I LOVE this place, and considering the dancing and running back and forth in her seat whenever I pull in, my dog loves it too. To be fair, I do have small 14lb dog that they can usually squeeze in which is not the case for people with big dogs. But, I've had nothing but great experiences here, I love their Facebook page where I can usually find pictures with my pup, and they often tell me stories about my pup very I pick her up. I love this place, but more importantly, my dog loves this place. I've lived in multiple states and have had to use numerous boarders for my dog. This is the first time I've felt completely comfortable when leaving my dog. Prior to being able to leave your pet overnight, they have to have spent a day in daycare being evaluated by the staff. The "temperament test" was only $5 when I did it and it's an opportunity for the staff to see how your dog interacts with others. Unlike most boarding facilities, there's no extra charge for your dog to be taken out of its crate for "play time". At Flying Fur, it's play time all day! They have a large facility, both outdoors and indoors, where the dogs all run free all day long. This is why the temperament test is important, to ensure more dominant dogs are not allowed into the population. Obviously, the major selling point for me is that the dogs are free roaming all day versus being crated. My dog doesn't play a whole lot, but it's a great feeling to know he's lying out in the sun and fresh air watching others play. The staff is comprised of dog trainers, so they definitely know how to care for your pet. And they definitely have an apparent love for animals. For no additional charge, Flying Fur offers little things here and there that make your visits special. I often leave my dog for extended weekends, and if your dog stays 3+ days, then they get a bath before going home. They just concluded their latest pig ear season, where certain days will get your dog a free pig ear. A few times a year, they'll have a professional photographer in to photograph your pooch if you'd like. We really are happy that we came across Flying Fur. We've been going for over a year now and they've never disappointed. I've scheduled stays weeks in advance, or called the night prior, and have always been accommodated. They've taken good care of my dog, and he always comes home happy and worn out. We won't go any other place for our boarding needs. read more

I will NEVER bring my dog here again. I took my bulldog for her observation day before boarding and did not take her back the next day. After less than a day, she came home with bloody and blistered paws and was unable to walk without limping. It's a week later and her nail beds all have blood under them and she has a huge bruise on her abdomen. I have no idea what happened while she was there, but I strongly recommend taking your dog ANYWHERE but Flying Fur. read more

I absolutely love this place. My dog loves this place. Every time we pull up he starts to wag his tail and get anxious. He always runs to manager for a cuddle. Without this place we both wouldn't be as happy. I've brought my dog here 2-3x/wk for the past year or so and I have never had a problem. My husband is away in the military and having my dog with me is really important. That can be challenging with full-time work/school schedules but flying fur understands. They have a service to pick and drop off you can sign up for if you're too busy. We're both happy at the end of the day- he is less anxious and so am I :) The staff is friendly and they really know the dogs that come there. I feel comforted knowing he will be in good hands throughout the day and can focus on my work. I never worry about him when he is here and he loves it. I THANK YOU FLYING FUR! read more

