There are still good things about it but there was a lot we wish we knew in advance so I'm sharing in case helpful. --It's a great indoor space and they're very flexible with respect to how many kids you can bring --They let you in 15 mins early to prep - the group before had left a bunch of garbage that hadn't been cleared out, but we were still ready on time --The biggest change seems to be guided activities - they used to take the kids through guided activities but in our case this didn't happen at all. 35 mins into the party we realized the coach and front desk person were deep in conversation at the front desk, so asked them to gather the kids. They then had them in a circle for a few minutes and pushed 3-4 kids on a swing for 5 mins then let the kids scatter again. The vast majority of the time was unguided --They played Usher and Shaggy pretty loud but that may always have been the case even with old ownership and tbh we didn't really mind --They don't help clear trash or anything so we were running around looking for bags. Other parents helped us clean up at the end. The two staff members helped us load the car after the party which was helpful --They don't help with the cake or gather the kids. We managed to do this but right as we had lit the candles and were making our way to the kids the coach asked if he could have some pizza - not the end of the world but reflects how disconnected the staff was with what was happening at the party and not what we expected given prior experiences It's still a good venue. We might have chosen it knowing what we know now but would have had very different expectations and prepped differently - sharing in case helpful to others.

My daughter attends the Saturday morning gymnastics class. Unfortunately, our experience has been…read morevery inconsistent depending on the instructor. Shawn, the instructor who teaches at the same time is excellent, he interacts with the children, encourages them, gives positive feedback, and creates a supportive learning environment. The kids in his group seem engaged and confident. However, the female instructors assigned to the other group have been very disappointing. They show the course once and then mostly stand and watch. There is very little interaction, no encouragement, and no guidance throughout the class. These are 4- and 5-year-old children who need support, engagement, and positive reinforcement. I rarely hear a "good job" or see active coaching. Week after week, the level of enthusiasm and involvement from these instructors has been lacking. For young children especially, energy, facial expression, encouragement, and interaction make a huge difference in their experience and development. I truly hope the program can ensure a consistent standard of quality across all instructors, because the difference between groups is very noticeable.

When I asked what the payment was for, I was repeatedly talked over and the staff member (Auriyon) seemed put out by having to explain. The call began by noting it was recorded for training purposes, so hopefully Roger reviews these calls and uses them as a coaching opportunity.

I was driving my daughter to Marin from SF for more than 3 years 4-5 times per week. Crazy, right?…read moreNot quite. This is a place the people move in order to be close to. It deserves 10 stars. First, this is Rhythmic Gymnastics (quite rare sport, the one with ribbons and hoops, not the beams and bars ). Second, this is one of the best places for this sport on the West Coast, and actually, the US. The girls there (it is all girls sport) are the best in state, regional and national competitions. But the main thing we loved about this club is the coach. Coach Natasha is absolutely wonderful. She is strict, demanding, professional, and kind. She loves every one of her students, knows them and respects them. She is fair. My daughter placed 4th in the regionals and was in the junior Olympic team. But the things she learned there are far more valuable. She learned how to work, to concentrate, how to push herself to the limit, and how rewarding it is. She learned how to pull herself together and do it again, 5, 10, 100 times more. She learned true friendships, (the way the girls support each other I would never think possible). And that driving - I would do it again without hesitation. Thank you, Natasha! You can come for recreational sport or if you decide to compete the sky is the limit. There are two shows per year, one in January and one at the end of May, and if you are still thinking, take your small girl and come see for yourself, chances are you will not want to leave.

Additionally, their team of teachers are also very decorated and great with the students. Small groups pull out during class for dedicated skill work sessions, super fun summer camps, weekday adult workouts, movie nights for families, they've thought of it all! I really appreciate the male leadership they demonstrate and how intentional they are to bring the level of expectation up when a child may be stubborn or unwilling/scared to try. They really bring out the best in their students! Appreciate you guys a ton!

My kids and I have been going to The Dojo for over a year now and have all benefited a lot from it…read more Sifu Phil is the real deal, having studied and taught several martial arts for decades, and has incredibly deep knowledge to pull from. He's also a great teacher for people of all ages and levels. My kids still refer to what they are learning as "karate" but are really learning a variety of American Kenpo, informed by Sifu Phil's other experience with boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, and more, striking a balance between traditional and practical. Many of the younger kids' classes are taught by Mr. Noah and Mr. Henry, who both have their own teaching styles but who all the kids love. They are both black belts who have been with The Dojo for a long time. Don't expect to get a black belt in a year or two! What I learn in the Monday and Wednesday (as of this writing) adult Tactical Kickboxing classes is a mixture of open-hand techniques and Western kickboxing. We spar--safely and with control--most nights to build up experience and understand how things really work. No hot dogs or tough guys with something to prove tolerated. Sifus Phil and Rachelle also encourage youth development through The Dojo's junior instructor program that allows kids of the right age, level and temperament start guiding other kids. The program has produced some really remarkable kids. The black belts act appropriately for their rank--it's not a badge, it's a responsibility. Finally, on a practical note, The Dojo is kept very clean! Hopefully this is helpful. I highly recommend The Dojo.
