Unsure what has happened to this store over the last month, but every time I've had an appointment lately, someone has called out, the store has opened late, or it's closed early. At this point, I'm done wasting my time. On top of that, half of the staff listed on the website is no longer there, which makes it difficult to know who is actually available and reliable for appointments. Both of the previous managers cut my hair, and I never had any issues. Would give zero stars if I could. We had been fairly regular customers due to convenience/location. Recently my 15 yr old was denied service for being 10 minutes late. I went back in after he came out and pleaded my case, saying he only needed a trim/15 minute cut maximum and was told that wasn't possible (this was accompanied by snide comments by the stylist..."um, actually it was 13 minutes"). All this while the store was EMPTY (zero patrons) , and all three stylists were sitting in their chairs doing nothing. I have had to wait plenty of times at this location when we were on time, and was not afforded the same courtesy when we were barely late. Furthermore, this location doesn't seem to retain the same stylists for very long, and i have seen them deny walk-ins with numerous open chairs. Man am I pissed off....... Seeing as how I know a lot of stylists that work for Floyd's and mainly marketing to men. I thought I would try the location by my house. I explained to my stylist the challenges with my hair. I own a salon but my team focuses on color and woman's hair so I go see Barbara and stylists who are more familiar with men's hair cutting. This was the worst experience I have ever had. My stylist literally said nothing to me and my hair cut was done in 10 minutes. Wasn't offered a shampoo and the bowl is literally infront of me. The hair cut technically is terrible my lines are not blended it's in even on both sides and I have attached pictures for reference. I told This woman I owned a salon and asked her is she was comfortable and skilled at fades. I wanted a mid skin fade and to connect my sides my sides were disconnected and the hair cut is sloppy as hell. For 34 dollars, I should have received a way better hair cut than this. I charge my men 30 and they get hot towels shampoo and condition blow dry style scalp massage and a hot neck shave: I want my money back! From business owner and cosmetologist to owner and stylist. If a client asks you if you are comfortable with a cut do not fake it until you make it. You ruined my entire day. You made me incredibly self conscious walking around and your management wasn't even present to help me. Utterly disappointed! I went to Floyd's in Annapolis to get my normal haircut. I wanted just a trim. All went fine during the haircut itself. But when I got home I found a cut line through the hair on the back of my head. Also the person cutting my hair failed to tell me the mistake she made. This is the second time a mistake has been made. The first time I changed barbers. I don't suggest going there because they often make mistakes and they won't tell you they made one. read more

I write this as a returning customer atthe Annapolis location, with fantastic past experiences.... but, today's cut was an absolutely horrible interaction. The person cutting my hair was immediately dismissive and rude, insulting my hair style and product I had in my hair from the day. She repeatedly told me I had too much product and lint in my hair making me feel uncomfortable and apologetic. When I tried apologizing and making small talk, she ignored me or responded very curt. She then rushed through my haircut telling me how busy she was. It was a sloppy cut (the fade wasn't even fully faded) and she seemed downright annoyed to provide the services I was paying for. When begrudgingly shaving my neck, she didn't put a towel down so she smeared shaving cream all over my shirt and didn't even bother to wipe it all up. After she was "done", she very rudely told I should go home and shower before I did anything else that day. When I paid, she didn't even see me out or say bye, she walked away as if I had wasted her time, even though I still tipped. There was only 1 other person there at 11:30am, so they were not at all busy. No excuse. On top of all that, I get to my car and see that I still have chunks of hair all over my forehead. She didn't even take the time to clean me up and let me walk out covered in hair. I've never had such a bad experience as this at Floyd's. I know this was just one person, one time, but it makes it really difficult to want to go back without knowing who I'm getting. read more

I haven't had a haircut from a barber in years but taking my son to get an experience from genuine barbers brings back the fun. They treat him like an older kid who has the needs to get a fresh cut. This was the second experience with Floyd's 99 Barbershop and we left satisfied both times with the outcome. The barbers have their unique styles and take care of their customers/clients. Some come into the barbershop knowing which artist they want giving them a trim. My son has been in great hands both times. I look forward to bringing my son back here as needed. Thank you. I made an appointment with Tracy and she was very good. She understood what I wanted and when she wasn't sure it would work, she made another suggestion and it works just as well. Excellent cut, styling and would definitely go back to her again. I am not the person that typically leaves barbershop reviews but this is a must. I messed up my sideburns earlier when trying to trim my beard. I knew it wasnt a mistake I could fix so I figured I'd go to Floyd's to just blend my sideburn and beard. When I went to checkout I was charged $30 !!!! I spoke to a manager and explained that I sat in the chair for 5 minutes just to have my beard and sideburn blended. He said that technically a beard trim is $18 and $12 for a neck clean up(something I didn't ask for). He reduced the total to $24 dollars which is the same as a full haircut. I trimmed my own beard and everything! They just faded my mistake into my sideburns! Absolutely crazy you can charge someone that much money for 5 minutes of labor. Crazy. I came in for a haircut Saturday, 1/14/2017. There was a little bit of wait, got my haircut and everything was fine so far. Towards the end of the haircut, she indicated that she was going to use a straight razor, I told her that it was fine and she proceeded. After she was done, I felt a burn on my neck. As I'm walking away from the shop, the burning sensation intensify. I pat my neck with a white piece of napkin that I grabbed from the food court and saw specks of blood, I'm thinking to myself, OK maybe it was just a small cut, no big deal. I came home and had someone took a picture of my neck, and it was disturbing. What is upsetting is that there was no acknowledgement that she messed up, no apology, and she acted like everything was normal. I will try to post a picture to this review as well. read more

