About a month ago on our fur baby's visit to the vet we were told our 10-year-old Havanese had a heart murmur and was recommended for more tests. I am so happy that my daughter found this cardiologist which is on the other side of the world for me as far as distance, lol, but it was well worth the visit! Although we arrived about 15 minutes late, the staff was super friendly, caring and understanding. The doctor matched his staff by being friendly, answered all my questions and was thorough with his oral and written diagnosis/prognosis. One other positive thing that stood out was that everyone referred to my little Teddy as "your baby". I am happy to report the murmur is due to his age which is normal and in the beginning stage. No other abnormalities were found which was a relief. The price was reasonable for a thorough ultrasound of his heart, an electrocardiogram and a detailed report of the visit. I brought my dog into see Dr. Prosek after my 8 year old boxer fainted 2 minutes into our normal morning walk. He was packed for the day, but still made the time to see my baby girl in this situation and after the ECG she had an alarming heart rate of 240 bpm. After observing my dog's behavior Dr. Prosek made the decision that it would not be a good idea to separate my baby from us for her to stay at a hospital because she would be even more anxious without us and entrusted us to keep her home on bed rest, no activity (except for her to go to the bathroom with as minimal walking as possible) with a series of medication, and no excitement. I am grateful to Dr. Prosek for this decision because I do not think my dog would have survived had it not been for him. He checked in daily on her health (not counting the numerous times I annoyed him with my questions which he always took the time to address) and of course I followed his directions to a T. We took her in for her follow up appointment a week after the episode being hopeful but trying to have a realistic mind frame of the situation. I am happy to say my baby girl had a heart rate of 110 - 140 bpm and the medications have been effective on her and she can now continue small walks (nothing crazy in this Florida heat) but she can continue being a normal dog once again. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Prosek and his team because without them I would have lost my baby girl that day. Extremely caring and knowledgeable staff and he himself is a wonderful doctor who made me feel comfortable throughout the entire horrific situation. I was referred to Dr. Prosek by my wonderful regular veterinarian for an evaluation of a heart murmur he detected in my dog. I took my dog to Dr. Prosek's Homestead office in February 2023 for an echocardiogram. I never saw Dr. Prosek, but the tech told me the results were great and to follow up within a year. Prior to my second visit in November 2023, I forwarded the first results to my brother, a veterinarian in another state. He had them reviewed by a specialist, who advised me to find a different cardiologist, as the results from the first visit showed an alarming abnormality in fractional shortening. I had the second echocardiogram done at Dr. Prosek's Miami Beach office. This time the results showed normal fractional shortening. I asked the tech about the discrepancy and he said that it may have been due to a malfunction in the equipment in the Homestead office. When I asked why I was never contacted about the abnormal results, he had no explanation but said he would review the slides from the first visit and contact me. I requested a call from the doctor (whom I still had never seen). I received zero follow up from either the doctor or the tech after making several more calls to his office staff with the same request. Aside from the lack of diligence and professionalism, I have serious concerns about the reliability and accuracy of his office equipment and procedures. Dr. P is great. But I do think, he could use a better system on responding. My Maltese had been to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a stage 5 heart murmur and MVD . Thank God Dr P was doing a shift there and got him somewhat stable after the initial vet said to put him to sleep. With the proper follow up and tests in his office Coco gained another full year. Dr P prescribed him his meds (four) and I changed his diet to home cooked low sodium meals. Unfortunately he got worse and I called the office multiple times, lest messages ... I took him to his reg vet and she said the quality of his life wouldn't improve. I put my baby to sleep with an aching heart ... the office of Dr P did not return my call until 10 days later. That broke me even more. Maybe if they would have returned the call way sooner I could have brought Coco in to see him but he doesn't take emergency's is what I was told regardless. Which is too bad because he is a good cardiologist , the best here in MIAMI. I feel that I put my trust on him betting on Cocos life, and as much as I know he has a lot of patients, feeling that one on one personal caring call at a devastating time was ignored. 