This is our favorite EV charging stop on the drive from the Bay Area to SoCal. The GM chargers here are reliable -- usually around 150 kW max before tapering -- and everything around the station is well‑kept. The windshield washer buckets are always full with plenty of soap, and the big trash cans make it easy to clean out the car. Inside, this Flying J has pretty much everything: Taco Bell, Cinnabon, sandwiches, tons of drinks, a lounge area, showers, and clean bathrooms. Super convenient for a quick break. There's also a Jack in the Box next door, and local vendors often sell tacos, honey, and veggies nearby. My experience at The Flying J was okay. I was a bit bummed at how packed it got, they definitely need more restrooms because waiting in line when you really have to go is no fun. Don't, I repeat, don't come here during a busy holiday; everything will be crowded, and you might end up in an uncomfortable situation while waiting for a restroom. Showers are $15 best price if your traveling other places for travel centers are $20 plus so definitely go to pilot however I was in shower for 30 min and already had employee knocking on door to rush me out when they weren't even busy and there was no line for showers so I am disappointed with this as i was even told there is no certain time limit for one and two I know for a fact most people traveling take longer then and hour in their showers especially when paying $15 for a shower plus it's a full room so of course I'm going to take my time with the bathroom shower and doing my hair obviously so please realize that they may knock or even rush you but definitely give them a go as they are the best price and even though rushed the cleanest showers as well and the best options throughout the store read more

Regular stop for us while bumping up and down the 99. Super convenient, lots of parking, lots of pumps, and usually a good price for them. Bathrooms inside are relatively clean. Wish they had something more than just a Taco Bell, and their ready made foods sometimes look questionable, but it's what you would expect. We usually make a pit stop closer to the grapevine, but ended up taking the next exit while in Bakersfield to the Flying J Travel Center. The center was large & filled with shelves that's loaded with random snacks, coffee station, soda fountain, & other odds & ends that is common to convenience shops. Though I didn't need assistance, staff was helpful & friendly from what I heard & observed. The restrooms are located far right in the back -- clean & well-stocked. This facility even comes with showers! It looked newer than other convenience stores/rest stops; other reviewers noted they remodeled about a year ago & it shows in the upkeep. Place is disgusting, food is old gross and stale. Do not buy any of the food here. I had a salad and the tomato's were all bad. On top of everything I ordered it online and it's like the dude picked the worst piece of pizza. If you're a trucker and need to park do so just know that shower you pay for will be lukewarm at best. The grand reopening and ribbon cutting took place 8/12. They have redone the inside, adding more PJFresh hot and cold items, brewed coffee plus 'grind on demand' coffee machines, a Taco Bell replaced the coffee shop and a stand alone Cinnabon kiosk. Didn't check the showers, truckers lounge part. Appreciate they have fresh fruit available, cut fruit and salad kits in the chilled case and ready to eat finger on ice. Man cannot live on PJ Fresh pizza alone....or , at least, he shouldn't all the time. Appreciate helping road warriors eat a little better. Have stopped here twice on the way into Bakersfield to visit family and/or beyond to further adventures and even though it's a popular a large gas station/travel center with various chain mini food court fast food inside, they offer a variety of your typical grab and go beverages and snacks as well as some quality canned good and other savory things. Always clean both inside and out as well as clear for you destination takeoff. read more

The employees are very nice. They always have a smile and they are just generally very nice to see in the morning. They also have a good variety of snacks and drinks PLUS there is a Taco Bell and a Cinnabon inside. However, when my fiance and I were going to shower, the shower water was very slimy/sticky. At first I thought it was my lotion but, he felt it too. The next morning when I went to brush my teeth, it reeked of vomit/decay? Had me wanting to vomit! 7/10. Got delicious cinnamon rolls at the front for me and my crew on our travels! Fresh out of the oven, these rolls come glazed with sugar and are absolutely delicious. You can't miss their setup because they have the booth, front and center when you walk in. The aroma envelops the building making it impossible not to try! As soon as you walk into the door, you smell cinnamon buns from the Cinnabon store staring you directly in the face. But don't be distracted yet! You stopped here cause you had to use the restroom right?! As you are smelling, keep going to the left and you will find the restrooms. They are directly across from the Taco Bell inside this place. Looks like the place was remodeled cause everything looks well maintained and clean. Plenty of folks to ask for help if needed. Food, snacks and drinks were plentiful. You got to try the Chicken Pot Pie soup. It was delicious. I saw that there were showers and facilities for truckers. read more

