Although I'm a business owner now, I'm still a consumer too. I remember needing to call a company to fix the washer machine. The bill I got didn't match the satisfaction of the completion of the job. It happens and unfortunately - in my opinion - occurs frequently. As many Americans experience, too often do we pay more than what the final product was worth. That being said, the good companies are out there. I know, because I have worked for some great people. I didn’t come from money or a business background - I came from labor. I started in a Butcher's Shop the week of my 13th birthday. Over the years I worked in manufacturing, as a stone mason, driving 18 wheelers, arboriculture and tree climber, remote logging operations off the coast of Alaska, in local municipalities, mechanic, heavy equipment operator, I could go on. I’ve always believed that if you do the job right, encourage others to do their best, muster through the tough days, and treat people with respect, you’ll build something worth standing behind. I started stump grinding part-time while working a full-time job. Hustling on weekends, evenings, and early mornings before my full-time job, whatever it took. All while attempting to balance home life and the desire to create a better life through hard work and consistency.

Of all the great and terrible experiences I've had with businesses in this world, THIS was the one so exceptional that I finally pulled the trigger! We bought a house with a horrible roof. It had an illegal number of shingle layers on it, no decking, holes in the eaves that had basically been mended with duct tape and squirrels and bats had infested the attic, there were myriad leaks that had never been truly addressed over the decades, etc. It was a nightmare and just knowing how bad it was was stressing us out so much ever since 2014 when we bought the house. We got several bids from roofers, and met with I think three in person. The first two were fine, and their bids were pretty low, but they didn't inspire much confidence. They took no measurements or photos, gave no specifics, didn't really take the time to educate us about all the issues and choices etc. When Ryan from Jancewicz showed up it was such a relief. He was so professional, so knowledgeable and smart, listened so closely to all of our weird questions and concerns, and took tons of measurements. Then he put together a comprehensive (it's like 10 pages long) bid complete with pictures of the roof, close-ups of problem areas, the flashing around the chimney etc. The bid contained specs and estimates for several different kinds of roof--cheaper asphalt; nicer asphalt; standing seam metal. It was so much information and made us feel so confident in making our decisions. When Ryan came back out to the house he sat at our kitchen table with us for such a long time, walking us through everything, answering our questions, and just generally radiating confidence and trustworthiness. As soon as he left we both instantly agreed that we would hire Jancewicz even though the bids were higher than the first two we'd gotten; it was just so clear we were going to get a dramatically better product and have a better experience. The winter went by and as summer began we started getting nervous. When would the roofers come? What would happen when they arrived? This is our first house and we don't really know anything about this sort of serious specialized job; we were just generally anxious. Ryan kept us informed of the timeline and was great about staying in touch. When the roofing crew arrived we met the next great Jancewicz employee who shall live long in legend around our house--Bruce, the foreman. Bruce was AMAZING. Such a solid, knowledgeable, honest, careful person. He explained how everything would work and worked out with me various things like how they would access electricity, a kind of general timeline of what aspects of the job would happen at what time, where we wanted the skylights we were getting installed, etc. It was Bruce and a team of, I think, five other guys, who did the whole job. They were here for roughly three weeks, as it was a huge job (stripping off four layers of shingles and doing a bunch of construction where parts of the roof had rotted, then laying the custom-cut metal panels for the new roof--plus we have a complicated hip roof so the job had some maybe unusual complexities). I was at home for most of it. The guys could not have been cooler--so pleasant and hardworking and gracious even though our stupid dog barked at them every single time they knocked on the door or tried to come into the attic to work on the skylights. They were absolutely professional in every way. It became such a pleasure to come outside each day and say hey and see the progress they'd made. They went above and beyond in several ways I would like to detail but I am running out of space. Just trust me that they did extra stuff that they did not have to do. Just because they are helpful and ethical and wanted us to be happy with the job. They just finished the job today and I keep going outside just to stare up at our gorgeous, unbelievable new metal roof. Everyone loves it--our neighbors are into it, and while they were still working on it, strangers would see me on the sidewalk and tell me how great it looked. Our bat and squirrel guy says it's the best looking metal roof he's seen in this town. I truly feel emotionally moved by how great this experience was from top to bottom, from Ryan to Bruce to all the guys to the final end result which is a beautiful roof that has transformed our house and that will last until long after we are dead!! I would never hire any other company for any other roof-related work (although now that they are done, I am confident we will never need to hire a roofer ever again). I've already recommended them to everyone I know. I wish I could have given all the guys on the roofing crew a thousand dollars each; if I had that money I honestly would have done it. THANK YOU RYAN AND BRUCE!!!

Although we ran into a few design/engineering issues during the process, we were able to work them out for a satisfactory outcome. I found the crew easy to work with. They were very careful around my wife's flowers, which is greatly appreciated. Jancewicz and Son is a much more professional contractor then others we have dealt with in the last few years. I would not hesitate to hire them again.