went in a couple of days ago to have a haircut and beard trim. When I got home, wife asked me what happened as beard was a mess. Called to get it fixed and went back 2 days later. Thought it was a comp with straight razor, hot towel since it was so bad. Ended up taking several more inches off beard that I have been growing for years. Additionally, had to pay (50% off) for beard fix. Looks good and was done well second time, but my trim turned into a butchering and cost me $90 and am back months on beard growth. Really want to like this place but they made it kind of hard to. read more

UPDATED REVIEW!!! I've been getting my hair cut and colored at Floyd's 99 in Annapolis, MD since shortly after the location opened. I've had several regular hairdressers who I very much liked (before they went on to other jobs). I've had a couple of somewhat inexperienced hairdressers, but on the rare occasion where I wasn't 100% happy with the results, my stylist was wonderful about fixing the problem. Until... On my third to last visit to Floyd's, I arrived with my natural brown hair color with lightened sections that had been dyed wild orchid, purple and the tips blue. The color was pretty faded. I told the receptionist that I was looking to work with a colorist who was skilled with Pravana color as I wanted to make a big change. The receptionist raved about the new colorist and how she was 'just awesome'. The new stylist said that she'd been doing vibrant color forever and it would be 'no problem'. I told her that I wanted to lighten and color all of my hair to the Wild Orchid. She took down a price chart and quoted me a price. I had second thoughts and said maybe I'd just do the highlights again. She asked what I'd been hoping to pay, I told her and she said that was 'no problem' and discussed with another stylist how to ring it up differently. My first moment for concern was when she continuously asked another stylist whether my hair had been lightened enough as she worked on it. Eventually she and another stylist pronounced it ready, though it wasn't the least bit uniform, and she went to mix the color. I told her that my old stylist had suggested adding just a bit of Violet to the Wild Orchid to make the color last longer. She came back with the two shades of color to show me. She said one was the Wild Orchid and one was Wild Orchid with Violet, which she thought looked too purple, so she wanted to go with Wild Orchid without the Violet. I admit, I didn't look too closely, but said the Wild Orchid without Violet was fine, as I've used that color often in the past. During the coloring of my hair, she complained about how she'd heard that getting paid at Floyd's was sometimes a pain and that she didn't know yet how well she was going to make out there. She went on at some length about how she'd NEVER USED PRAVANA and really wanted to just bring in her own color to use. She thought Pravana was a pain and didn't understand why Floyd's was using it. She informed me that she was going through a lot more color than she expected. When she finished my hair was various shades of red, copper, light pink, peach and small bits of darker pink. I pointed this all out to her. She said that it hadn't come out like she expected either. Then she stated that it was getting late, so why didn't I wear it a day or two and get back to her. I left, unhappy with my hair. The next day I arranged to have the color fixed. I mentioned how I thought Pink might have been used in place of Wild Orchid, but she said that definitely wasn't the case. She claimed to have checked the boxes and the only ones she had used were Wild Orchid. She texted me that she had spoken to her manager and that she would have to charge me to fix it. When she began coloring my hair this time I said it was going on more the color I expected and she claimed that she had added purple to the Wild Orchid. A short while later she squeezed more color from the tube--- the exact same shade she'd been using--- and proceeded to color without adding any other color! After a while, she grew upset and said she didn't have enough color and that she was going to get in trouble for going through so many tubes after she gave me such a good deal. Another stylist came over to help and mixed separate colors to duplicate the Wild Orchid. She had to explain that Pravana called for a lot of saturation, more so than other brands. In the end my hair was still more red than wild orchid and very patchy. When I later (after washing repeatedly and letting it fade as much as I could) went to Floyd's to have it fixed, the manager dismissed my complaints very condescendingly and I was charged a SUBSTANTIAL amount for a 'color correction'. Not impressed. I went in there only because my normal hair person was booked up and I was going out of town. I was seen quickly, and that's where the good stuff ended. First of all, this is NOT a barbershop. Barbers get different training than hairstylists. I won't mention names but the girl cut my hair crooked and didn't fix it until I pointed it out. I have a very uncomplicated hairstyle. She was busy working on someone else who was getting her hair dyed and didn't seem to want to be bothered with me. Then, when I went to pay the check, it was almost 25% higher than the rates of other places in Annapolis and did not even include a wash. Won't be going back. read more

