As a fixed-wing pilot, I thought I knew my way around the skies. But when it comes to helicopters, I admit I'm as clueless as a seagull in a wind tunnel. Enter Fly In Helicopters of Charleston--and specifically, Olive, our rockstar pilot, who gave my son, mother and me an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, Olive's professionalism and skill were clear. Not only did she treat us to a stunning sightseeing tour of Charleston, but she also turned it into an aviation masterclass for my 13-year-old son, Landon, who dreams of becoming a pilot himself. Olive, a commercial helicopter pilot and also CFI, immediately took Landon under her (ahem) rotor blade and shared her wealth of knowledge about helicopter operations. Her passion for flying and teaching was contagious, and it was obvious she loves what she does. Landon walked away more inspired than ever, and I walked away wondering if I should finally try my hand at rotary-wing flight. If you're considering a helicopter tour (or just want to meet one of the most talented and personable pilots around), do yourself a favor and book with Fly In Helicopters--and ask for Olive. She's a marvel in the air and a gift to aspiring aviators everywhere. Thank you, Olive, for a truly remarkable experience! Fly In Helicopters, you've got a gem of a pilot.

This has to be the coolest experience in Charleston to date! This was such a great time and my boyfriend picked an awesome adventure for us to give a go. So worth it no matter which package you choose. You can choose anywhere from a 5 minute flight to a 20 minute flight. Seeing Charleston from a bird's eye view was absolutely amazing! If you want stunning views of this town, then you must give this tour company a try. If you're daring, sit up front next to the pilot without the door. I can only imagine the thrill in that seat (my boyfriend loved it...I probably would have freaked out lol). Windows all around so not a bad view no matter which seat you take. The staff was awesome. I would go back and do it again in a heartbeat!

Incredible experience! They have four different tour options that are available for walk up purchase ranging from $35-$120. My friend and I decided to go all out for my birthday and do the Folly Beach tour which is marked at $120 and it's worth every single penny! Starting out from patriots point you fly out towards the mouth of Charleston Harbor along Sullivans Island before cutting across at the entrance of the harbor to head down towards Folly Beach. The views of the marsh were incredible and only topped by the incredible sites of the Folly Beach pier, the Morris Island lighthouse, and Fort Sumter before heading towards the Ravenel Bridge. It's an incredibly smooth experience and the pilot did a great job offering some brief insight into some of the landmarks and making us comfortable throughout the entire flight.

My boyfriend and I did the half hour sunset tour and it was an experience of a life time! Chris, the guide, was very knowledgeable about Charleston. Highly recommend! Thanks Chris!!

Fun way to see the Charleston area. Had a really good time. Good to be in a helicopter again. Thinking of getting my own to skip traffic.

Because my child is 19... the only complaint I would have if I had to give the good with the bad is that I wish one pool had been defined as "adults only" I was a stay at home mom for 12 years so no real complaint about the kids...I've already raised mine Kay Kay, your front desk receptionist was compassionate, friendly and just a delight to talk to. I'm wishing her much success inside this organization! Give her a raise or a bonus. All in all... we'll be back! Great weather! The food was just OK. The fish house was too expensive. Thx Again!

THE HOTEL: DON'T BE INTIMIDATED, This hotel is very nice & welcoming! The Staff were nice, they did volunteer to tell us that we're entitled to 2 free non alcoholic drinks from the marina store with the little wooden "coin" they give you on check in, BUT NOT that we were ALSO ENTITLED TO A FREE ICE CREAM per person, per day at the marina store, just show your room key! THE ROOM: I thought the room was nice, clean & very well situated with an incredible view of the ocean! The shower door is strange (only extended 1/2 way to middle of the tub), but I'll just have to angle the shower head down more, I'm short! The bed & sheets were clean & fresh so I fell right to sleep! The vent in the room could use a cleaning. The price off season ( January) is very reasonable during the week, the weekend can run you a little higher, like $170 or more depending I guess what you do. I guess for some people that is still reasonable. I guess I'm cheap, THEY NEED TO UPDATE THE BRUNCH SIGN! It's not Fri, Sat & Sun. It's just Sat & Sun. All in all...would stay here again!

