The Harbor Cruise was a highlight of our family trip of two adults and 2 young teens! We were lucky to get 4 spots just 2 days ahead. It was a lovely boat and felt like a super private cruise. Captain Michael was our tour guide and even though we didn't get to see a whale, he found a school of dolphins we were able to watch for a while. Mike was the best captain! He had a clean, big, safe boat and was extremely accommodating, kind and fun! He talked us through each part of the trip and we saw 50+ whales! It was incredible! We followed the birds and sea lions and came upon the perfect spot to stay and circle and saw so many whales up close! I have never had this whale watching experience ever in my life! I've had family go on other tours in Monterey and Hawaii and be severely disappointed to come back and see nothing. Mike was so excited for us to see that many whales and did everything safely to get us up close! I would suggest September and October to board his boat and see amazing humpback whales! read more

I highly recommend this harbor tour! (In the summer they do whale watching tours also). Captain Michael takes you around the harbor in a nice, quiet, comfortable boat. He gives you history of the harbor. And motors past the sea lions, birds, jellyfish and gorgeous rocks and caves. In April, when we went the waters were calm and a beautiful turquoise. It's really relaxing and mellow. You can sit outside in the front or back of the boat. Or sit in comfy seats inside the boat. It was the favorite part of my weekend in Avila. You can also rent him and the boat out for the day by yourselves! We will be back! read more

Loved this tour!!! Mike is hilarious and the music choices made an already great boat ride epic. Comfortable boat and he is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the water. We got to see sea lions, birds, and sea otters up close. We also get some high-speed "jumps" through the water. I went by myself but the family that was also on the boat had kids and I was cracking up the whole time at the exchanges between the kids and Mike. I imagine each ride is a little bit different depending on who's touring and what the weather's like. Would totally go again!! read more

We took our grandson on the harbor tour last week and he had a blast! Captain Michael let him sit in the co-captain seat inside the cabin. We saw sea otters and sea lions and awesome views of the shoreline. Michael is great with kids and has a great sense of humor. The water was calm and the one hour ride was perfect for the grandson's first time in a boat. There was seating outside on the boat in addition to three seats (+ the captain) inside. We were even able to take our little mini schnauzer with us, so we didn't have to find a doggie day care. Reasonably priced. Next time we want to do the whale watching tour. July-November for that. We also want to spend a bit more time exploring the cute little town of Avila. read more

My two daughters and I booked a noon tour. We barely arrived on time and I thought we were going to be part of a large group. It turned out that we were the only guests for the tour! Captain Mike was very easy going and professional. He allowed us to tour his very comfortable boat, and even made the restroom accessible! Mike's affable personality added to the relaxation of the 1.5 hour tour. We were able to experience incredible vistas from a totally different perspective, that is, from the ocean instead of the highway (where my eyes are supposed to stay on the road... Lol!). Mike also pointed out some seals and sea otters, and other animals in their natural habitat. He even pointed out interesting facts about the birds on White (ah hum) Rock called Brandt's cormorants. We also learned some history around Pirates Cove, and experienced Mike's extensive knowledge of the waters around the area. It was a very pleasurable experience that I will likely sign up for again soon! read more

This was one of the best things I did while on vacation in San Luis Obispo! The tour guide, Mike, was so nice and friendly, and went above and beyond showing us the beautiful harbor of Avila and sharing with us spots he thought were good places to check out and eat at. The tour is amazing, I saw sights and views I would have never have seen. On the tour, there were so many different parts that felt like Hawaii, to Ireland, to Alaska.
