Just went on an amazing Deep Sea Fishing trip on the Patriot for a half-day (8am-1pm) excursion. So cool! We arrived at Port Slo at 7:15am and the adults 16 and older bought a one day fishing license for $15.10, signed the manifest, and left the port by 8:00am. We took lots of youth (ages 8-18) with other adults, the majority of whom had never fished or even been on a boat at sea. One in our group got sea seasick. Make sure to take your dramamine one hour before you leave the port. What a fun day! Most everyone got their limit of 10 fish. We caught lingcod, johnny bass, vermillion, as well as plenty of brown and blue rockfish. There is food you can buy on the boat and they allow you to bring your own food and drinks. The crew were super helpful in helping us bring in the fish once we caught them so we could easily place them into our own numbered bag. They helped us undo bird's nests (when your line gets all jumbled up when you let your line out too quickly). They also cleaned our fish ($1 each for regular size and $3 large fish). They appreciate tips too so please bring lots of cash. Everyone on our trip had a blast!!!! Well, of course, everyone minus the one in our group who was sick the whole time providing chum for the Pacific and simultaneously working on the abs "ralphing" on the side of the boat. Everyone wanted to go back and I highly recommend this outfit to make it happen for you.

My family and I were lucky enough to be able to fish on the Flying Fish today captained by Wayne along with his deckhand Mark. What a great couple of guys! Hands down the best fishing experience on a 1/2 day boat! Captain Wayne works diligently to put his anglers on top of as many fish as possible. Everyone easily caught their limits and about everyone caught a Ling! Captain Wayne and Mark ensure that their anglers are always taken care of and don't hesitate to share their expertise and educate. Hands down the best boat we've been on and we will definitely be fishing with this outfit again! I would highly recommend the Flying Fish for your next ocean adventure!

They both wished to be cremated and have their ashes mixed together and scattered in front of Pirates Cove, which is where they shared their first kiss at the end of their first date in 1960. Unfortunately, that area is now a nude beach and it's people no one wants to see naked. Additionally, we had a pretty good sized crew of people coming for the scattering, so little zodiac boats weren't gonna get the job done. I lucked out in 2023 because the start of the fishing season got pushed into May. This allowed us to rent one of patriot charters and accommodate our entire crew for the scattering in a very safe, easy to access (we have many elderly folks with mobility issues) manner. I was concerned there may be an odor because it IS a fishing vessel, but everything was very clean and well kept. The staff were so incredibly considerate of our loss and behaved in an incredibly kind way. Instructions were simple and concise, and we were able to leave right on time, cruising the bay and playing some of Moms and dad's favorite music as we celebrated their journey. Moments after we scattered their ashes, the captain approached me quietly and slipped me a business card with the exact coordinates of where we had sprinkled mom and dad. That was going above and beyond as far as I'm concerned, and it never even dawned on me to ask for that - but I'm sure glad I have it. It is now a very tasteful, small tattoo signifying my parents final resting place. Thank you so much to patriot fishing, I know this wasn't a fishing review, but I can only imagine how good they take care of their fishing customers if this is how they treat grieving families. A million thank yous for your kindness!

The boat was extremely comfortable and super easy to get on and off. Only 6 people so everyone is able to see the show. Captain Mark is personable, experienced and safety conscious. While you can never be guaranteed as to what you will see, the experience we had totally exceeded our expectations - lots of whales breaching and showing off their flukes and dolphins accompanied us for a while playing alongside the boat. This was my first trip with this company, but it won't be my last!

We saw multiple groups of whales lunge feeding, with whales, sea lions, and tons of birds all feeding together. We also saw lots of dolphins and had a chance to cruise alongside them for a while. Our guide, Mark, was fantastic. He clearly knew the whales and their behavior, always kept us informed about what was happening and where to look, and was happy to answer all of our questions. The highlight came when Mark spotted a whale away from where we were watching and decided to head over to check it out--even though we were already seeing some incredible activity. We're so glad he did. Shortly after we got there, the whale breached right in front of our boat! An unforgettable moment that we never would have experienced without Mark's knowledge and instincts. Our original trip had actually been canceled the day before because of bad weather. While that was obviously disappointing, it was completely outside their control, and we really appreciated how they handled it. They added an extra third trip the following day so they could accommodate us. We also brought our three-and-a-half-year-old along, and he had a great time. He was comfortable throughout the trip and really enjoyed the experience. It may not be for every three-and-a-half-year-old, but it definitely worked great for ours! It was the best whale-watching experience our family could have asked for. It truly couldn't have been any better!