Meh, my experience wasn't nearly as good as some of these other reviewers. I called Flying Fur to make an appointment to board our puppy for the weekend and they told me that he would need to come in for an "evaluation day" because he had never been there before. We took him in on a weekday morning and I wanted a tour first before I left him there but they said they couldn't do it in the morning but would give me one when I picked him up. That was fine but definitely added to my anxiety. And (I know this is going to sound crazy), I was so upset that we were leaving our puppy alone for the first time that I practically started balling in front of the receptionist guy. My husband kept telling me to "pull it together" but I was so worried about leaving him. So, as I'm filling out paperwork and crying, the guy just took my scared puppy away behind my back, pulling him into the kennel room without allowing me to pet him or say goodbye or anything. OK, so I realize I was being crazy but I thought that was a bit insensitive. Also, after having gone to another kennel, I realized that Flying Fur never asked me for my dog's vaccination records, particularly his rabies vaccine. I thought that was weird and realized that he was there the whole day with potentially unvaccinated dogs. They said I could call during the day to check up on him so, of course, I did and all I got was, "Oh, yeah, he's doing well." Then, when we picked him up, I got the tour. First of all, they wouldn't show me the kennel room because, as the lady who was giving me the tour said, it was "such a mess" - not a good sign. (Others have also told me that sometimes kennels don't show the kennel room because it's a privacy issue or some BS like that but I think I should be able to see where my dog is going to spend most of his day.) I asked her during the tour how many dogs they typically have and she said they cap it at 65 which seemed super high to me. Also (and I realize that this is a kennel), the grounds were simply dirty and nothing like the Yelp pictures. The outdoor space is basically on a hillside with not a ton of running/playing space and some of the space is even in the woods. I wasn't impressed. What really got me was that the whole point was for me to drop him off for an evaluation day and they basically didn't even know who my dog was. I asked for the evaluation and the receptionist guy told me he was "good, but I'd like to have him back for further evaluation at some point so if you guys ever want to board him here or something like that...." - DUDE! (a) You clearly didn't watch/"evaluate" him at all while he was here and (b) the whole purpose of this visit was to get him to board here this weekend! Some of my friends talk about getting report cards when they drop their dog off for day care but I got nothing like that. And, lastly, the price: $33/night is the most expensive price around and this place is so not worth it! We ended up taking him to Catawba Country Kennel (far away but totally worth it...) and they were everything that Flying Fur wasn't. read more

Never heard of needing an animal to spend all day somewhere for an "evaluation" before being able to board and could not hold or guarantee a spot pending the evaluation. Said it was first come first serve. Said they couldn't hold a spot because the dog wasn't in their system and had to have an evaluation day to get in their system. I've checked around the entire Blacksburg/Christiansburg area. The Flying Fur gave us a false sense of being the best for our pet. The idea of being able to play twice a day with other pets was appealing verses being trapped in a crate all day. Unfortunately, the area which the pets play is very hard on their paws. The rocks causes unbelievable damage to your dogs paws between the joints. His paws were so irritated and red that he cried from just us touching them to place medication on them. Our dog also has food and outdoor allergy issues which we expressed. He is on a specific diet and medication that has to be adhered to. Unfortunately, the staff decided to give our dog wet food with his medication instead of the cheese that we requested and brought with us. Needless to say that when we picked up our dog, he had scratched off his fur in several patches and was totally irritated in several areas of his body. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! Also be aware of how your pet is stacked on top of another crate in a tiny boarding area that will not provide AC in the hottest days of the summer. Luckily our boarding weekend was not hot or too cold. The staff will sell you on their wonderful fan system that provides ventilation. DON'T BE FOOLED. I wish I could show everyone how bad my dog looks after being at this facility. My wife cried once she saw him and was furious about his condition. WE WILL NEVER RETURN. read more

We've been sending our dog here for daycare and boarding for about 1 1/2 years. The facility is wonderful, the staff is caring and I can't say enough good things. Most importantly, our dog LOVES coming here! He gets to have playtime, nap time, snack time - it's like preschool for dogs! As a bonus, Flying Fur also has a "Barking Bus" that will pick up your dog in the morning from your home and/or drop him off in the evening. This service has been such a convenience for us! They also provide nail trimming services. It's just a fabulous place!!!!! read more

This place is not for all dogs but mine loves it. He gets to run around all day instead of being cooped up at home or in a run. He comes home pretty dirty, but what do you expect. If you have an active and social dog then this is the place. The folks here are nice. So what's the down side? The price is pretty high compared to other places, and I don't really like the sleeping arrangements (all the dogs are stacked up in a crate room and I wonder if some of them just howl anxiously all night long). If the dogs had private runs for overnight I would give 5 stars. read more

We love flying fur and our old english sheepdog loves it there. After three overnight stays your dog gets a free bath before coming home. Our dog loves the place and comes home clean and tired. What could be better?! read more
