First off the past 3 cuts was with Angie. I know I booked Angie online, but then junior called my name and sat me in his chair. I said I guess I'll give him a try since Angie was still busy for another 5-10 minutes. He did an okay job. But the last 3 cuts Angie knocked it out the park with a perfect haircut. She was the one who cut me before my wedding photos back in August 2025. I really wish someone would have mentioned that I was waiting for my barber Angie. But no one did, he did an okay job but not nearly as good as Angie. Also, the last 3 times I paid 38 plus trip for a haircut. I asked for a flat fade and he gave me a skin fade. So instead of being charged 38 like the last 3 times o got cut here with Angie, I was charged 45 with junior. Juniors haircut I would rate 7 out of 10, but the last 3 cuts with Angie I would rate 10 out of 10. Next time a book for a specific haircut for $38 and a specific barber please don't give me another random barber and charge me $45. read more

Sonja is an incredible stylist-- her consult is amazing--she listens and asks great questions and clarifies BEFORE cutting. I have 2B/3A hair and she treats it like curly hair, even though most stylists will try to cut it like straight hair. 0 star I had a 4:30 p.m. appointment at Floyd's in Evanston for a face shave and shampoo. I arrived at 4:25 and checked in right after a mother and son who also had a 4:30 appointment. Over the next 30 minutes, I watched three people who came in after me get called back, while I sat there completely ignored. No one acknowledged me. No update, no ETA, nothing. At 5:00, I walked out. I left because I refuse to give my time or money to a business that can't extend the most basic courtesy. I was also the only Black person in the shop, and frankly, that didn't feel irrelevant. This wasn't just a scheduling issue--it was a total lack of communication, professionalism, and respect. If you expect to be treated like a paying customer, I'd recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

I had blue hair. I now have deep purple streaks in my hair thanks to Daniel at Floyd's who helped correct a patchy dye job. He's patient, gentle and meticulous. I saw him at work finishing up a client just before my appointment. He did an awesome job completing a 1/2 and 1/2 two hued look split down the middle and it finished clean where you can see a true split in color. Knowing he did an excellent job with the last client, I knew I was in good hands. I'm really happy with my color and if I need a specialty color dye job, I'll be heading to Floyd's. read more

Been going here for 3 years and I finally had to give up today. Website / reservation system is a disaster. While I had a confirmation, my reservation was "lost" and could not be seen today. Previously, stylist decided to just not show up for the day. As I was first appointment, I waited for 20 minutes before I was told they could not locate her. Been going there for a couple of years for my son's biracial type hair. Angie R was amazing but apparently not there anymore. Went to a new woman who apparently had many years of experience. Uneven patches all over. I tried to tell her to fix spots but kept getting worse. My feeling is if you're not sure about your skills with certain hair please recommend someone else. Pretty sure it's been over 10 years since my last review and don't like to hurt anyone's feelings but I'm just frustrated. Good thing my son is on winter vacation so no embarrassment from classmates. So, I went in and had the quickest, who gives a care haircut; it was average at best; off hand, I was then asked in a corporate-style, scripted voice if I wanted the shoulder massage. It would have been nice if they spent more time on the haircut and perhaps trimmed my eyebrows. Wish I could leave a zero star review. Got my hair cut by Ike this afternoon and it was a disaster. He cut way more off than we'd discussed, and what he did cut was uneven and sloppy. Also left me with some bad razor burn. The store manager ended up basically fixing my hair, but while she did so Ike stomped around the shop literally yelling about me being emotional and taunting me. He wasn't reprimanded or asked to leave the floor. The manager even apologized for him but said he gets a little crazy sometimes as if that was an excuse. Got home and realized I have bad razor burns all over my neck and a really bad, uneven fade and uneven hairline all around my neck. When I called to tell them that I had razor burns, the receptionist said that sometimes happens and that she'd put a note in my file that I shouldn't get my hair cut by Ike. It can be a little tough for me to get a haircut I'm good with because I have a lot of allergies to stuff that's in cosmetics/hair care, and I'm not 100% sure on what all of it is. I talked with Willy about it, and they got me a great wash and cut without giving me a standard "shampoo" so I didn't have to worry. I just received a great haircut and beard trim from Nick B., who is a superstar. The Floyd's experience begins before I ever walked in. I used their website to make an appointment online so I wouldn't have to wait. I could even see which barbers and stylists were working that day. Took me 30 seconds! Love it! Keep in mind you pick the type of cut on the website ahead of time - a buzz cut is different from a "Floyd's cut" so if you don't know ahead of time pick the higher one. Despite the style of the salon being advertised as "punk rock" I was greeted friendly and professionally upon walking in, and my stylist was ready for me. Nick always does a fantastic job on my hair, and he's patient with me because I talk a lot during my haircuts; always asking him a bunch of "what if" and "what should I do with my hair" and "should I fade it high or ...?" questions and every time he gives me great friendly advice. After the cut, you are given the chance to request a rinse or a shampoo and a rinse. Why not treat yourself? The massage is great, too! I will keep coming back to this location as long as Nick is there. He gets me. read more

