My grandmother passed away and I needed funeral flowers on short notice. I called more than four other places, including 1800 flowers, and no one could guarantee delivery within 24 hours (for a Sunday delivery). The funeral home recommended Flowers by Shirley. The woman I spoke with was very nice, promised the flowers would arrive on time, and the total cost was even less than anywhere else I looked. My brother ordered flowers from shirley flowers that were delivered to anither address first and then resent to the correct address. The tulips were limp and broken and the chocolates were melted. I believe Flowers by Shirley is one of 4 stores remaining in the Ponce de Leon Mall, and after shopping here I can see why. It's located right near the center of the "mall", and there's no way you can not see it. From the outside, the store looks great, and makes you feel like you're walking into some lush tropical garden or something, lots of greens and lots of colors out on display. I have actually been shopping here on quite a few occassions, I generally stop in to pick up flowers for a special lady on special nights. They have plenty of bouquets available for purchase, and you can always call ahead or go online to have one specially made just for you, but I always go in just to pick up some roses, and I'm in and out in about 5 minutes. There are usually two ladies working, one of them will work the register and ring you up, while the other will get your order ready, and these two don't mess around. They're both unbelievably kind and pleasant, but they take their business very seriously, and do everything they can to make sure you're getting exactly what you want, and give you quality flowers that look great. The prices are very good compared to other local florists, although a bit more expensive, but you get what you pay for when you're buying flowers. If you need flowers for a special occasion or if you need some great flowers on the fly, stop in and you won't be disappointed. This is the only place I'll go in St. Augustine. I recently used Flowers by Shirley for my wedding flowers. They were incredibly responsive to what I wanted, and very reasonably priced. When I first spoke with them, I sensed that they had some great ideas so I hired them and only gave them only a little guidance, telling them to do what they think would look best. When I saw the flowers at my wedding, I was blown away at how beautiful the arrangements were. They are wonderfully creative and talented at what they do, and very easy to work with. A small bouquet showed up in a vase and the petals started falling off before the day was over. My boss could not believe what a horrible arrangement it was. Ordered a large arrangement online for my sister's for her birthday. The arrangement they delivered was not at all like what I ordered. When I complained, they provided me with a copy of their policy stating they can make substitutions when necessary and credited me for the $15 service fee. This is not acceptable. This was not simply a couple flower substitutions - the ENTIRE arrangement was different as well as the vase and color scheme. I ordered a lavender/purple arrangement and the one received was in peach/pink. Their policy does not say anything about the color scheme. The types of flowers were also completely different. Someone could have, at the very minimum, contacted me about the substitutions. I wanted the purple colored arrangement as it is my sister's favorite flowers/colors. Also, after my initial contact, they will not respond to any additional emails from me. This is EXTREMELY POOR Customer Service. I would NEVER order from them again! read more

My daughter ordered flowers to be delivered to me for Mother's Day either on Saturday or Sunday. They arrived 445 on Monday and were wilted. I refused acceptance of them. When the lady called to ask why, I explained that they were late and of poor quality. She argued with me for 10 minutes and refused any accountability. I will never use this company and will tell anyone who listens to take their business elsewhere! read more

Their arrangements are nice, but no more so than other florists I have used. Their delivery reliability, however, is abysmal. I have been a more or less steady customer for well over 10 years, and today's Monday delivery of the arrangement I ordered for Mother's Day (which was to have been delivered on the Saturday before Mother's Day) makes the third or fourth botched delivery by Shirley, so I will not be using Flowers by Shirley ever again. read more

Unsat order delivered by Flowers By Shirley. The arrangement arrived 90 mins after the "prior to 13:00" option I purchased. Also, the arrangement was a lesser option (Deluxe size) than the Premium size I purchased -- a difference of approx USD 30.00 that Flowers By Shirley essentially pocketed. The flowers in the vase were very pretty, but I would not recommend for your floral needs. read more

I asked them to deliver a bright and pretty fresh flowers to the hospital to help my daughter who has cancer to feel better. What I got for $30.00 I should have went to Kroger and got a bouquet and to the Dollar Store for a vase and saved my money! 5 flowers some greenery and a vase with a bow is what I got. I will not be shopping there any more and advise you to not waste your money. Wasn't even pretty. Orange lily, a gerber daisy, some purple, flower, carnation. I never do this, but to me there's nothing worse then bad customer service!!! Beware if you order any flowers from Flowers by Shirley. My husband ordered flowers today at 11 am and by 5pm no flowers were delivered, they couldn't find the delivery truck and they told me the flowers would get delivered on Monday!!! When I asked the lady for a refund, she argued with me telling me "it's my husbands fault, he should know when is Valentine's Day" and then as she continued to insult him tells me she can make me a new arrangement, ah, no thanks! She refused to give me a full refund for the flowers that never got delivered. I told her that was bad customer service and she asked me what do I know about that, so after explaining to her that I am a small business owner too and if a client wants a full refund, I will give them a full refund, she called me a liar and asked me to leave her flower shop. In short, don't ever order flowers from Shirley. Use Flower Works instead! They are amazing and have great customer service plus their flowers always last longer! read more

