I found Flooring by Maurice Tunstall via Google. I wanted to get some vinyl installed in my…read moreenclosed porch (a small project) and to discuss some repair options for in my living room and kitchen. Maurice came out very promptly after I contacted him and he straight-up told me that a patch-job wouldn't work inside my house. He explained the list of mistakes that were made during the original installation, which occurred before we moved in. He pointed out that not only did the builders choose the cheapest material possible, but they did not prepare the sub-floor adequately and now my flooring is cracking, disconnecting, and the surface is bumpy/rolling. Maurice gave me quotes for the porch project and to redo all of my main-level flooring. Both quotes were completely reasonable, but my husband and I opted to deal with the main floor issue when it's time for us to sell this house and move out. For now we just bought a super-large area rug! I did retain Maurice for the porch project, and since it was so small he was able to send Dale over on a day when someone else had cancelled. Dale arrived right when Maurice said he would, and the project took 3.5 hours total. I am impressed with the finished project and very pleased with Maurice's consistent communication and honesty. Anyone who's been through this kind of thing before knows that some folks just disappear (like someone who never followed-through and sent me the quote they promised) or others just tell you what you want to hear (like the guy who said he COULD patch my living room floor). When the time comes to replace our main floors, I would not hesitate to use Maurice again. He's a small-business owner, a man of color, and a veteran. We should make efforts to support these types of laborers, especially when they have great business practices! :)

I felt very comfortable with him and his father working in my home while I was out of town and at work. My only complaint was that there was dust all over my apartment after the demolition. Mike kindly offered a credit for a cleaning service to help remedy that, which I appreciated. The tiling came out great, I would definitely hire Mike again!

I've held off leaving a review until he finished my second project because he's a hidden gem. Once people realize how talented he is, you'll have to join a waiting list to hire him. Mike possesses a true mastery of his craft. I know a lot of people that would do a good job as long as there are no surprises. Mike will do an excellent job no matter the circumstances because he's probably seen it before and knows how to fix it. He has the confidence and knowledge to walk into a room and get to work. He's not going to call his manager or google the next step. He is the manager; he is the go-to guy. Secondly, he has a good eye for design too. For my vestibule, I had an idea of what I want. I explained it in my layman's terms and hazy descriptions and he saw what I was envisioning. I didn't need to over-explain it or draw a picture. He just got it. Also, and more importantly, he's honest. He gave me an estimate and stuck to it. That never happens. Anyone else would have charged extra when they discovered the subfloor was rotted, or when they saw a 10 degree slope in the corner. Mike didn't. He stuck to what he said and even fixed a few wall tiles in the kitchen - no charge. Not to mention, his prices are a bargain. People with half his skill, wanted a whole lot more. Lastly, he's a friendly guy. I know it can feel awkward having a stranger in your home. Not with Mike. He's trustworthy, down to earth, and you'll be friends in no time.
