One of the better stops on the long boring drive to and from Chicago. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Staff is always nice and friendly. Lots of variety, maybe too much. I always spend way too much time in here trying to make up my mind what to buy. Buffett is a bit scary looking and reminds me of the scene in Vegas Vacation when Cousin Eddie says, "I'll take some of the yella"-- Shivers... Store has homemade candy and every other midwestern thing you can find with bears, ducks and deer on it. read more

This Flying J in Black River Walls, WI I'll never stop here again! I'm a truck driver and I reserved a parking spot so I'll have a place to park. Alexzander did not help me much if not at all on my parking issue. He told me to park in a handicap spot. I waited outside and another guy told me to park in the back. I told them both that there isn't a spot and I paid for a spot. So he goes inside and talked to the manager, comes out and said "my manager said it was okay and no one will wake you up for parking there" Telling a driver to park somewhere, where they shouldn't is wrong, stupid and above all piss poor laziness on their part. My old lady got a hold of the corporate and a report has been filed and I got my money back. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of change unless it's for the better. In this case, Flying J has improved. Well, maybe not completely. I don't like the new set up. It seems kind of sterile and generic. The old organization was welcoming. It had the feeling of a thrift store and a gas station. Now it comes off as any other freeway stop. What does stand out is that they have just about anything you could ask for and some of the cheapest gas off of 90/94. I'm in love with the locally made licorice in a variety of fruity flavors. We were also able to pick up an auxiliary cable for my iPod. Apparently my car will connect to an MP3 player (or laptop or phone or anything with a 3.5mm jack) directly and not just through my ghetto-rig FM transmitter. Who knew? Road trips just became at least 60% more enjoyable and hassle-free. Thanks FJ! Oh, and that creepy "The Cookery"... It's gone. Welcome Denny's! read more

The buffet here is average/acceptable. The service is good, the staff was nice and attentive. Gets the job done, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. read more

I don't care for the new setup that Flying J has. We were customers there even before they became a Flying J and at that time they were more family friendly. They had a welcoming to the mixture that made you feel "at home". Today I would have to agree with Erika A. Cheapest gas around, that's for sure, and it does help with today's high prices! BUT buyer beware ... DO NOT pay at the pumps!!!! That is unless you can spare the extra $76.00 they add on to your card on top of your regular purchase. It takes 2 to 3 days to go back into your account. They call it a "pre-authorization" today is day 5 and monies still are not put back! So if you can, always pay inside!!! At least inside they don't do the pre auth. Other than that we are satisfied with our service here. read more

Flying J put a 500.00 hold on our credit card for a 41.52 diesel fuel purchase. I just got off the phone with their corporate office. They claimed that this happens with all credit card purchases. This is untrue. I am from Canada, travel in the States for a living and this only happens at certain fuel stations. Never for this amount before. It can take anywhere from 1 to 4 days for this hold to be removed and they don't have to warn you. Be aware. Avoid purchasing diesel at Flying J if you cannot afford to have funds held for that length of time. read more

I stopped by Flying J in Black River Falls while traveling through Wisconsin. We always stop in Wisconsin and buy some Spotted Cow beer for my husband. After filling up with gas, I went in to make my beer purchase. The cashier told me I could not buy beer because I had my teenage daughter with me. I said "so no parent with their child can buy beer?" To which he replied, "I have no way of knowing that she won't be drinking it." Dear Nikkos, we went across the street and bought Spotted Cow for my husband. OK for a truck stop, skip the Denny's though if you want a decent sit down meal. Wait time for food was about 30 minutes with only about 15 customers total in the place at mid-day, and we didn't order anything out of the ordinary burger and fries stuff. Some of the food came out cold. Our waitress was good, but the hostess and another waiter seemed to be having a disagreement/argument in the dining room. Sure, that happens but nobody wants to see it. read more
