. She didn't overbook or have one patient waiting while the other was being seen. We had her full attention the whole time. That experience was so good that when my partner had another similar issue this past month, we again called Nancy Kaplitz, who is now the only doctor my partner agrees to see. She came in on a holiday to see us even though she wasn't scheduled to have the office open that day. Again, we were so impressed with her care quality, thoroughness, and sensitivity.
