Sorry if this is long but something seriously needs to be done about this!!! I just had the worst day today. I took my dog and cat to get groomed at Heartstrings pet lodging and spa on PHD. A girl named Megan groomed my cat. This is Leo. It was his first time going to the groomer. I've always been the one to groom him and he's never been aggressive... I took pictures of my cat before bringing him in incase anything happens, which is him on the left, before the groomers. Not even 15 min later I bring my dog back so she can wait to get groomed while Leo is getting groomed. The lady comes running out saying I should take my cat to the vet. I say what do you mean?? I walk in and see him on the table, they lift up a whole flap of skin and all I see is this huge gash! It looked like he was sliced by a knife and it was about 2 inches long. They said the wound was already here when I brought him in. Alright my cat had nothing wrong with him before I took him here. I IMMEDIATELY took Leo to the vet and the vet said this wound is FRESH. That it did not look like a puncture wound from another animal. That it either had to be the groomer or he got caught on bobwire which isnt possible under the circumstances. I waited for the owner of Heartstrings to arrive. He was a very rude old man named Rick. He didnt want to believe that my cat was wounded by his groomer even though everything is pointing to the groomer. I was very upset and he wasnt wanting to do anything about this situation or have any care about what happened to my cat. He refused to pay my cats vet bill and was just absolutely SURE that the groomer didnt do it even though theres NO CAMERAS! I have a picture of my cat right before taking him. I wish I got a picture of the gash but I was so stressed about taking him to the vet I didnt think about taking a picture I just have one after the staples and $300 vet bill. Can someone please help me on what to do about this situation because justice has to be done and I feel so left in the dark with this! read more

My almost 2-year old Golden Retriever, Macho, stayed at Heartstrings' day camp this past Saturday while attending a football game. We dropped him off bright and early and picked him up after the game, almost 12 hours later. With a game ticket, the price for the day camp was reduced to only $16! The staff was friendly and the facility was impressive--lots of room for the dogs to run and play. They even have a pool, which Macho didn't go in, but I bet he wanted to. They sent Macho home with a report card outlining his day--what he did, who he played with, when he ate and went to the bathroom. Now, 24 hours later, he is still sleeping which means he had a LOT of fun. It takes a lot to wear him out. Next time we return to Blacksburg I will definitely drop Macho off for the day. read more

We take our golden retrievers and poodle here to be groomed. Their prices are better than Pet Smart. Their work is fantastic. Expect your dogs tone there most of the day for grooming. Located off Patrick Henry, before the Blacksburg rec and aquatic center. 4 out of 5 because you need to make an appointment in advance. They typically don't do walk ins. read more

We take our pup, Toby, to Heartstring every few months for a grooming. They always do a great job and we are very happy with the service. He always smells good when we pick him up. We take Toby to the day lodging every so often so he can play with other dogs. He is always worn out! read more

We were extremely disappointed with their front staff office manager, Matt. Treatment of animals and customers were highly unprofessional and negligent. TWICE they locked our dog up with the harness left on him (he has a collar). He chewed up his harness because he was left in it- their response....."oh well". No apology for the $60 harness they left on. Negligent. Animals should not be left unattended with a harness on especially overnight. Safety concern!! In addition, they used an entire large bag of dog food that we brought in an entire week. This was obviously was used to feed other animals since the bag was emptied. Again, front desk manager Matt, unprofessional with no apology. "That's the way it is". This place is rated high because there is no other place in Blacksburg. They take advantage of this with being okay for unprofessional and rude behavior. No hospitality here and definitely cannot trust them to be honest and take care of your sweet babies. So far I've had a great experience with Heartstrings pet lodging and spa. I have used their grooming and lodging services thus far and am very happy with both. The groomer, Erin, is VERY sweet and has a great way with animals. I think my dog actually enjoys getting groomed by Erin (and that's a first for my dog!) :) Also, the staff on the lodging side of this business are very gentle and caring. Heartstrings shows good attention to detail, and cares for each animal as an individual. Because my dog is a rescue animal, it is especially important to me that my dog be given extra love and TLC since she has separation anxiety. I appreciate the separate lodging "suites" since my dog does not like to socialize with other pups. I will be trying their daycare services soon too! I am very happy with Heartstrings. read more

After a few undesirable boarding experiences at other establishments in town, I have had back to back great experiences at Heartstrings. When I drop my pup off, his tail is wagging and when I pick him up, it's still wagging. It doesn't get much better than that! read more

Great prices for great work. My dog has always been a pain to take to get her nails trimmed to the point where Petco and PetSmart won't take her anymore because she doesn't cooperate. Heartstrings groomers were very patient with her, putting her comfort first and even allowing me to come back and scratch her butt to calm her down. Thank you heartstrings! Great place for your dogs. Their own separate little rooms, not cages. Huge fenced in yard. They loved my dog.

My mutt Sandy stayed for 4 days and seemed to thrive. He's a bit nerotic and tends to scratch of fur when unhappy but came out of the experience without "holes". Very nice and competent people, will do business with them again. read more

I can't write a full review as I've not gotten to experience their services yet. They were unable to groom my dog, due to her fear. I have a fear-aggressive dog, and the 'new school' approach to grooming, will only enable a dog who is willing without any restraint be groomed. If that were the case with my dog, I'd do it myself! So I thought I'd try their day care service to help socialize my dog further and reduce her fear, as suggested by the Heartstrings staff. Well, they made the suggestion, but failed to say they are fully booked with regular day care clients! I'm a little frustrated. These definitely seem to be dog people, but maybe not people - people : ) read more
