A quirky new convenience store in the Exchange that sells individually packaged toilet paper,…read morebutter, mayo, onions, potatoes, spam, candy/chocolate, bread...etc. The venue is a little sparse in items provided considering the amount of space available. But it's a neat concept for residents and workers in the area if they need to pick up an item or two. Sandwiches from Tallest Poppy are sold there, usually from mid-week on. The place has an old school candy store vibe with it's vintage counter and set up. Chat it up with Andrew - he is an interesting cat. Start a conversation with him about the store or anything else - I'll guarantee you'll be entertained. The prices are okay, I mean convenience stores in general aren't going to provide you the best price since they can't sell in volume to make up for lower prices compared to a Superstore. But they are there for your convenience so the markup is justifiable! 500 ml of sour cream was $2.29 and a brick of butter was $5.99 and a small bottle of canola oil sold for about $5.99. I think everyone needs to support places like this in our downtown to encourage more small businesses to open up in that area. So buy something next time you're there! We bought an ice-cream cone there. The price was $2.99 and the cashier charged us $4.15. After we…read moresaid the price was $2.99, he said that it's the price before tax. He also said that because we paid with debit card, there's 25 cents fee. The tax in Manitoba is 5%+7%=12%. So $3*12%=36 cents. And then plus 25 cents is $3.60. So even if we should be charged 25cents using debit card, this was unfair, because we were charged $4.15. Moreover, the receipt he gave up didn't have the name of the item we bought, neither it has the information about tax. We felt that they deliberately doing this so we could breakdown the total price and argue with them. We will never purchase there again.

This has been a longstanding problem for at least several months or longer, and the owner seems to have no interest in rectifying this problem. The cashiers also do not readily offer to give you a receipt for your purchases, so you cannot scrutinize the breakdown of the final tally. What has prompted me to write this review, was that I happened to purchase a 90-gram crispy treat two days ago for $1.99 and when I took it home and bit into it, it had a foul taste and was clearly stale. I looked closely at the package and saw that it had an expiry date of "205.15" (May 20, 2015). This was on August 5, 2016. I returned to the store two days later with about 95% of the treat still intact in its packaging and explained my concern to the cashier working at the time. He called the owner and then after a call of several minutes, refused to give me a refund or a credit for another purchase. The cashier said the number on the package was not the expiry date but the date that the product was made. I pointed out that in that case this kind of product would not stay good for over a year, but he still refused to give me a refund. There are two concerns here: the possibility of expired food products in this store as well as extremely poor customer service. I have shopped at this store many times in the past but I will do so no longer.

After I had dined at Hometown Grill, I was curious about Heritage Market and decided to check it out. I was pleasantly surprised that the woman who had made my pork schnitzel at the former eatery came over to help me at this store. When I first walked in, it looked like a convenience store with snacks. As I walked to the back, it had a deli and baked goods. The woman helped me out with cookies. There were six in each bundle. I had a difficult time deciding if I wanted the chocolate chip or white chocolate macadamia. I went with the latter. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked this woman again for her good food. She said that it was raining. It was pouring as I walked over to my vehicle. There is lots of parking in this lot. A couple of cars were parked for Hometown Grill when I left. However, while I was dining in, I did see a car pick up food from Heritage Market. I loved the white chocolate macadamia cookies. They had a ton of ingredients and weren't all that sweet. I'd like to go back and get the chocolate chip ones. Hopefully, I can avoid the downpour! (227)

The Exchange is nearby, across from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, which is next door to security. The Exchange is named after the Exchange District in Winnipeg. This area was originally modelled after Chicago. It is also a national historic site, and comprises the Planetarium and Manitoba Museum, among some of the attractions for both locals and tourists. I headed over to the cold drink fridge. I went with Pure Leaf lemon. There was a zero-sugar version that was new to me. I had to get it. I waited in line for pay. The woman ahead of me took her sweet time putting her purchases away before moving on. My flight was delayed, so I was okay with killing some time. The woman who cashed me out was great. I paid with my credit card. I tapped and was done. I wished her a great day and left. I love Pure Leaf. It's nice that the lemon version has no sugar in it. It was cold and yummy as lemon iced tea. I'm glad that I stopped by to get my tea fix. (234)