Guys looking for a barber: While Floyd's is technically a "barbershop" (see their name), don't assume you will actually be serviced by a real, licensed *barber* (unless you specifically request this upfront). I just "assumed" going there that I would be attended to by a licensed barber. To my chagrin - the gentleman cutting my hair indicated he wasn't a barber, but a *cosmetologist*...1/2-way through my cut. Supposedly they do employ actual barbers. Come and see Jeff-- it's rare to find a stylist that really cares about the art of barbering, and is able to turn out amazing work on a consistent basis on all of his clients. On top of that, he's incredibly friendly and most importantly: he listens. I worked in top salons in Chicago and NYC for a decade. I'm picky. Jeff's one of the few I'd trust with my hair. I've been going to the Floyd's in Lakeview for beard trims only, it's a bit of a hike as I live in Evanston and I was thrilled they opened up a location here. They had a $5 haircut special and I decided to give it a try. I was nervous as my hair is difficult to cut and I've had some bad experiences. Luckily the haircut turned out great! Senan did a great job and took the time to hear my concerns and worked with me throughout the haircut. The shampoo and warm face towel thing was amazing, I felt like I was in a sensory deprivation chamber for a bit, and then they do this back/shoulder massage thing on top of that. This is my new go to for sure and I'm glad I tried out the haircut (beard trim was also great per my usual Floyd's experience). I'd give them 6 stars if they served booze. Edit: my initial review was 5 stars. The next day after getting ready I'm the morning I realized the beard trim was completely botched. My beard is relatively long and the trim was uneven in many parts in large chunks. I didn't go in expecting anything out of the ordinary, but I was pleasantly surprised by the best experience I've ever had at a Floyd's location. The front desk girl who greeted me (I think her name was Ashley?) was super pleasant and made me feel at home right away. I got my hair ~did~ by a stylist named Tim, and let me tell you- my hair has never felt fresher. Not to mention, the conversation was great! We talked about anime, lmao. Gave this place a shot cuz I see it all the time by my house up on the north side and there's one in Evanston which is way closer than the ones downtown. So I decided to book a session. I guess it was their grand opening or something, I didn't notice until I walked in. And the only day I was open to do something, I guess worked out fine. lol Tim was good, seemed interested in what I had to say. Neighborhood is cool with the university right there. Only thing is they need to update google maps cuz at first I didn't think the place existed and trusted the address on their app (which is kind of outdated looking, but that's beyond the point). I booked an online appointment for a specific service that was available. Went in for my appointment, receptionist seated me and the barber asked me what I wanted. He had no problem performing the service but stated that he had to verify with his manager. Next thing you know she comes out from the back and right off the bat was raising her voice saying "we can't do that, you have to leave." I mentioned that I recently got this done at a different Floyd's and she didn't let me speak and proceeded to say that she didn't care. I get with the pandemic there is rules but to be talked to like that was very disrespectful especially if the service is showing up as available online. Situation could have been handled better.