I refused to go back to this shop, but my boyfriend went back again, the girl on the phone couldn't understand who he was requesting so he went with a different barber, that's 2 other that the original now, again his hair looks terrible, didn't get the cut he asked for and this time it looks like the girl shouldn't have even been cutting hair. Last time I posted a review the district manager reached out to offer to have my hair fixed(the store manager is the one that messed it up in the first place), I declined and she offered to have his done free and I declined and said he'd likely just give them another chance, well he did and it looks like Floyd's of Annapolis should worry less about everyone getting a shoulder massage and more about having qualified employees. read more

I first learned about Floyd's 99 by the recent vacancy left by the defunct Borders franchise. This recent addition to Annapolis Mall is also a franchise. Having a negative bias franchises, my expectations are usually set low on customer service. My first visit to Floyd's 99 was pure accidental. Needing a quick cut, my regular barber hours conflicted with my limited schedule. Locating a traditional barber specializing in straight razors who is available on Sunday evening is rare. After searching online, Floyd's 99 came up in the results, I took a quick scan of their hours, services and cost. Hours - Open seven days a week with late evening hours (8pm weekdays) is a great help for anyone coming in after a workday looking for a haircut and/or shave. Services - An initial assumption is that Floyd's 99 is a glorified salon. After viewing their site, it is obvious Floyd's 99 focus is to cater to both Male and Female clients. Cost - My normal payment ($14 + $6 gratuity) is more than reasonable in Annapolis. My barber is relatively lower than the mall fixtures, which results in adding a large gratuity in return. Surprised by the rates on their website, Floyd's 99 is almost on par with my barber's rates; however, offers a straight razor touch up that my barber does not offer. Visit - On my first visit, I was greeted with positivity and professionalism. I was assigned to a barber and shown to my chair. Her work area was clean and free of clutter which gives a strong impression of organization. After asking my preferences, she quickly went to work on my doo. Her gift in my opinion is the skill of handling a straight razor. Each stroke was smooth and nicks were nonexistent. Besides the basic cut, there is list of services the barber offers the client. Hot towel, scalp rejuvenation and back massage are just some of the services offered to anyone seeking something extra. Negatives - The décor is reminiscent of the now closed CBGB's. Music piping through the sound system is a hodgepodge of 70's classic rock, Pop and Hip Hop. Though I can enjoy a 90's Jay-Z mega hit followed by a Beatles's tune from the Revolver album, the decibel level should be at a more suitable level, say music that is loud enough, but not so loud I cannot communicate with my barber, especially when trying to bond for return business. During my visit, I had to yell out my conversation rather than having a light discussion; it felt like I was getting a haircut at a rock concert which is something I would not recommend unless you are the antisocial type. It only gives off the appearance of masking a weakness on client relations. Overall - I'm open to coming back for a future cut. My barber was excellent. Super professional and never came off as a tart. Her blade skills are superb and should consider a side venture in custom lining. Value for my cut is within my budget; therefore, taking on Floyd's 99 or specifically this particular barber is foreseeable. I recommend this barber more so than Floyd's 99. Went to this location on Sunday because I really wanted a hair cut that day. I was put off a little bit by the decor and ambiance of the place but warmed up to it soon enough. After signing in as a walk-in, i did not have to wait long until my barber for the day, Lauren, greeted me with a friendly and professional attitude. I normally go to "my own hair place" and have done so for years so I was VERY worried that this hair cut would not be how I liked it... Lauren was great with communication and easily understood what I was looking for and executed it perfectly! The whole time she was talkative but focused and really put me at ease in the face of my first-time-in worries. The price was a little more than most barber shops I have seen (mine was about $20), but the quality and experience was worth it in my opinion. WILL GO BACK AGAIN! read more

Came here with my boyfriend and decided I might as well get a haircut. The haircut was really good, I have curly hair, but I wear it straight a lot so it was nice that she cut it to look good both ways. Unfortunately I then asked her when she blow-dried my hair if she could blow-dry it straight so I didn't end up with a lot of poof. My blow-dry cost more than my haircut. Seriously. I have never been charged more than $5, most times it is free with the haircut. I would have paid $30 if I hadn't complained to a manager about how ridiculous that was, she gave me an excuse about how that was what corporate made them charge and then took $20 off the price. I don't care if corporate makes you charge that, you have to let people know, especially new customers who are expecting this to be like most other places where they are not charged an arm and a leg for a simple blow dry. They don't have a price/sliding scale/any information on how much or how they determine the cost of a blow dry in the shop or on the website. read more