05/01/19 Precious white fluff muffin "Scruffy" diagnosed by local vet with "good" heart murmur...suspect he has degenerative mitral valve disease...strongly urged to have him evaluated by cardiologist. Two days later still reeling from diagnosis and partly in denial called FVC to schedule earliest available appointment with Dr. Prosek which was 2 months away; I don't intend to keep this appointment but I figure I need to get in line, just in case. Three weeks later, as my dog's coughing became more frequent and intense, I asked to be put on FVC's "wait" list for the Homestead office. You can request to be wait-listed for any or all of the FVC locations; your name is placed on a list to be contacted to fill any appointment cancellations which occur at the selected location(s). You must, however, answer the phone when FVC calls to advise you of a cancellation as they will not leave a message, instead proceeding down the list to the next name/person waiting to be contacted. All is not necessarily lost, however, if you miss the call. Although I did not see the call come in, I realized within 20 minutes that I had been contacted by FVC and promptly called them back. Luckily, the cancellation had not yet been filled and I was able to get in to see Dr. Prosek within exactly 1 week of the date that I was placed on the wait list. The appointment with Dr. Prosek was just as described in all the other reviews; thorough, professional, caring. Dr. Prosek uses the consultation and echocardiogram as an opportunity to educate you about your pet's condition and makes it clear that you, the pet parent, are a critical component of the team that is tasked to save your baby's life. Discharge instructions are clear and given orally and by written report. Hard copies are supplemented by electronic records which are sent to all interested parties; you, the referring vet, etc. FVC is operated the way all vets' and/or doctors' offices should be run but very few actually are; with professionalism, competence, courtesy and compassion. Had follow-up echocardiogram scheduled for 08/02/19; was advised that Dr. Prosek's cardiology resident, Dr. Bolfer, likely would perform the procedure as Dr. Prosek was working a reduced schedule as he struggles to recover from the sudden, devastating loss of his beloved father, Dr. Frank Prosek, exactly one month ago. I was not surprised to learn that Dr. Bolfer is also a personable and consummate professional, having been hand picked and mentored by Dr. Prosek for the last 3 years. I was, however, pleasantly surprised when half way through the echo, Dr. Prosek joined Dr. Bolfer to complete the procedure; it seemed only fitting to have Dr. Rob present when I received much better news than I ever expected: Scruffy's blood pressure had dropped from 149 to 117; his left atrium decreased in size by 1 cm and his pulmonary hypertension was resolved (it was 37 before treatment, 20 afterwards--normal is less than 25). 2 Cardiologists for the price of one--Scruffy's follow-up appointment was a very good day. read more

I don't want to make this post too lengthy, because the point I need to express is very straightforward. Dr. Prosek and his staff very statedly has saved my number-one pug Jack. Coming off of a very long week dealing with my fathers surgery, I had issue with my boys coughing symptoms. I made an appointment for his regular unbelievable vet dr. Theresa Tucci for my return on a Friday. On Wednesday the guardian angel watching my boy put a call into me regarding the severity of Jack's choking and I made the decision to rush right back. I returned on Wednesday and had in the meanwhile arranged his appointment to be seen by dr. Tucci Thursday morning on an emergency basis. She had several surgeries scheduled and yet made time to see my boy, especially given the situation. So to start I thank her and her staff for their compassion and urgency with Jack's condition. From her evaluation he immediately went to dr. Prosek. He had an opportunity to review his condition with doctor Dr Tucci and they both agreed and made it happen .. that he be seen immediately. From that point I went to doctor prosek's office , his staff was amazing and very accommodating. When he finally was in the hands of the doctor and his staff they delivered urgent and critical news. I will say that I felt privileged and very included in what was about to take place. I've come to realize he does this with all of his pet parents and I think it's amazing. My boy had an incredible amount of fluid surrounding his heart due to a tumor. This fluid was constricting his heart so badly it could hardly beat. He was very honest, and upfront, took his time to explain the situation