I love stopping here for gas since they have everything. However, be CAREFUL when you're paying at the pump! I had used my card at the pump last Friday 08/04/23 and today 8/8/23 I had a charge from a Texaco for $60.40 and $750 charged in northern Cal Vallejo. Unfortunately the charges did go through and now I am working on the dispute. Too many people are skimming these machines and you just never know. Card used, wasn't use for anything else but gas. Now about the show, damn smh, why do they have the toilet paper dispensers I damn close to the toilet? Like I had no room, I had to take a shit setting on the toilet sideways smh, all the fans are dirty, the sink head be moving and the shower heads need some CLR for real!! Be very careful here, atleast when purchasing inside the store. On my way to Southern California I stopped here for gas and some snacks from inside. I payed at the pump and followed it by going inside for some chips and drinks. When I went to pay I saw the cashier hitting The green okay button on the card reader pin pad and sign off for the customer before me As he had walked away. I went to pay for my stuff and everything went as normal. As I left to finish my gas. I got an alert from my credit card for about $150 asking if this was me. I said no. but the card did go through for this charge. After conducting and investigating myself, I saw that my card was swiped twice, the first time it was declined for $150 but the second time it did go through. I don't know what kind of fraud is going on here but avoid this place if you have to. I should have waited the extra 10-20 minutes to get into Bakersfield. But even then that's sketchy on it own. Ask for your reciept, don't forget to finish off the entire transaction. read more

This review is specifically for the Taco Bell inside (at 10:05pm). Walk up and there are 4-5 employees behind the counter milling about. Nobody making eye contact with us. Then I hear a lady lean over and ask someone out of view if they were open or closed. What? So they then turn off the lights and tell us they're closed for "two hours." Wtf? We stopped just to pee but the pizza inside looked too good to pass up so we bought 4 slices of pizza. It was damn good pizza for a truck stop. This is a creepy travel stop but only at night. However it's the only stop on a long stretch of road before you hit the Grapevine. If you're here at night, I would avoid the Flying J and stop at the Jack in the Box. It's better lit and closer to the road. During the day, the Flying J isn't bad. I love stopping at the Flying J. They always have so much to offer. Something for everyone. Restrooms are usually always clean. The only thing that I hate that changed about all of them is , putting a Denny's in as their restaurant. The other restaurants were more of a truck stop style of food. Big and filling. I one ordered Chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns. The eggs and hash browns came on one plate and the chicken fried steak came on another because it was that big. Now with Denny's, it all fits on one plate. Small portions. I wish they would change back to a truck stop diner. read more

The price is decent. They are rather busy. The customer service leaves something to be desired. I do think this may become my go to stop when driving to southern California. This has always been a stop of mine anytime driving up north from Southern California, and driving back. It's a perfect chance to stretch the legs, get some gas at a good price, and get back on the road, as there isn't much after this point, unless you want to get off and drive through Bakersfield (when heading south). The facilities are clean (a lot of renovations have taken place here in the last few years), and the prices are good on drinks, snacks, etc. The staff is always pretty chipper, and you are always greeted with a smile. They now have a 24-hour Subway here, which makes it an even better stop to grab a quick sandwich for the road. read more

I'm very impressed with the management here. Unlike most Flying J's the manager actually cares about the employees and appearance of the parking lot, restrooms, and showers. There are enough people working to get the job done quickly. I have seen the store manager on more than one occasion picking up trash around the property and sweeping the parking lot, checking the restrooms, and giving various employees a lunch break , by working in their place, not just sending them and walking away. There isn't a lot of trash blowing around the lot, there are more than enough trash cans at more than enough locations in the parking lot, they are tied down so they don't blow away, and they are never overflowing often. There is also plenty of parking and a guy who sells fruits and nuts out front in the street. Other flying j's should learn from this example of how it "should be". read more

Usually love Pilot Flying J but I stopped at this one the other day to cash an EFS check only to be approached by the most disgustingly rude manager Chris. My trucking company spends thousands of dollars a week at Pilot and this incompetent "manager" actually turned away business from us because he didn't want to deal with us. I went back in to ask his name and store number. He refused to look me in the eye and would not give me his store number. He kept trying to give me their telephone number. He then said "what do you want?! We're the only Pilot in Bakersfield!" What a complete joke! I called Pilot Flying J headquarters and filed an official complaint and I honestly hope they do something about him.
