I needed a client gift, and thought I'd wander in and support a local merchant. The store was deserted and sparsely stocked. As I looked around (since I was apparently alone in the place), I noticed most arrangements on display were faux flowers, I assume for longevity. A nonchalant gent wandered out from the back office and seemed annoyed that I was there. With no sense of urgency, he informed me that they were unable to fulfill my needs (a small bouquet for the loss of a pet). He pointed to a board with many different flower names on it, and explained matter-of-factly that they were very low on stock, and wouldn't be going to the wholesalers' for a couple of days. He wasn't sorry to be losing a customer. Didn't even say goodbye as I left, and he went back to whatever he'd been doing in the back. read more

I have driven by The Flower Barrel here on ElNorte in Escondido, about a bajllion times (yes, exactly one bajillion) as I live a block or so away. This tried them out for flowers this past Valentines day and I am glad I did. I would much rather use a local florist that I can meet and trust, rather than a big online ordering service. I made it pretty simple for them, which often causes many other businesses of this nature to falter I have found in either cutting corners with price or quality. I walked in and simply asked for a dozen roses to be delivered to my wife's local work on Valenties day. The price was good, about average with similar offerings around town, the bouquet that arrived showed up early in the morning, which was great...it had 1 dozen long stem roses, some accompanying trim flowers, a glass vase, and some nifty little re heat shaped trim. Pieces added in. Nice to see they didn't just wrap up 12 red roses. Now comes the second layer to the onion...as pretty as these flowers "were" they did begin to wilt pretty quickly even within the proper conditions. I sent a quick email to the Flower Barrel thru their website simply explaining what had happened and asking if they had a guarantee on their flowers. The next day I received both a call and email with an invitation to bring them in for exchange. My wife stopped in and exchanged them, which went smooth, without any second guessing or complaints. They really backed up their product with great service...and for that reason we will be back. I got the double alstroemeria as a boutonniere for my prom date, and the service was quick and easy. The guy was fantastic and very nice. However, I didn't really like the flower. It wasn't so much their fault I suppose. It was more or less my choice of flower. I know not to pick that one next time haha. It was just small and kinda shriveled (that was the flower type; they kept the flower fresh). I wanted something big that stood out! Oh well. They still offered great service. I just had my wedding on August 5th, and I went through Flower Barrel for my bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere. Overall, the experience was absolutely wonderful. I love supporting local businesses and I love the new connections you make. When we first went in, I was a little nervous since we had been looking around at Flower Shops all week. I was quickly reassured when this nice man came out and helped us with every question and concern we had. He was so knowledgeable about each and every flower and what filler would work best and every detail we needed. Then I was able to look through catalogs with different bridal bouquets, which were quite outdated, but the gentleman there, Matt, informed me that I could also show him a picture of a bouquet and they can recreate it. I did just that, and I was able to email the picture to them. Their turnaround time was just great, I ordered about 2 weeks in advance and it was ready for pick up the night before. I got a 6-8 White Rose Bouquet with Baby's Breath filler and a White Rose Boutonniere. The total came out to $80 for both. When I went to pick up the bouquet and boutonniere, I almost panicked finding a sign in the window that they were closed and would return at 4:15pm. It is now almost 4:30pm and no one was there. Moments later, Matt pulls up and apologizes for being so late. We go inside and my bouquet is absolutely PERFECT! It matched the picture I sent exactly, even down to the ribbon that they used. I could not have been happier with my experience at Flower Barrel! I will recommend to anyone and everyone! read more

I woke up this morning realizing it was a good friend's birthday. In a scramble I placed on order on 1800 flowers only to get a call a few hours later from a poor English speaking employee that they would not be able to deliver my flowers today. Flower Barrel was able to outshine 1800 flowers by delivering on a Sunday, which seems a rarity for flower shops, for a great and affordable price as well. And then when we asked for a refund she asked for the flowers back.
