Our favorite food booth was the Cajun food stand, the oyster po'boy was fab, and the boudin was amazing , we went back for seconds and even took some home, it's hard to come by in SoFlo!! Their food was reasonably priced, for a festival and in our opinion - $20 po'boy, stuffed to the gills and served with tartar & remoulade on a super soft bun, and $10 boudin links that were about half a pound each and steamed to perfection! The vendor was Real Cajun Cookin' out of West Palm: https://www.facebook.com/reelcajuncookin/. A few other booths had really nice food presentations that were super tempting but we were full - plates ranged from $20 to $30, but the portions were HUGE, especially the coconut grouper, which we'll try next time! We also had boiled peanuts from the Lion's Club booth, $5 and always a winner! Domestic drafts were $7 each or 3 for $21, not a bargain, but nothing at a festival is ever a bargain, so know before you go if that's a sticking point for you! The music we heard was really fun, especially Pickle Money, which I really wanted to rename Pickleback lol. It's also worth noting that chairs at the grandstand are only for elderly people and veterans - even though you might have been able to bring chairs in past years, not so this year. Night Lights in the Garden is an annual holiday event staged by the Naples Botanical Garden. The…read moreinaugural event was held in 2009 using tiki torches. It's come a long way since then. Night Lights in the Gardens runs from November 27 to December 23, December 26-30, and January 1-3, from 6 to 9 most evenings, 10 PM on select nights. They are limiting the number of guests due to Covid so you must buy your tickets ahead of time on their website. To further protect people their is a suggested event route set up, 2 entrances and exists to prevent people from gathering close, and masks are required. Adult admission is $25. If you are a garden member, tickets are $12. If I lived close by I would definitely purchase a membership. Don't wait to purchase your tickets, the night I attended was sold out. I had a little problem purchasing my ticket and I just want to thank Katy from the bottom of my heart. She went way beyond anything she had to do so I could attend the event. Katy is an absolute gem and if you are reading this, thank you so much and I am wishing you the happiest of holidays. This even is 5 stars all the way. Just pulling up to the garden, I was already dazzled by the lights they had set up. Every night there is live music on the water garden stage. On the night I visited it was a duo, Kelly and Mason signing beautiful slowed down arrangements of pop song classics. The garden had the coolest lighted stools set up for people to sit on while they listened to the music. Pairing perfectly with the music was the delicious cocktail the garden created. Called Holiday at the Beach ($10), it had Malibu coconut rum, peach schnapps, pineapple and cranberry juice served over ice with a cherry and umbrella garnish. It was so delicious and this is going to be my new holiday cocktail. I can't wait to recreate it with the rum I had leftover from Thanksgiving. The cocktail can be purchased along with beer, wine, water, and soft drinks at a table in the garden and at the Frogg Cafe which was also serving a full menu. The lights were so amazing. I don't think my pictures begin to do the event justice. In addition to all of the plants and trees that were bathed in multi colored electric light, there were also special exhibit sculptures, from Steve Tobin, Nature Underground. Also scattered throughout the garden were trees created out of plants by the gardeners. I can't even begin to express how magical and beautiful the gardens are. The lights are used to accentuate the natural beauty of the plants. You can even have some fun shopping at the fantastically curated gift shop. When you purchase items you can help support the garden and knock some gifts off your list at the same time. I had the best time at this event and I highly recommend it. It is definitely worth coming out for even if you live on the east coast of Florida as I do. It was the perfect kick off for the holiday season. Grab your family and celebrate the real meaning of the holidays by getting together and attending this event. Long after who gave what is forgotten, the memories of precious time spent together will be treasured.

Alligator Flag Preserves is 18.46 acres. It was acquired on July 28, 2006 and opened to the public…read morein 2010. When Collier County took over this preserve it was overrun with invasive plants like Australian pine trees, melaleuca, and Brazilian pepper. The exotic plants were removed to restore the native habitat. The preserve takes it's name from the native alligator flag plant. Alligator flag (Thalia geniculata) grows in dense patches of plants that reach heights taller than most people. The leaves of the plant will wave in the air when alligators pass through them signaling their presence. This preserve does not have a parking lot. I parked at a nearby Dunkin' Donuts and walked in. The preserve floods seasonally, August to October every year, but it was completely dry when I visited. When you enter the preserve you can pick up a trail map. The trail is natural earth and makes a one mile loop. The area on the map that was listed as a marsh was completely dry. That is the area where you can find the alligator flag plants. The trails were for the most part maintained although there was one part where I needed to step over some trees. Offshoots of the main trail end at a residential neighborhood and warehouses. This preserves is home to the Big Cypress Fox Squirrel which is listed as threatened in Florida. Other animals that have been recorded here include the American robin, blue jay, great egret, mourning dove, red bellied woodpecker, red shouldered hawk, raccoon, black racer snake, and monarch butterfly. Slash pine, cypress, red, maple, and cabbage palm are some of the canopy trees here. Native shrubs include saw palmetto, wax myrtle, cocoa plum,dahoon holly, and myrsine. Besides the alligator flag you can also find on the ground swamp fern and wire grass. I didn't see any animals on my walk but I also didn't see any other people. I had the whole preserve to myself. There are a lot of more popular places to hike where you will see more wildlife in the area but all of the well known trails are currently closed. I just needed a secluded area to take a walk and this fit the need. With the lack of parking it doesn't invite outside visitors. In normal circumstances you can skip over this but in the current situation it was nice to find a place where I could get out in nature and get some exercise.