During this time, I took my first flight with 1st CFI which was about 45min, I asked a ton of questions as to who would be my flight instructor, how long it would take and the cost. I was advised that the flight instructor will depend on a few factors, My schedule and compatibility. Great! On my second flight I was introduced to 2nd CFI, an older retired military pilot, we hit it off right away, during our first flight he introduced me to a few maneuvers, Slow flight and S-turns, he then asked if I have ever flown before, I advise just as a passenger. Things went well for the next 5 flights, Then Covid hit, for 3 months the school was closed. On 5/14 /2020 the school opened up and I was called, at that time I was advised the 2nd CFI would not be coming back so they paired me with a Younger CFI, I was concerned about this and because I began with 2nd CFI and already had time and money invested. It was explained to me that my log book will tell the story and not to worry because I would not have to start all over again that the new 3rd CFI will just continue where I left off with the 2nd CFI. I said OK and began working with 3rd CFI. We had flown from 05/14 /2020to 08/24/2021 fly approximately 3 to 4 times a month with some cancellations due to weather, maintenance and other life events. On 08/24/2021 we were scheduled to fly to Conway but I was advised that it would be my last flight with 3rd CFI as he was picked up by an airline which was great for him but my concerns grew once again, because I would have to work with yet another flight instructor. The next three flights were with 4th CFI, which was one of the worst instructors I had encountered in any profession. On the third flight I cut the flight short because he was too cavalier with safety and more concerned about building hours for himself rather than instructing. I had a conversation with him and provided him some feedback and explained that I cannot fly with him. At this point I was going to go elsewhere, the original owner at the time, apologized and got a new instructor and again my concern was time spent on training and money. She introduced me to my current instructor 5th, I was with him a few times and we also hit it off well. Here comes the hammer, the original owners decided to sell and retire, I was again concerned because I had accumulated 49 hours of flight training, 13.72 ground training and spent $10,785. Again, I was told not to worry that my logbook will tell the story and not much will change. Now 60.4hrs flight time, 21.64hrs ground a total of 82.32hrs and $13,720 spent, I was once gain mislead, the new owner has implemented a new process 6 months after he took over and without notice. According to this new process I am only now 30% completed and my instructor stated that unfortunately the time I spent with the school and instructor prior only will count as experience only. I didn't understand, experience comes from flying; I am paying them to teach. This feels to me as once the new owner took over everything prior is a wash. Now I am stuck, this is horrible.

During my first visit to Charleston a few years ago, I took one of their daytime carriage tours and left feeling... underwhelmed. I didn't learn all that much, the tour wasn't especially memorable, and I wrote that I'd rather have explored the city on foot. Fast forward to my most recent visit when one of my friends wanted to do the Haunted Carriage Tour. Since it was something different, I happily went along and I'm glad I did. Our horse, Ron, was a 2,000 pound French Percheron and wow.... talk about a workhorse! From what I observed, the horses seemed well cared for despite the small stable. It was fun learning a little about Ron before we set off. Our guide, Matt, was informative, engaging, and did a great job mixing Charleston history with the haunted stories. While I'm not really into ghost tours, I still learned quite a bit. In fact, my favorite takeaway wasn't haunted at all - it was learning the difference between a graveyard and a cemetery. This tour also had a digital component as we were prompted to scan the QR code to see photos of the individuals/"ghosts" he was talking about. The tour also gave us another opportunity to see Charleston from a different perspective and this time around I enjoyed riding through the historic streets by carriage. Overall, this experience was much more enjoyable than my first. The company clearly has these tours down to a science and if you're deciding between a daytime tour and the haunted evening tour, I'd surprisingly recommend the latter. I'm glad I gave Old South another chance.
