We met with a psychiatrist remotely every two weeks and went over an EEG report that was no more than coloured pictures and no detailed data. I was hoping for any improvement , but everyone who works with my child confirmed that the treatment had no impact at all. Disappointing.

The facility is not set up for autistic kids, but it is a clean office. Bring something to distract them like a tablet. There is a free guest wifi network provided by Evolve. The MeRT patient needs to be quite still, including the face, for a half hour or the brain surface electrical activity measuring device doesn't work. A week of treatment is 5 half hour treatments monday to friday. A treatment involves placing a couple electromagnetic coils over a fixed spot on the back of the head while sitting and then on the front while laying down. The coils click rapidly for a few seconds then pause for 20 to 30 seconds. This goes on for about 25 min or so. The sequence is coordinated by the computer it is attached to and supposed to be guided by the results of the brain electrical measurement. The scheduler and practitioner working there are ok. They try to accommodate you're schedule. They believe in what they are doing. There was no meaningfull takaway from the MeRT experience for us as far as the diagnosis of the effects of the treatment is concerned. We don't know how he was effected in the end. That was the main letdown. There were no recommendations related to treatment other than take omega-3 fish oil and sleep. They were not helpful in suggesting any alternative treatment options. The Edmonton autism center has never heard of them or thier treatment. The medical directors can't produce diagnostic pictures to show how your childs brain is being effected even though those pictures are a main selling point of the whole thing. They discount them by calling them just "pretty pictures" and seem to make you want to feel bad for asking. The cost is $4000 for 2 weeks, $11000 for 6 weeks and $14500 for 8 weeks. They charge an extra processing fee if you use a credit card instead of an e-transfer. In our case our son regressed on several fronts during treatment including walking funny, harder to feed, less ability to do things like brush teeth and stopped being able to complete school tasks he was able to do. He did not improve at all with speech, language, communication or cognition. He is more sad and withdrawn now. A common side effect of the treatment is irritability and he is definately howling more and hits himself in the face sometimes now. We are hoping this goes back to the way it was because they say the irritability wears off. Corporately and with the medical directors there is definately a McDonalds drive through vibe. There was little value in the online meetings. Sometimes they postpone them or don't show up. I don't know what the effect was on his brain in the end. They continue to fail to provide the diagnostic feedback they sold you with and I really question if the treatment program was ever guided by any brain readings. Neuromeds guided stimulation program is proprietary but not as unique as they let on. Other similar options exist in Alberta and the US. Still based on their own rhetoric they are worth a try. Parents of autistic kids are desperate for solutions and Neuromed wags hope in thier faces. Don't do more than two weeks then wait for the results of the scan and the meetings to see if they follow through on thier end. Neuromed doesn't seem to be beinterested in delivering once they have the money. The company might deliver better if they have to earn the next two weeks. Thier doctor said pauses in the treatment don't effect results. They do a big one over Christmass break. They're less likely to postpone diagnosis, and the bi-weekly review meeting, if they even show if the next 2 week payment depends on it. Again the practitioner and scheduler a just following the system as best they can and likely believe they are doing good. If you've read all of this you're likely a parent of an autiistic kid. For this…read morereview I'm speaking specifically to the event I went to that was hosted in this space :) This privately-owned clinic run by a gentleman named Craig was kind enough to host this great information/learning session centered around a huge trail running event in the USA called Transrockies Run - a multi-day (6-stage) 'race' where 350 people cover 120 miles of beautiful trails and small towns around the continental divide of near-central Colorado! The main workout area round the front desk/reception area was completely filled with people in folding chairs (and a few rolling around on the large workout balls), a table full of pizza provided by the pizza place next door, a cooler of drinks, slideshow at the front and a little Q&A section to the side. In other words, standing room only! The washrooms were spaciously generous, and the other rooms meant for private treatments seemed small yet inviting to try :) Craig is well-known in the running community so I'm very interested in coming back as a customer to try the delightful treatments available. (plus his new gorgeous grey-blue shiny puppy is adorable! can't remember what breed but looks like a German greyhound)
