Oh Yelp...you useful little tool, you. Much like the other reviewer, I needed a lock engraved and had no idea where to even start looking for someone who offered this service. Then, across my feed came a review of Hollywood Pawn. LOCK ENGRAVED? Everyone else said no? PERFECT! I headed over to Hollywood Pawn with lock in hand and fellow Yelper Jesse V was there to set me up. He told me it would be ready in 24 hours - no problem. I got a call the next day (very early) that the lock was ready. Well, that was quick! The engraving was perfect and as the engraver put it, it's truly " an artform". I'm with him on that as my hand would never be steady enough to pull it off. While I was at the shop I figured, why not take some gold and see what I could get for it. Now, don't judge me...but at one point I had a gold grill. Yes. Gold teeth. I grew up in Miami and my role models were Trick Daddy and Pitbull. DON'T JUDGE ME! So after not using my fronts for MANY years I decided it was time to part with them. Jesse performed a couple of tests to confirm they were legit and it turns out they were actually more karats than usual fronts (I was a thug with a taste for the finer things apparently) - therefore they were worth more. Awesome that he kept it real as I would of believed whatever he said. So I ended up taking a $50 loss on gold I bought almost 10 years ago - NOT BAD! I left with some cash in my pocket, a wife that is happy to not have those around anymore and all my dreams of becoming a famous rap star vanishing. I got a super fair price and while we didn't have to call in an expert I got my "Pawn Stars" moment. I got some more gold pieces I will probably bring in soon. They had a nice selection of jewelry including rings, necklaces, chains and watches. Plus some guitars and other items in the store. I happened to be in a restaurant close by and saw this place next to it. Went in just to look. I found a very friendly gentleman (named Marlon I think) that was very helpful I asked if they cleaned jewelry , they did so I went to my car came back with a ring I was going to get cleaned. I asked many questions about antique jewelry and the lady they was very knowledgeable and informative. They also had electronics and I bought a video game for my son. Probably my worst experience in dealing with a Pawn Shop was at AAA Pawn in NMB. The fat guy I dealt with (don't remember his name as he was that less memorable) tried to insult my intelligence by offering a ridiculous amount for several items I brought in to sell. This place they are pariahs looking to STEAL your offerings. My recommendation is to STAY AWAY! I'm all for a biz to make a buck but not at my expense when I needed help. Well my experience here was AWESOME! I needed a padlock engraved and everywhere I went or called they told me NO! Well not here- when I called the gentleman on the phone asked what I needed done- I explained I needed a padlock engraved saying "Stuck together N&E 9-29-12" to bring to Paris to put on the Lock of Love Bridge- he chuckled! Do you blame him? Lol- I don't! I did tell him I was on a time crunch and I needed it ASAP- the man told me No problem, bring it in! So I brought it and BOOM in 1 day it was done! I can't wait for my 1 year anniversary to put it on the bridge! I would highly recommend this place to anyone for anything- O! By the way the jewelry selection they had was AWESOME!