The short story: you absolutely will not regret going on a trip with Maya Sailing Adventures! It's personal, private, beautiful, fun, easy, and so relaxing. The long story: my sister in law's wedding was postponed due to COVID-19. So the day of her wedding we planned a surprise sailing excursion with Captain Terry. My first impression was that he was incredibly easy to plan with. Everything was up to me. I could bring anything I wanted to make it a special night. It was so easy to plan and get all set up! So we set up a 4 hour sail around the bay for 4 people. After 2 hours he would drop my husband and I off and let my sister in law and her fiancé sail together for the last 2 hours. My biggest concern was that it wouldn't feel private enough for such a special occasion. No reason to worry at all, actually it was incredibly intimate and romantic and very private. If you'd like to chat with Captain, you can, but otherwise he is manning the boat and you are on our own in the front of the boat. It was so private and felt like we were on the boat by ourselves. I set up a charcuterie board and wine tasting with 5 different types of wines. Then we ordered a steak dinner from Windows on the Water and served it to them before they set sail on their own. That's the awesome thing about Maya - it's completely customizable for YOU. We sailed around the bay and relaxed and saw so many otters - mommas and babies! And even a baby seagull! Seeing the animals was so fun. My sister in law and fiancé then went out of the bay and sailed a little bit and saw A WHALE! I was so jealous. But seriously- how amazing? I CANT WAIT to do another trip with Captain Terry. One day, I would like to do the same thing but with only my husband and I... But my sister in law and her fiancé had a wonderful time and so did we. It was one of the best date nights of my life and I can't wait to do it again! You won't regret a sail with Captain Terry and Maya Sailing Adventure!

BEAUTIFUL TIDAL BEACH WITHOUT A REAL NAME…read more~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This fantastic beach which cannot be used at high tide, since it is covered with TONS of H2O!, is AMAZINGLY HUGE AT LOW TIDE & populated WITH STRANGE & WONDERFUL NON-HUMAN CREATURES! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ & SAY HELLO TO YOUR DISTANT RELATIVES! During the lowest tides, many Tidepools are revealed that are tiny worlds to themselves, where the law of the aquatic jungle prevail, over the lives of a plethora of wonderous creatures of all sizes, who evolved way before man walked the earth! (Please see the Pics for Ebb Tide Park that overlooks many views of this Beach...most are pics of a low tide where you can see where the Tidepools, Sand, & Happy Beach goers are) You will discover zillions of Snails; Anemones waving to drag small creatures (or your finger...ha...ha...ha, if are foolish enough to let it digest it) into them; Hermit crabs maybe searching.. for a bigger shell; Sea Urchins as sharp as balls of needles; Tube worms & Sea Cucumbers who look like creatures from a BILLION years ago.... & a huge supporting cast of Shrimps, Barnacles, & multitude more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT MESS WITH THEM nor HURT THEM.... See the SLO Vistor's Guide Website for details at http://www.slovisitorsguide.com/explore-the-tidepools On the Pismo Parks Website, they have it listed as part of the South Palisades Park (on the overlooking cliff), which ironically lacks the staircase down to the water....but you can find staircases on either end which are also small parks on the overlooking cliffs. At the South End, next to Ebb Tide Park which is again just on the Cliff, there is a trail/ staircase which is starts right at the corner of the Cliff's hotel there. At the North End, you have the South Palisades Park Staircase. Between the two staircases & extending at both ends, you have one of the largest nicest Beaches in Shell Beach. It is confusing as to how to find this beach since you can find it on Goggle Maps, but lacks an address & the official Pismo Beach website is also confusing since it names and describes only the overlooking or nearby Parks such as: Ebb Tide (cliff, but no beach access), South Palisades Park (cliff, benches, grass, & beach access), and Palisades Park (which has playgrounds at one end & across Shell Beach road it continues with free Tennis & Basketball Courts. =============================================== Again, at another LOW TIDE, ~~~~~~~~~ you are in for a treat as you can explore the many tide pools, that are populated with a plethora of amazing sea creatures. THEY are eagerly awaiting, HIGH TIDE, ~~~~~~~~~~ to come back. ================================================ Since these creatures are protected or endangered in one way or another, please do not bother them. Looking is fine. They do have some pics of them up on top of the cliff near the staircase that goes to the Palisades (named after the Chumash Village that was there way before the houses, and before an oil refinery....). The word "Pismo" was derived from a Chumash name that named some tar critical to make their boats seaworthy enough to get to the Channel Islands- Goggle it, Dinosaur Caves, & Pismo Beach. While it makes for a nice walk, you would have to either walk back to where you started, or walk up to Shell Beach Road to get back. The Cliff Parks &/or Beach/Parks all along Shell Beach are generally not connected either on top of the Cliffs, nor by the water...unless you use a Kayak or a Surf board. At high tides, the waves go lapping at the bottom of the stairs, and the huge expanse of beach is hidden again... I guess this is why they do not really go into it on the city website. If you happen to dine or stay at one of the three hotels that lines the Cliffs, from the Cliffs, to Dolphin Bay Inn (Lido's), to Spyglass Inn. which all have a continuous concrete walk from Spyglass to the trail/stairs just after Cliffs, then it really is fun to take a walk down to the beach at low tide...but be careful...since those stairs are not the safest. Have fun & be careful....especially with kids.... watch them!!!! Also DO NOT SWIM... IT IS NOT A SWIMMABLE BEACH... IF HYPOTHERMIA DOES NOT GET YOU, THE RIP CURRENTS WILL. Besides, getting DASHED AGAINST THE ROCKS is not great for your COMPLEXION... ... for family friendly swimming, go to nearby AVILA BEACH for that & a bigger selection of kid friendly food. BTW- Now that Yelpers have a "proper" listing to Yelp, go to it! :)