I usually don't leave bad reviews but this one was worth the time to write. My husband took me to St. Augustine for the weekend of Valentine's as a surprise getaway. One of the surprises involved was a beautiful bouquet of a dozen roses to be delivered and waiting for me... This was the 3rd Valentine's day we have been together but the first two were long-distance. This was the first one we were getting to spend together physically, and the first one was husband and wife. It was really special. Until I got the flower delivery. I walked into the hotel room Saturday, February 13, to find the beautiful bouquet sitting at the desk. I was pleasantly surprised, and then looked at the card sitting on top of the arrangement. It said the hotel's address and my name, spelled in a different way. I asked my husband about this. He said the lady on the phone suggested he address me as that spelling as it meant Beautiful. :) Aww. I opened the card to read the inner message. ".....Your husband, ____." I asked him if he meant to have his name wrong too. He said "What?! No." This obviously took away from the sentiment of the flowers... Flowers by Shirley were closed by this time and closed for Sunday, Valentine's Day. We traveled back home. I called them on Wednesday from work only to reach a temporary staff. She thanked me for calling but informed me that Shirley was in a meeting with a wedding group and would call me back afterwards. This was 4:05pm. I waited. They close at 6pm. No phone call. I waited Thursday. Apparently, I wasn't important so I called back at 4:00pm again, today. I asked the lady who picked up if I could speak to Shirley. It was Shirley. I told her I had called yesterday and didn't receive a call back from her as I was informed. I told her the situation...how my husband made the order over the phone, and informed the lady that his name was not spelled the traditional way (spelled it out for her) and how the lady thanked him for spelling it out as she would have written it down the other way. Shirley sighed on the phone, and said she never got the note to call me back but she did get a ticket from a temporary assistant who told her about the problem. "I apologize... but it was an honest mistake, I feel. I typed it up. It said the traditional name on the ticket I got... I didn't mess up." I said "No, but my husband spoke with a lady working for you, a Scottish lady because they spoke about how she moved here when she was 6... and she confirmed the spelling. Whether or not she got that information to you correctly or not, is not my problem. The order was made through her in good faith that it would be delivered correctly." Shirley continues on, "well... it was a temporary. I had 4 temporarys working for me that weekend bc I was short staff. I'm sorry if it ruined your weekend and holiday. Thank you for letting me know. Have a good day." That was it. As the manager, you hold responsibility over your employee's actions... at any company. That same temporary took my husband's card information over the phone and they got his name, number, and the price correct there! Their website states "Family owned and operated with quality and excellence since 1973, we look forward to providing, on a global scale, the unparalleled service we have proudly delivered to our local customers." Quality implies attention to detail and spelling the name correctly. Excellence, don't make me laugh. Unparalleled? My husband and I have ordered our fair share of flowers. This was the worst service of all. Anyway, Lesson learned: Don't buy flowers from Shirley or ask to speak directly to her to make an order so if it's got a mistake, she'll feel responsible for it to at least take credit for it. Stay away. Good luck to those who still venture on with their business...If you want a little above average flower arrangements with a random name on it, this is the place to go. Shirley takes no responsibility for her colleagues (temp or not); there is no customer value; she just wants your money. :) read more

Flowers by Shirley was one of the most unprofessional florists/business' I contacted in efforts in planning my summer wedding. I am an out of town bride, so I knew I had to have more patience and flexiblity than ever in communicaiton with vendors in the area, but after weeks of no contact and being told that I would receive the information that day or the next and then never receiving it was very aggravating, frustrating, and unprofessional. If you would like to use a florist that is unprofessional, lacks communciation, and does not care about serving their clients, by all means book with Flowers by Shirley. If you would like a professional florist/designer, look elsewhere!!! read more

I have placed several orders directly with Flowers by Shirley for delivery in St Aug area and each time the receiver has been very impressed and pleased. I don't order with wire services but ask the designers to be creative only asking for few specifics. The arrangements have always been quite creative. I also call ahead for Holiday deliveries so they have plenty of opportunities to deliver, with busy schedule/ I just wish they could take a picture to send to me so I can see what they have designed. read more

I ordered a Valentines day gift for my husband from here. One of the employees called and told me they didn't have it in stock and offered to let me come in and figure out what I wanted to replace it with. I went into the store and was greeted by the employee who called me. She started helping me but told me I had to wait for Shirley to get off the phone. I waited 20 minutes for her to get off the phone then got a very rude greeting from Shirley. She wasn't willing to help me figure out what I wanted to replace the gift with. She began criticizing her employee who WAS trying to help me decide what I wanted to get. At this point I'd been in the store for over 30 minutes. Right in the middle of the employee making suggestions and helping me set up the gift, Shirley pulls her away, back to where the flowers are placed, and very loudly tells her employee to get me out of the store, that it wasn't time to chit-chat. The employee told her I was trying to figure out what to replace my original order with, Shirley told her she didn't get, to get me out. At this point I felt like I'd done something wrong by trying to keep my business there and apologized to the employee. While doing so, Shirley again was trying to get me out of the store. The employee made it clear Shirley often treats her employees poorly and doesn't care whom is standing there. I will not go back to Flowers by Shirley Page. I will never recommend them either. Employees should never be treated so poorly, especially in front of customers. read more