with the radiographs and ultrasound in front of us, explained his experiences that he had with the situation, and what was about to take place just to save Jack's life. It was beyond an urgent and critical matter at this point. I wanted to be nowhere but with my boy and they wanted nothing more than for me to be there through the procedure. The Compassion they have for me as an owner and Jack as their patient is beyond words I could ever express. No matter what the outcome they knew the most important thing to me and him was that we were together. They grouped as a team with amazing determination to have a successful outcome. They were in it to win it, Jack was not treated just as a turn Mill patient. He was a precious life and even more they respected that he was a precious life to me. It was the scariest moment of my life because I never imagined when the sun rose that day it may have set without him in my life! This team gets it, no matter what the outcome may have been there is no doubt in my mind I could not have been with a more dedicated team to Jack surviving that day. So the end result is that he has a fight ahead of him for every single day. Dr. Prosek has made several recommendations for promising Therapies to give Jack a wonderful quality of life , and to extend that life as long as possible. I cannot be more grateful for that, because that day I was just not ready to leave without him. So the most important point of my experience is they made every move possible to save his life, they made every suggestion recommendation in follow-up to be sure I can give him as many days as the Lord will allow , those days will be quality days, and when his days are coming to an end, I fully understand and can accept his conditions. I will let go knowing that Dr Prosek had given my dog many days beyond what his outcome would have been without him his staff and dr. Tucci being in the right place at the right time that day. It is so comforting to know that our questions will be answered and our phone calls returned quickly. When Snapper was diagnosed with MVD and then congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension, he was very sick and we knew we were losing him. With Dr. Prosek's great diagnosis, treatment and the support of the entire staff, Snapper has had an excellent quality of life for nearly a year and most days he has no indication of a problem. The long ride from North Dade to Homestead to evaluate Buddy's heart murmur (Havanese ), was worth every minute. I was very impressed with Dr. Prosec's professionalism, thorough explanations and bedside manner as well as his staff's. Thankfully, Buddy's condition is not that severe and needs a follow up in 6 mo. However, I was given medication for him in the event of an emergency. Reassuring. Dr. Prosek and his staff are heaven sent, and the most compassionate team I have ever met. My 11 year old Shih Tzu is still alive today and is going to be turning 12, because of their expertise and optimism in providing the best treatment and care. They have managed to help control her syncope attacks, and constrained the tumor behind her heart from growing any larger with proper treatment, care and observation. Dr. Prosek and his team are so educated, and amazing at what they do. For those individuals who have pets who have issues with tumors, seizures, syncope attacks, etc go visit Prosek. Most doctors advise that when pets are already at this point that putting them down should be considered so the pet won't suffer. All I can say is the Prosek proved otherwise. I now know that anything is possible with proper treatment, giving your pet lots of love, and having an amazing doctor backing you. I consider him the Dali Lama of Pets. He is knowledgeable (more like the best), optimistic and incredibly positive. His staff is great and extremely knowledgeable as well. I want to give a special thanks to his assistants Noel, Lindsay and Alejandra for all they have done and continue to do. I took my 14 year old yorkie yesterday to Dr. Prosek. I loved his staff and Dr. Prosek. Everyone is so caring and gentle with the animals. My Zoey which is a nervous dog to begin was so peaceful. He explained everything in detail and erased any negative thoughts I had from what I was told by previous vets. He is the real deal. I left so encouraged and at peace. My dog has so many problems but he gave me hope and she will have a better quality of life because of his diagnosis. I wish I would have done it sooner. I recommend him and his staff 100%. Dr Prosek knows how by-pass the medical jargon for you to understand what is going on with your pet. My dog has PHT since 2010, a condition that is quicly lethal if not correctly treated. By treating her for the past 5 years (yes, 5 years! - 1/3 of her life) Dr. Prosek has kept her alive and comfortable so far - she is 17 in November and now living a smooth end of life.
